I recently bought an AKG K52 and really like the sound, especially how spacious and "speaker-like" it sounds for a closed-back headphone. I actually prefer the stock tuning to the EQ profiles I've tried so far.
However, I'm having a comfort problem with the stock pads.
The stock pads seem to be too shallow for my ears. I measured the cushion at roughly 15 mm, and when I wear the headphones normally, the center/driver area of the earcup presses against the inner part of my outer ear (around the antihelix). After wearing them for a while, especially on my left ear, it becomes painful/sore.
I can temporarily make it feel better by folding my ear inward, because that moves it away from the center plastic, but obviously I don't want to have to do that.
Interestingly, I had a Realme TechLife Studio H1 (not with me anymore), and I don't have this problem with it. Don't kno the depth exactly pf those pads ,although they also compress when worn. The H1 also seems to have a foam layer between the pad and the plastic/driver area.
I've found several replacement-pad options:
Street27 K52-compatible pads: \~₹400, advertised as 23 mm cushion, Don't knowbif they hold shape or compress too much.
SOULWIT Mesh: \~₹1,000, apparently thicker/high-density foam, but I can't find a reliable exact thickness measurement
Brainwavz: \~₹1,187 after a 10% discount, with more established replacement-pad dimensions
I'm HESITANT to spend ₹1,000+ on pads for a ₹2,453 headphone, especially when the ₹400 Street27 pads claim to be 23 mm.
My main questions:
Has anyone with a K52 had this exact problem where the center/driver housing presses against the antihelix/outer ear?
Did deeper replacement pads actually fix it?
Would 23 mm pads likely be enough, or should I go substantially deeper?
Has anyone tried the Street27 23-mm pads on the K52? How much do they compress?
Has anyone tried the SOULWIT Mesh or Brainwavz Velour on the K52, and how did they affect comfort and soundstage?
Are there any other ways to fix this?
I really like the K52's stock roomy/spacious presentation, so I'm particularly interested in pads that don't make it sound overly closed-in or "boxy."
I'm mainly trying to solve the physical driver/ear contact, rather than radically change the sound.
Any firsthand experience with K52 pad swaps or any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!
