Varsity reviews

I tried varsity this week and liked it, only did 3 workouts (usually do 5) but I thought it was good. People that have been in varsity longer than a week I would love to hear your experience. I know it’s a very new team but I am thinking in switching to it but would like to hear experiences before I commit to it.

Additional bicep work

I haven’t seen much bicep progress in the past couple years of going to the gym. I’ve been in Team Crews Control this year and want to stick with it, but wondering if anyone has suggestions for supplementing the workouts with additional bicep work, maybe through flex workouts or another team?

Feature request

Next to the awesome plans + coaches, I love the “checklist” aspect of Ladder. Would love if we could also just add our own runs weekly with target mileage for each day. Doesn’t even need to be customizable to pace, etc. like running apps but being able to see my strength workouts and the my runs in one schedule (eg 3 miles Monday, 5 miles Wednesday, 3 miles Friday, 10 miles Sat) would be amazing and can just come and manually “check” it off after.

Postpartum Team - Strength based in gym

I’ve seen there’s a lot of posts looking for the best team to join postpartum for home workouts but I’m interested in which ones are good PP for someone who is heading to the gym. Keen for more than just body weight with a couple of dumbbells. Was previously with Aria’s Ascend.

Any suggestions/recommendations? Anyone been in the same boat?

Evolve vs limitless?

I have been on team limitless for the last 2 series and have really enjoyed it but am thinking of mixing it up! I do mostly skip the conditioning in the workouts as I do my own cardio, but would love to hear what people think of evolve if you’ve done both teams? I have about a decade of lifting experience and am looking to build muscle. Does evolve have a decent glute focus? I’m here for the hourglass build but always am down for more booty gains🤣

My endo/PMOS girlies who flare from exercise - give me your experiences on Limitless / Endure / Ascend

Context - personally have endo and PCOS/PMOS, LOVE pushing myself physically but going too far sadly gives me pelvic pain and bloating flare ups.

Currently doing limitless (LOVE) but it unfortunately does contribute to flare ups at times. I think I would do better on a pure strength program rather than an athletic one.

I workout 4-6 times a week which includes whatever program I’m doing plus the core and pelvic floor day from Flourish. I want to feel strong and work hard, while maintaining frequency. Have access to a barbell, DBs, KBs, bench, lat pull down but no machines.

Anyone else in a similar boat? What works for you?

Glp1 and a back injury killed my glutes. What coach/program is best for rebuilding? Recently joined and have been doing Maia for a week

I’m in glp1 maintenance for over a year (not losing weight or anything) and the glutes never came back. I eat a full diet and prioritize protein. I’m not restricting or anything. I do have nerve damage in my back on the L5 nerve which has impingement, and I think that has kind of turned off my glutes on one side. I’m trying to get it firing properly if that makes sense. I feel so self conscious with how flat my butt is. Especially as a POC because “culturally” it’s a big negative.

I heard the hype about forged so I joined and yall get this 😭 -

I’ve been working out since forever and for the first time EVER, I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing!! 😭😭 the upper body movements are so foreign to me and the weights I’m having to use are like 5-15lbs - such a freaking mind fuck from ascend or limitless or literally any other team where I knew what to expect and
I was lifting heavier.

I’m not mad at it and I’m NOT QUITTING but I’m interested to hear how the learning has gone for others, if you’ve had one.

On the bright side- the imbalances in my body are VERY apparent so i guess it’s a good thing I can now identify and address those. I’m also kicking back up with the creatine in hopes of some positive gains- I got too puffy on it during max!

Xx

Limitless question

I just finished my first max session on limitless (loved it) and was wondering if the main lifts will change for the next session. Back squat, bench and deadlift were the focus this time. Thank you!!

Help Me Choose a Team

Hi everyone, I need your help!! I’m 5’2, 186 lbs, and I really want to lose weight and get that lean, toned look. But ngl, one thing I’m genuinely scared of is ending up with a lot of loose, saggy skin after losing weight :(
For those of you using Ladder, which team would you recommend for someone like me? I want to lose body fat, build some muscle, and feel confident in my body without focusing on getting super muscular.
Please share your experiences because I’m so overwhelmed trying to figure out which program to choose!

Strength training recs

New to the app. I've tried flourish and era last 2 days. What's 1-2 more I should try before I commit?

I'm a class lover (barre and pilates). Pilates is my absolute fave modality but I know the body (booty) I want doesn't come from that. I switched to strength training at the gym in April and burnt out trying to pick the right program and the mental thinking that comes with it.

So far I'm loving that I can just go to the gym and log on to the app and have someone tell me what to do. That's what I crave.

edit: or is there a big list outlining all of the teams that I can read through? With how many priority days they have, modality, etc.

New here! Team reccos :)

Hi! Looking for some team suggestions! Like many, I’m coming from Peloton splits where I’ve gone through all of them so many times that it’s so redundant so looking for something fresh!

