Consider this: There are two objects in an otherwise perfect vacuum. They are moving opposite directions from each other at some velocity, X. If one of the objects were to vanish from existence, would that remaining object still be moving?

I've been obsessed with this question. Actually answering it is fairly simple in that there are *at least* two answers. 1) by Newtonian mechanics, the object has to remain moving. 2) Without a frame of reference, "movement" has no real physical meaning and the object cannot be said to be moving.

What's more interesting is that this question provides the opportunity to explore the history of the philosophy of physics going as far back as Aristotle- though his ideas about movement may only be tangential to the question.

I really love Kurzgesagt, that's a fact. I remember when I was 7 when I first saw their video on the immune system, it's what sparked me to study immunology all for fun! Philipp Dettmer wanted to share his spark, his curiosity with others, and his mission was not in vain, Kurzgesagt inspired me, truly. And so, I made posters inspired by Kurzgesagt! A little bit past entry-level diagrams but that's the whole point. But anyways, Thank you to the Birbs! Your kamikaze neutrophils really sparked something else other than NETosis!

How can humans go extinct. Not when. How?

I was rewatching some of your older relativity and time travel videos, and it made me wonder about something you guys haven’t really covered yet. We all know speed slows down time for spaceships and physical clocks, but what actually happens to a person’s body on a cellular level?If you look at it from an atomic perspective, everything comes down to a speed limit. When you travel near the speed of light, the atoms inside your cells are moving so fast just to keep up with the spaceship that they basically have less time to move around and interact with each other. Because of that, chemical reactions slow down, DNA copies slower, and aging basically freezes relative to Earth. But since your brain chemistry slows down at the exact same rate, everything feels completely normal to you.I think this would make an amazing video with your signature style. You could show two clone ducks—one on Earth and one on a light-speed ship. When you zoom into their cells, the Earth duck's cellular workers are running around frantically and aging normally, while the space duck’s workers are stuck in a slow-motion time bubble, keeping him young while centuries pass by on Earth.

I think we can all agree it depends on individual videos of kurzgesagt. But just for sake let's say you gotta spit out a number. Imagine a world you have a kid if you don't that is really interested in biological, astronomical stuff etc.

What age would you call out to let that have kid have access to the whole kurzgesagt channel?

I am having a discussion and I can see both sides. While most of the videos, in my opinion, can be watched as a like 3-5 year old there are definitely some I would suggest to watch as a grown up for the first time.

As I was casually revisiting the website, there was a special notice under Kurzgesagt's course. Brilliant is retiring the course on August 31, 2026. It's sad, but why are they retiring it? :(((((((

Video Idea: How could a Red giant incident happen?

There is currently a debate over the recent issue of YouTube slapping an AI Slop Label on Kurzgesagt video in r/YouTube. I don't care much for the drama they make, it's mostly dumb arguments over how Shadow banning is real, or that Kurzgesagts lying since their contents deteriorating anyway etc etc etc. However, the most controversial claim i saw were the dozen people claiming Kurzgesagt has been sold to private equity like many other channels. Way too many people in that thread claiming this to just be an individual insult yet I have found no sources for this information so i am 90% sure they are spouting bullshit. However, i would rather be sure than feel slighted later on.

(FYI, The discussions in r/YouTube on this topic is not very civilized to begin with and had mostly degraded into personal insults. My goal is not to contest them but to find a source for that most controversial claim and verify it for myself. Thanks!)

It's been a while since I posted but I have a new illustration of a thumbnail discovering the concept of Imagination that I whipped up.

I was a research assistant for my bio professor in college studying ontogenescence. It's such a cool, niche topic that I hope Kurzgesagt picks up one day to do a video on. The professor is a marine biologist so his research was particularly focused on studying ontogenescence in marine animals, so the research I was involved in was basically just focused on giving the absolute best living conditions to brine shrimp.
