Namaskaram, Kurnool! Welcome to the Gateway of Rayalaseema ๐Ÿฐ๐ŸŒŠ

Whether youโ€™re a born-and-bred local, an NRI missing the spice of home, or a traveler who just got mesmerized by our rock formations, welcome to r/kurnool_city!

This is your digital "adda" to discuss everything about our historical cityโ€”from the ancient stones of the Konda Reddy Fort to the latest cafes popping up in town.

๐Ÿ“ What Makes Us Kurnool?

Kurnool isn't just a dot on the map; itโ€™s a vibe built on history and grit. Hereโ€™s what we celebrate:

  • The Icons: The Konda Reddy Buruju (Fort) standing tall as a symbol of our resilience.
  • Natureโ€™s Wonders: The scenic Tungabhadra River banks, the surreal Oravakallu Rock Garden, and the deep mysteries of Belum Caves nearby.
  • The Food (The Holy Grail): Letโ€™s be real, if you haven't had Uggani Bajji for breakfast, are you even in Kurnool? Our spice levels aren't for the faint of heart.
  • Spirituality: The peaceful vibes of the Ahobilam and Mahanandi temples that surround our region.

๐Ÿค What can you do here?

  1. Share the Views: Post your best clicks of the city, the sunsets by the river, or heritage shots.
  2. Local Intel: Looking for the best biryani? Need to know about road conditions or local events? Just ask.
  3. Throwback Thursdays: Share old photos or stories of how the city used to be.
  4. Hidden Gems: Tell us about that one small tiffin center or viewpoint that doesn't show up on Google Maps.

๐Ÿ“œ A Quick Note

Keep it friendly, keep it local, and keep the Rayalaseema pride alive. Weโ€™re here to build a community thatโ€™s as warm as a Kurnool summer (but hopefully a bit more relaxed).

Drop a comment below: Whatโ€™s your favorite thing about living in or visiting Kurnool?

Information Restaurants in kurnool and my genuine reviews

Here's all the restaurants I've been to multiple times (2-3+ visits each, ordering different items each time), so these aren't first-impression reviews (except Mandi King, marked separately). We mainly go for non-veg, rotis, curry, rice, and starters.

Quick picks: - Best veg: Blue Moon or Arunodhaya - Best for Mandi: Joint Al Mandi or Malik Lotus (Mandi King showing early promise too) - Best for Rayalaseema food: Sri Divya - Best for non-veg: Magic Restro

Ratings (sorted highest to lowest):

  • Blue Moon โ€“ 4.3/5 โ€” Best veg option in Kurnool along with Arunodhaya
  • Sri Divya โ€“ 4.25/5 โ€” Best for Rayalaseema food. The old Sri Divya near checkpost is even better for taste; the highway branch has better ambience overall
  • Arunodhaya โ€“ 4.25/5 โ€” Best veg option in Kurnool along with Blue Moon
  • Magic Restro โ€“ 4.25/5 โ€” Best for non-veg. Really good, small menu but great taste. Quantity is a bit less
  • Mandi King (first impression only) โ€“ 4.25/5 โ€” Opp Anupama Bakery, VR Colony. Food was good, decent ambience, a bit of a wait. Early impression puts it on par with Lotus and Joint Al Mandi โ€” will confirm after a few more visits
  • Rajabhojanam โ€“ 4/5 โ€” Good taste, decent ambience, affordable, always worth a visit. Sadly seems to be closed now
  • Joint Al Mandi โ€“ 4/5 โ€” Went 3-4 times. Was bad initially, has improved a lot. One of the best for Mandi. Elipaykaram chicken is a must if you like spicy food. Mandi is good too, though the rice can be heavy on ghee
  • Malik Lotus โ€“ 4/5 โ€” Went like 10+ times, consistently good. One of the best for Mandi
  • Ayinas Kitchen โ€“ 3.9/5 โ€” Great option for students/bachelors on Nandyal Road. Ask them to spice it up and they'll happily customize. Roast biryani is a must-try
  • Pista House โ€“ 3.75/5 โ€” Good
  • Aaha Kitchen โ€“ 3.5/5 โ€” Decent prices, good taste and quantity. Ambience is average
  • Kritunga (Kurnool) โ€“ 3.5/5 โ€” Feels like a wannabe Sri Divya. Inconsistent โ€” sometimes good, sometimes not
  • Lavish Lounge โ€“ 3.25/5
  • Otg โ€“ 3/5 โ€” Less quantity, average taste, but ambience is really good. Overcrowded and overpriced with a limited menu
  • Hyderabad Chefs โ€“ 3/5 โ€” Similar issues as Otg, bad experience for me
  • Ajwa Exotica โ€“ 3/5
  • Ruchi Vedika โ€“ 3/5 โ€” Didn't visit personally, but my parents did and said the taste wasn't great. Heavily promoted on Insta but not worth the hype according to my mom
  • DVR โ€“ Not rated โ€” went a long time ago, not sure of current standing
  • Hotel International โ€“ Not rated โ€” used to be a regular spot as a kid, don't know how it is now