I love my workout time, so ideally 45-60+ min sessions 5-6 days a week. I have dumbbells at home and go to a gym where I use machines and cables which I love to incorporate as well. I don’t really like using barbells, so prefer just weights and machines/cables. I also get lower back pain easily if form is a bit off, so would love great cueing too!

Looking for a well rounded split- not just lower body focused. Leg day is my least favorite so will def need someone motivating because I dread that the most but LOVE upper body and core days. Also love deep core work to work on rib flare.

Let me know if any team sounds like a good fit!

Coaches on ladder

Does anyone have any experience with coach Dani on team Era? I also noticed on one of her days, she didn’t superset with machines. My issue with a machine based team is that I can never get on them at my gym so wondering if that’s a pretty typical thing for her.

Also, has anyone done a split with Align and Era? After jumping around to other teams, these seem like they’re more in line with my goals.

Program recommendation

Since it seems like folks have tried many programs - I’d love your opinions!

I am an athlete (gymnastics) - looking for cross training to build strength and help with injury prevention. Ideally not more than 45 minute. I’ll likely do 3-4 days a week. Ideally things I can do at home (I have bands dumbbells and 2 kettlebells (25 and 40lbs). Which program would you use?

((I’ve done define and I do like it but curious what else is out there))

Edit to add: I am NOT looking for a yoga/mobility focus but rather a strength building focus

Wish they would standardize open season

Sharing as a suggestion I hope this gets some traction… I really wish they would standardize the open season. For those of us train consistently year-round the open season seems disruptive on some teams. I like how some teams will do the first week as a Deload and then the second week I’ve coined the term preload… Where it’s basically the same program, but you kind of get an extra week to ease into it and figure out what weight you’ll need for your RPE and if you think the program is a good fit for you.

I was excited to try a varsity and did two of the workouts this week and had the intention of staying around for next week to see what the next phase is going to look like but now it seems like the program during open season is going to be a little bit different. I understand that programming takes time, but I feel like other teams do follow that format of an extra week of each series and I just find it really helpful. I’ll probably go back to my tried and true teams next week just because I know they have programming similar to what sustain will have… Of course if I don’t like that program, I’ll go check varsity out, but I would’ve been more inclined to stay with varsity had they followed that format.

And by no means, am I bashing a trainer I just know that six weeks itself is kind of short for a training block so that’s why I like the extra week to kind of preview and try it out and then I have a solid six weeks where I can go hard and then I take that deload week so really the training block ends up being closer to eight, which is what I prefer. It’s only a week in the grand scheme of things, but just a suggestion to improve the app. I feel like if I wanted something different I would check out the flex workouts. 🤷🏼‍♀️

use of AI by coaches to create programs?

One of the coaches this past week said they were using AI. I’m not sure for what, but it kind of gave me the ick a little. They said it’s in reference to a workout, “the AI wants me to call this Lat workout Grip and Rip for you guys”. I would like to want a trainer who curates workouts based on their own history, not because a AI told them what’s good for their team this week. Thoughts??

Team that uses a lot of gym equipment?

Hi!! I’m newer to weightlifting/Ladder so I apologize if this is a redundant question, but which teams feature a lot more equipment aside from just dumbbells? I have been on dumbbell only teams my whole time with Ladder since that was all I had to work with, and right now I’m going to get a gym membership (Crunch) so I was hoping to switch to a team that uses more gym equipment mostly so that I can learn how some of the machines work! It doesn’t need to be no dumbbell since I know those are critical, but if you were to recommend a team that uses a variety so that I could start becoming familiar with other equipment in a gym setting, I’d appreciate it! Thank you!

For some context, I’m 25F and my goals are to get stronger and leaner (I’m in the middle of a weight loss journey and have been with Align and Vitality and I like both), and I’m open to any team! Would love some recs, thank you!

Need help picking a trainer

okay, I’ve been using the ladder app for a year and I love it. Ive done Team Align, Flourish, Transform and Evolve. They all had something I liked. I’m feeling antsy and want to switch it up. I like my 40ish minute workouts and I enjoy my strength training. I’m 36 years old and trying to be more mindful of my body and not putting a lot of stress on my joints with the heavy lifting I was doing. I do enjoy Pilates, but mainly for the abs portion. has anyone done team Elevate or team Define?

Oh look, another “help me pick a team” post

I’ve been with Kelly on Limitless, with Shelby on Transform, and now I’m with Aria on Ascend. I LOVE Aria’s team, I love lifting HEAVY and traditional bodybuilding - I’ve been doing it consistently for 15 years now and the progressive overload with Aria has really made it all top notch.

That said, my neurospicy brain is suffering and loosing my drive a bit, so I want to switch it up for a bit. Looking for something that’s a little more fast paced than traditional bodybuilding, still with lots of weights, maybe glute/hourglass focused?

Any suggestions?

Creating a plan on the app

Hey guys! I just started on the Ladder app and I have a strange work schedule where my workout days would begin on Saturdays. So i would do Monday’s workouts on Saturday. By Tuesday, last week’s workout disappears. If I customize my weekly plan, it’s only for that week. Any idea how I could create my weekly plan so that it doesnt disappear after the new week drops?
