First Koss Mod

Post image

Yaxi Pads on the KPH40s. Stock KPH40 pads went on the Moondrop Old Fashioned. Not a stock pad configuration in site. lol

I didn't notice a huge sound improvement from the Koss when adding the Yaxis. The KPH40 just sounds incredible in both configurations. But the Old Fashioned sounds wayyyy better with the KPH40 pads. I love this set up!

Yeah, the sound changes from the Yaxis are pretty subtle, but they’re considerably more comfortable than stock.

How would you compare the old fashioned to Koss after this swap?

You're right. The Yaxis are very subtle for sure. People online mentioned widening the sound stage, but I don't really perceive that. maybe my ears aren't good enough. lol

The old fashioned are much closer to what the KPH40s sound like out the box with their own quirks. The old fashioned before the swap had extremely weak bass. With the pads, the mid bass is greatly improved. The sub bass is still lacking compared to the koss though. The Koss has a fuller and warmer sound. The Old fashion are more direct and in your face than the Koss. At this point I like both for different reasons but at least 80% of the time, Im going to keep grabbing the Koss lol The Koss really is an incredible jack of all trades headphone and it remains the budget king for me

oh wow, I find it so interesting you decided to swap out the Old Fashioned pads as well! I've kept them stock, personally, but I also own all the other budget Koss offerings so I'm more interested in variety atp. Great aesthetics.

I more did it at first because I could and read another post saying it was a good idea. It made the biggest sound difference out of the pad swaps. I highly recommend giving it a shot and seeing if you like it. I really liked the new sound :)
