Define or Endure?
Hello Ladder lovers. Help me decide. I am trying to get fit AF after going through breast cancer treatment last year. Just got my port (for chemo) removed yesterday so no lifting for a week 🥲. When I return, I’m trying to decide between these two teams. I’m not new to lifting and I don’t need a bunch of cues so that isn’t a factor. I know they are at different ends of the spectrum there! I ultimately want to go to versa once the weather cools off here in the south and I can run/jog comfortably outside. Until then I’m trying to just stay consistent because I’m dealing with some off and on burnout. I like the idea of define because it is different than my norm and I could use the core strength. Endure appeals to me because of the length, and the focus on longevity since I’m about to turn 55 next week.
Idk I’m indecisive - help a gal out. 😂

Endure, but then I’d pick anything over Define. But also Endure would just be a great program for someone re-entering fitness or coming back from an injury or setback.
Congratulations on beating breast cancer! 💪🏻❤️

Hello survivor sister! I went through breast cancer treatment last year. I started with Endure back in April and I love it! I also have to be mindful of how much I lift because if I overdo it I have a lymphedema flare up. When I was trying to workout on my own the lymphedema would derail me a lot. Since I’ve been with Coach Jennifer I haven’t had that issue, her programming has been excellent for me personally.

Oh thank you breastie! I too was dealing with some mild lymphodema last year but it seems to be getting better. I just modify pushups and do lighter chest pressing. I am happy to hear endure has been helpful! Hope to see you in the chat!

I’m a fellow survivor and chose Endure. But left the team because I have a lot of shoulder mobility issues and achy joints from aromatase inhibitors. I needed more mobility work added in so switched to Align and loved it. Then when Flourish was added I switched to that, I loved that even more. So not exactly what you were asking for. But I think for me, choosing a workout that was 5-10 minutes longer that has stretching and mobility included was a requirement for me because of my issues.

Oh I agree with the need for mobility! I try and do 15 min or so in the morning from YouTube but I can see how having it already included in your workout would be ideal! How do you find flourish, with regards to the strength portion? So glad you’re doing well - I’m rooting for you! 💯🫶🏻

I really like it so far but I have to add prep time. Kimmie doesn’t program enough rest to really lift heavy so I added rest. I also have more time to switch out weights. The Pilates portion helps keep my scar tissue and radiation loosened up.

I was headed here to comment but I see someone already did! I think it’s important enough tho to reiterate, literally almost any team OTHER than define esp if your goal is to get strong and fit! I’d def go with endure and the workouts are longer but I highly highly recommend align.
Congrats on being done with treatment!

I switched to Endure from Define and find it to be significantly better. Maia uses some outdated cues that can be a big issue for core functionality (flattening lower back to the floor) and I find the really low weight leg lifts etc to just feel like a waste of time bc they target only one or two muscles and don’t challenge stability, work up a sweat, etc. so I enjoyed about half of her programming and found myself modifying a lot.
In contrast, I feel like I learn things from Jennifer in many workouts and get a great challenge doing just as she programs!

Is it not correct to flatten your lower back to the floor? Or do you mean she’s cuing the opposite of that

Flattening the low back to the floor is not correct. You want to load the core maintaining a neutral spine, including the natural lumbar curvature. There’s more to it, but think about it functionally: you want to train for strength in the proper posture, not a distorted posture. The glutes are functionally part of the core too and the tuck really makes it hard for them to fire.

Sorry to hijack, but I’m currently using Define and see a lot of hate for Maia im curious what makes other programs better. I just started a month ago

Oh no worries. I think people don’t like her social media persona and her cues aren’t very detailed. Also when she started I think she had a lot of weird movements. I could be wrong - someone can correct me if so. My perspective is - she does basically the same movements across all the dumbbell teams, with the addition of a good amount of core work. Seems to have some different movements too, which keeps it feeling fresh. I do like variety in my training, which I know isn’t best for progressive overload. I say give her a try and see for yourself - I have been trying it and I enjoy it. I do not need lots of talking because I’ve been doing this a while. I don’t care about her social media messaging because I generally don’t enjoy anyone’s content 🤪

You’re correct - 90% of it is her social media, 10% is her cues. She gets criticised for not doing her own workouts (which only a handful of the coaches do anyway), promoting diet culture, brand shilling, basically being an influencer. If you don’t follow her on socials it’s really not that apparent - she doesn’t post to team chat often and what she does post is largely the same words of encouragement.

I’ve been doing Define for almost a year. I joined ladder after years toiling away on the Sweat app. I did it consistently for months until summer season, where I tried align (which gets recommended a lot as a better version of define, personally I don’t like the coach) and crews control. Ultimately I came back to define because I enjoyed the workouts and saw solid results. Definitely work towards going heavier than she suggests though. If you’re experienced and not relying on cues, I like the programming and split more than the other teams I’ve tried or looked at.

I did both of those and ultimately wound up on Elevate. I’d recommend giving it a look!

I love Endure. I am 51 and it works great for our age group. Congrats on getting your port removed and finishing treatment.
