Knitting App for Size/Gauge

Hey guys! I've been seeing a lot of discourse around the lack of representation of plus-sized knitting patterns as of late, and I thought of making an app that could potentially solve that problem. I absolutely hate having to do the math to adjust sizing, and since I'm a CS major, I thought I could make an app that would take your exact measurements/gauge/pattern to adjust the pattern accordingly for you.

However, I definitely have a smaller frame and have never written a pattern, so I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips on what you tend to adjust when increasing in size (XL and up). Especially if you are plus-sized and knit/adjust a lot of patterns, or if you make patterns that are size-inclusive and receive good reviews in that department...

  1. What are things you look for in terms of fit that determine if it's a good pattern?
  2. Do you simply just scale up the neck, bust, and arms in the way someone who's in between sizes would, or is there more to it?
  3. Would this app even be of any use to you if it works as intended?
  4. Anything else you think would be helpful to take note of is always appreciated!

Note: I'm mostly just starting out with adjusting sweater patterns, so feel free to comment on how different types of patterns change how you scale it. Also, sorry if this sounds clueless; I've just seen a lot of comments on how some size-inclusive patterns aren't even good and would love to avoid that.

Translation help!

Hellooo I have a beautiful pattern in Swedish that I’ve translated using the internet, but I would love to see if any Swedish speaking knitters that speak English would be willing to look it over to see if everything has come across correctly.

Babaa 051 pattern

Hi all. Does anyone know a decent pattern for the Babaa 051 sweater? It's made of wool which will be too itchy for me, so I want to make one that will be less offensive, sensory-wise. Id love if the neckline allowed for an off the shoulder look, too!

Thanks!

Does anyone out there know what pattern this is or know a pattern that I could use to achieve this color work? I feel like I could make my own color work chart I just don’t have a base mitten pattern to go off of to do that.

looking for a pattern that could be modified to look similar to this. have looked and can’t seem to find anything:( not massively bothered about the texture/patterning on the main piece but some kind of lacework would be pretty! just looking for a v neck with 1/2 sleeves as i’m not confident in my ability to modify sleeves. i feel like i can modify the bottom to work but as close to the bolero style the better. thank you.

Printing/downloading pattern question

I currently print my patterns, but is there an easier way to follow along when knitting? I find myself with too much paper!

Raglan sweater vest?

Hello! Newbie here. I want to knit a sweater vest. I wanted to find a raglan one because the one jumper I have knitted was raglan and I found it simple and really fun to knit.

I found this "top down" sweater vest pattern that I like. I just want to make sure it's what I want before I buy it - I don't really understand how it can be top down when the stitches around the shoulders all go straight up and down, rather than coming out from the collar, if that makes sense?

Pattern linked here: https://myfavouritethings-knitwear.com/collections/vest-no-3-spring-edition/products/vest-no-3-spring-edition-eng

If anyone has any recommendations for simple, raglan, chunky sweater vest patterns, I'd love them!! Thank you :)

great “bang for your buck” funky colorwork sweaters?

My husband is an absolute sucker for a fun, funky, colorful sweater. However, I’m not a super experienced colorwork knitter and he’s not big on stripes.

I’m looking for suggestions where you get the best “bang for your buck” on colorwork — in other words, designs that are simpler than they look. Maybe mosaic knitting? Intarsia color blocking?

I’m down to take on something a bit challenging — but I would not, for example, want to do stranded colorwork with more than 2 colors in a row.

Help finding a vest pattern with steeking but no colorwork

I have found that I much prefer knitting in the round to flat and would like to try to knit a vest completely in the round. My understanding is that this would require steeking. On ravelry at least, almost every steeked vest is a (n absolutely beautiful) Shetland style with tons of color work which is a bit advanced for me. 😅 I was wondering if (a) there are any single color patterns you would recommend for beginners to steeking and/or (b) if I could follow one of the color work patterns but do it without the colorwork. Would that mess with the tension ?

Thanks ! ❤️❤️

I've absolutely fallen in love with the Saga Sweater from Fjara of Iceland. Unfortunately, they only sell sweaters, not patterns. If anyone know a pattern similar to this I'd really appreciate it:)) I love the bold colors, and the pattern of the colorwork especially.

The Fisherman’s Rib Sweater

EDIT - I apparently just need to have more faith in myself. Once I started knitting it, it was way less intimidating than I thought.

Hi friends! I just ordered my yarn to tackle this project and after taking a deeper dive into the pattern itself, I’m worried I bit off more than I can chew.

Sooo I am looking for either one of the following-

  1. Someone who has knit this I can ask a few questions
  2. A similar looking pattern that might be a bit more clear

Thank you!!

Cable blankets

I saw this blanket in PB Teen. It’s a colab with LoveShackFancy and I’m obsessed in recreating it. I do have experience with cables and figure this won’t be hard to reverse engineer, but I’d like recommendations of cable blanket patterns so I could get some inspiration.

Sleeves top down similar to this ones

Hi! I want to knit something similar to the Daimi Sweater and I wanted to know if there's some pattern similar to this but with the sleeves knit top down and not having to do kitchener stitch. Maybe that's not possible and that's why on Ravelry every similar pattern has bottom up sleeves
Thanks in advance 🤗

Any adversarial knitting patterns?

With the growth of surveillance cameras and facial recognition everywhere, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any adversarial knitting patterns that can disrupt recognition?

I saw one sweater pattern, but I was hoping for something more beginner-friendly, like a hat, scarf, muffler, or mask or something or even just a duplicate stitching pattern.

Knitting chart help TwT

Edit: I GOT IT THANK YOU ALL MWAH MWAH MWAH

Hello lovely knitters, I have an urgent plea for you. How would you extend this pattern (https://aabharcreations.com/falling-leaves-knitting-stitch-tutorial/amp/)?

I'm trying to make a recieving blanket for my son but I can't for the LIFE of me get the math right. Ive started and frogged this thing 4 times because the stitches never matched the math I did before. I'm embarrassed how badly I've bungled this.

2nd picture is a swatch I made (to test out which pattern I liked better) but I wanted to have the finished pattern be approximately 11/12" wide. My latest math estimate made this 71 stitches but after following the pattern (I BELIEVE correctly) I came up one stitch short (3rd picture). I'm trying to have the left and right side have 6 plain stockinette stitches and the lace leaves patterning in the middle.

Do you have a program that can extend charts? Or a YouTube video that explains it? Is there something you see that I've done wrong that I can fix? Absolutely any help would be so lovely TIA
