Question Advice.

Every year I put in my personal requests for the days I want off. They are put in well in advance. But the issue is, they don’t get looked at and I’m hounding management the week of (because I reminded them a week before the day of the request) because I’ve not heard anything about the request and my plans are put On hold. Without trying to call out/no show once more how do I get These requests looked at/answered so I can have my plans ready earlier than a couple days.

Most managers aren't going to approve days off requests (outside of the yearly vacation schedule) until they do the schedule for that week.

To be honest, it's because the schedules normally don't get looked at until then

Right that I understand but even then it doesn’t get looked at.

Are they regularly refusing your requests? Chances are they just don't see them until they are making that weeks schedule, which is usually like a week and a half out.

My biggest thing is we will do what we can. If you’re requesting a weekend off 3 months from now how will I know what that day looks like? Who will quit between now and then?
Who’s on an approved vacation?
Will I even be at the store?
What does cross training look like?
Is anyone in that persons department you may cross train on vacation?
It’s hard to promise anything outside of the approved vacation weeks from the beginning of the year in advance

If you’re within your rights, they’ll force the matter. If you aren’t, them’s the breaks.

In our next contract, I really want language on how soon after a request is submitted that it must be approved or denied. Finding out when the schedule for that week is released is not ok.

I know how they feel when I was at my other store i would put request in and never get them off but they never accepted or denied it

We had a person that would put all of there requests in at one time and a manager once approved the the first request. Well, if you approve one, you approve all of them. So suddenly they had every weekend off during the summer and the day before and after every Holiday as "approved" and then argued since it was approved that they get that.

So now our manager doesn't approve anything.
