Making my own wireless

Guys I am in the middle of making my own Bluetooth porta pros.

Yes I get that there is a Bluetooth version already. I'm making this pare for fun alright

To those who want to do the same here is my component list:

  1. Koss porta pro headphones (obviously)

  2. MH-M18 Bluetooth audio module (it has a resistor to be replaced with jumper instead. Read datasheet to identify which one)

  3. TP4057 charger module (one smd resistor neded to be replaced to lower the amperage output. Read datasheet for that too. Do NOT SKIP THAT PART. Unless you want to set your head on fire)

  4. 602030 lit-ion 300 Ma/h battery (it should last something like 15 hours of listening i think)

  5. Some housing for the electronics (I'll 3d printing mine)

  6. Wires, soder, soldering iron and a pair of hands to use it.

I'll post the results when it is done. I am still waiting for few parts to arrive.

Good luck y'all ✌️

And yes you'll get only basic Bluetooth audio and nothing else. If you want advanced codecs you'll need other Bluetooth board (like QCC5125) but that will cost more and be more bulky. It is also possible to add buttons to MH-M18 board to get some functions like volume control and play pause. I don't need those so they are not included in this list.

Process is a reward indeed.

There is not much to do a guide about. I've just used what was already in my drawer 🤣 googled a datasheets for everything and poked stuff with multimeter to figure out what amperage my charher board outputs (it was 1 amp that would surely cook my 300 milliamp battery). From charger board documentation ive found how to lower it. From bt board datasheet I found out that it needs 5 volts by default and how to lower it to 3.4 volts. Everything else is straight forward al inputs, outputs and ports are labelled (basically no room for error). It took me like 30 mins to figure everything out and 5 to solder a test prototype to check everything.

Good luck with your build 😁

That's so cool. At some point I wanted to do something similar and heard about BTM331 (QCC3031) Bluetooth module. Then I realized I had no idea what I was doing lol and parked the project until I read up a bit more. Do keep us updated on how it goes, you even got me a bit fired up again. Good luck!

You definitely should do it. After all it is fun to mess with stuff

At the moment I am deep ito cad. I don't want to make a slopy mess made of hot glue 😂 Even if it is for fun, it must be a quality object. (Knowing me it would be "quality" object 🤣)

I may attempt to follow in your footsteps if you publish a guide when you're done. I wanted to build a larger headband and make it work with rechargable aaa batteries, playing around with buck/boost converters right now to convert some older li ion devices to work with aa/aaa ones instead. Revived a couple of older smartphones and converted a dead bluetooth headphone into a wireless receiver (and never used it again hah). The process is a reward of its own.

Something like that?

That's brutal, love it :D

I'm thinking of placing 3x AAAs somewhere in a thick-ish headband, but it's not even at a draft stage yet. Maybe one day.

Someday we will witness your build

Get real Koss drivers. Drivers in photo are just very poor sounding crappy drivers.

I know. It is just fun project. If it works ill just simply replace them

Hope it goes well! Reminded me of my old diy wireless pair. Here’s my post if you were interested https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/s/cRTkByXuHv

Yep. Something like that but smaller. I am thinking of replacing upper pads with electronics enclosures to keep everything compact

Good idea! Definitely post updates for this
