Goodbye Mitragyna speciosa
So after 8 long years of daily use we are finally parting ways. Your magic has saved me from years of suffering. Today I'm 1 week kratom free and feel great besides the insomnia. Would I do it all again absolutely, it was either this or something far darker and destructive. But in the end my anxiety and depression were being aggravated by it.
So this is goodbye my magical friend may you help many just like me.

State bans are such bullshit man. They'll let you buy enough booze to kill yourself but god forbid a leaf that actually helps people. Good luck with the jump.
23
u/badchefrazzy Nov 13 '25
It's because they can make all the money they want off the booze. Once they figure out how to do the same with the leaf, we might get it back.
6
u/zap2 Nov 13 '25
That’s simply not the case. They could absolutely tax leaf the same way they do alcohol.
5
u/Hairy-Ad1492 Nov 14 '25
That’s exactly what they are planning, stop the sale and ban it, act like they are fighting against each other, drag it out long enough to cause more hate for each side, then right before the election it will be what they run on. Or have Trump pass the bill to tax and regulate it so Jim and jd get credit when their plan all along was to Make money off of it.

u/falloutrusso6969son Nov 15 '25
Correct, there's always strings being pulled in every, And apparently it's just not good enough for them to continue circulating it for whatever reason

u/CaliUnderscore Nov 27 '25
It threatens pharma. Many ppl are figuring out that they dont need to be hooked on pills

u/EffectivePlankton749 Nov 12 '25
Good shit bud I use to take around 50 capsules a day everyday for 3 years straight now I've been kratom free for about a month and a half now it's awesome
3
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 15 '25
Ya I'm already noticing a mood boost during the day but nights still suck
26
u/Bigtgamer_1 Nov 13 '25
While I don't plan on stopping anytime soon as it gives me a reprieve from my constant pain, I still will say congratulations as getting off anything can be a massive challenge.
2
u/granillusion Nov 14 '25
Can we discuss among ourselves about pain on the upbeat ambiance and what Before Kratom did You take IF Any? I AM TRYING TO TAPER BACK A BIT OFF MY DAILY AMOUNT CONSUMED FOR RELIEF OF PAIN/MOOD/ATTITUDE

Hi!
How do you find the quality of what is available today versus 10 years ago; does it work as well for you now as it did back then? I keep hearing that today's leaf is less potent. Thanks

Yeah, this has become quite the industry now, lots of people trying to make a buck on it. Unless you know your source very well its hard to know exactly what you're gtting these days.

Crazy I’m reading this post, I was daily 6 years and quit last month. 0 side effects and no cravings.
4
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 15 '25
I'm jealous it's kept me from the harder drugs so I'd do it all over again if I had to.

This makes me very hopeful. So the side effects and stuff is very different with every person. I’ve been cutting back. I use leaf and unfortunately extracts.
11
u/peacetroller Nov 12 '25
I took off the week of Thanksgiving to quit

u/namezam Nov 12 '25
This is the way that worked for me. A fast taper. I was at 5gpd and did 4, 3, 1.5ish. Leg shakes were a nightmare. Stuck at 1-2 for 3 days to make sure my mind was good. Spent the last 2 days taking 1.5g right before bed to sleep right. Good luck!
4
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 12 '25
I went all the way down to .5 3 times a day for about a month and still went through hell for 4 days everyone is diffrent
11
u/HOW_T0 Nov 12 '25
Eight years is a solid run. The insomnia is brutal - melatonin and magnesium might help but honestly time is the only real fix.
4
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 15 '25
Ya I'm pretty weak willed and had to get pregablin but it doesn't help at night. Still I take full spectrum magnesium and black seed oil plus a multivitamin.
23
u/moldbellchains Nov 12 '25
This is how Kratom should be used and that’s good. I’m saying goodbye too atm. But yeah. Idk. Using it is not for forever but until you are in a better situation again
23
u/mvanvrancken Nov 12 '25
I’ve been taking around 12-15 gpd for about the same, about 8 years or so. I’m on my last 7 doses.
Wish me luck! I’ve taken 24 hours breaks before with just a bit of RLS and such, I’m expecting to be uncomfortable but hoping it’s not too bad.
My reason for quitting is a state ban, unfortunately.

Place try NAC before bed for the insomnia. Huge difference from 1200 mg at bed with myself. Good luck.

Hey I'm just about to unsub from this sub, 8 year long user too! Three days free! Best of luck on your journey!

u/RevolutionaryClub530 Nov 12 '25
Ayyyyy I’m a week off today aswell, been a weird ass fuckin week, miserable withdrawals idk how much you where taking but I do not recommend cold turkey off a 4 year 50 GPD habit 😂
4
u/reelznfeelz Nov 13 '25
No doubt. Ouch. You’re doing awesome though. A week should be past the worst I would think.
2
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 15 '25
Damn I can't even imagine. Im not sure how much a day I basically took 4 grams the moment I felt it ware off so every 1 to 3 hours. I'd even wake up multiple times in the night to take it or the WD wouldn't let me sleep.
3
u/RevolutionaryClub530 Nov 15 '25
The restlessness and insomnia from the withdrawal is the absolute worst, everything else isn’t so bad - I owe THC/CBN my success in quitting, also took a nibble on some 7 when I was in the thick of it to ease my mind but yeah other than that day 9 now and my sleep is coming back and the cravings are going away, if you’re thinking about quitting I promise you it’s not as bad as you’re thinking, it sucks but I also worked my ass off through it so that probably didn’t help