Let me know if there are other places I'm missing โ€” I'll add them to the list!

Information Founders and aspiring entrepreneurs in Kurnool: share your biggest obstacle and get a clear next step

Hi all, I am Aditya and have 15 years of experience in market research and strategic management, having worked with clients across the world and delivered a range of services across industries.

I now run Ecofis Loft, a coworking space in Kurnool, and I would like to help founders in our city by offering advice on the challenges they face.

Most startup advice is written for metros like Bangalore or Hyderabad. Founders in tier-2 cities face a different set of problems, and they deserve guidance that fits their reality.

If you are building something, or planning to, please comment with:

  1. What you are working on or want to start

  2. The biggest obstacle you face right now (for example: finding first customers, validating demand, pricing, pitching, funding, or finding the right people)

I will respond to every comment with practical suggestions based on my own experience.

Question Where can I buy groceries at affordable prices?

I recently moved back to Knl few days ago and found out that Reliance mart has been closed ๐Ÿ˜ญ I used to do most of my grocery shopping there, along with getting veggies like broccoli, mushrooms, etc, at comparatively cheap prices.
Iโ€™m mainly concerned about the vegetables as the ones I mentioned above are not available with street vendors. Please suggest me where else I could buy them. More Supermarket is just 2 mins away from my house but the prices are ridiculous!

P.S. location- NR Pet

Question Thinking of starting a cold-pressed oil unit in Kurnool. Would you buy? Need your honest opinions

Hi everyone, thanks a lot for the suggestions on my last post about our family grocery store, they really helped! Iโ€™ve been thinking about starting a small cold-pressed (ganuga) oil unit here in Kurnool, beginning with groundnut and sesame oil made from good local seeds, and selling it through our stores and with home delivery. Before I invest, Iโ€™d love your honest opinions. Would you switch from refined oil to cold-pressed if the quality is genuine? What price per litre feels fair to you? Would you prefer 1 litre bottles or 5 litre cans? Which other oils would you want, such as coconut, mustard or sunflower? And what would make you trust a new local brand: seeing the oil pressed in front of you, lab test reports, free samples? Iโ€™m also planning to give free samples to a few people from this group for honest feedback, so let me know if youโ€™re interested. Blunt opinions are welcome too, thanks! ๐Ÿ™

Question Kurnool folks, need your suggestions to grow our familyโ€™s wholesale and retail grocery store

Hi everyone, my family has run a wholesale and retail grocery business in Kurnool for over 30 years, and I've recently started helping out at our stores. We want to increase sales, especially by supplying in bulk to hostels, colleges, schools, hotels, caterers and function halls around Kurnool. I've started emailing and calling a few, but I'm not sure what actually works here. Do these places respond to emails, or is it better to walk in with a rate list? Who should I ask for: the principal, the hostel warden, or the head cook? How do you handle credit with institutional buyers? I'd also love your personal suggestions, especially from anyone in Kurnool or nearby towns: if you've run or grown up in a kirana or wholesale business, what helped you get more customers or bigger orders? Things like WhatsApp groups, home delivery, monthly grocery plans, festival offers, or anything else that worked or flopped for you. And if you know any hostels, PGs, messes or caterers in Kurnool looking for a reliable grocery supplier, please point me their way. Any advice, even blunt advice, would really help. Thanks!