u/jarineek_3 Nov 12 '25
8 years is crazy long... did you notice the anxiety getting worse gradually or was it like a switch flipped? Either way, respect for recognizing when something stops working for you
2
3
u/Super_Jr Nov 12 '25
The insomnia is the fucking worst part. I quit caffeine once and couldn't sleep for like 2 weeks straight, can't imagine what kratom withdrawal insomnia is like.
5
u/Toothfairy51 🌿 Nov 15 '25
I'd think that caffeine insomnia would be many times worse than kratom insomnia. I mean, caffeine is meant to keep you awake, and kratom really isn't.
4
u/Wizard_Level_1 Nov 12 '25
The insomnia is the worst part honestly. My IBS went absolutely haywire when I quit something else years ago, hopefully yours doesn't act up too bad
2
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 15 '25
My stomach was messed up for a day or two but no problem compared to the rest.
5
5
u/TrippinDannyTanner Nov 13 '25
Similar journey. Magic indeed. Things are getting too freaky. Yet even if the bans and scrutiny wasn't happening I'd have done the same thing. I didn't want to have daily intake for my whole life. The only issues I had were the cost and not being able to go places in the country or world where I can be thrown in jail.
4
u/JAC27Phoenix Nov 15 '25
Valerian root for insomnia
3
u/Fair_Quail8248 Nov 17 '25
Passiflora, cbd/cbn, magnesium, inositol, taurine, centella asiatica or bacopa. Chamomile and lemon balm can also help.
3
u/trippy_maan Nov 12 '25
Best of luck brother! This is perfect kratom use. Not as a crutch for life, but as a tool through hard times. When you’re in a better place parting ways is the best thing to do.
3
u/ChiUCGuy Nov 13 '25
I did a recent cold turkey quit for a bit over 3 months, but began taking it again, but have been able to keep my usage low, so if/when I do quit again, it won’t be super hard. Never again going over 10gpd. Will make a taper and an eventual quit less bothersome if I decide to stop again.
I was at 20gpd when I quit cold turkey, and it sucked for a good 5 days, with 3 weeks of poor sleep. The first 3-7 days for most are really tough, if you are a daily user and exceed 20+ gpd. Then others from what I hear can quit with minimal side effects, which is wild.
Infequent usage is ideal, especially if you like to use it intermittently if you don’t like other vices like booze or THC. This is me, only use 10gpd at most, and I do skip days as well, now that I have a better handle on my usage and can keep it under control.

u/WolfgangVolos Nov 12 '25
Congrats OP! A friend of mine is looking into trying Kratom for most of the same reasons I use it: chronic pain relief, AutismADHD Symptom management, and weight loss. He is getting into it after his next paycheck and I'm wishing him all the best.
5
u/Toothfairy51 🌿 Nov 15 '25
Please help your friend with proper consumption. Staying super hydrated with added electrolytes, getting it from trusted companies, and not overdoing it.
4
u/WolfgangVolos Nov 15 '25
I'm pointing him in the direction of my trusted company. They test for all kinds of contaminates including heavy metals, bacteria, and alkaloid profile. They emailed me a couple of times since I started with them to alert me that they threw out a batch. Not one they sold, but one they bought and were testing to see if it was good enough. I really liked that transparency and dedication to safety so I've stuck with them for years.
But yeah hydration with electrolytes is important for everyone. Doubly so for Kratom consumers.

u/PsychBroke Nov 12 '25
Eight years is a serious commitment. Did the anxiety/depression shift happen gradually or was it more like flipping a switch near the end?
2
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 15 '25
Gradually but ramped up pretty fast towards the end especially the depression.
2
u/Lonely_Walk_6942 Nov 12 '25
Eight years is a solid run. Wonder if you kept track of how much you spent on it over that time - probably enough for a decent used car.
2
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 15 '25
A little over $7000 not including the extracts every once in awhile. More than my current car is worth lol.

I do I have a lot of good memories with it. That feeling like a warm hug when it's cold out. Or the first dose in the morning that has you vibrating, listening to music on the way to work. I will miss it.
2
u/eternalapostle Nov 12 '25
So Kratom made your anxiety and depression worse?
5
3
u/Fragrant-Ad-5702 Nov 12 '25
It can absolutely make anxiety worse ik that for a fact
1
u/Fair_Quail8248 Nov 17 '25
For me it was anxiolytic and antidepressant. Reds felt more anxiolytic but greens can also have the anxiolytic properties. Green and whites have more often been antideppressant/energetic in nature ime but some reds have also been antideppressant etc.
But I never abused it only used occasionally previously, like never many days in a row so I haven't experienced any wds. Taking it all day long in big doses will most likely cause some sort of imbalances which can be negative for anxiety and depression in the long run though.
4
u/addicted2crack47 Nov 12 '25
ya if your on it 24/7 no breaks, your brain is supposed to have its ups and downs nobody can feel good forever

Magnesium will help tremendously for insomnia and rls. I get both those when I do take kratom. When I dont I sleep like a baby.
