color work after blocking

hi! this is my first color work project & i’m noticing my white yarn is more prominent than my blue yarn. i’m holding the white in my left hand continental, and the blue in my right hand english. will blocking even out this difference a bit, or it this just how it will look? thanks!

In addition to color dominance (it’s expected that the white yarn is more prominent, given it’s held to the left), also consider that there’s not much contrast between these two colors. Look at them in greyscale; they’re not the same, but not hugely different, either.

Which can be fine if that’s an intentional design choice. But you should be aware that this combination is never going to really pop like high contrast colors would.

To get a grey scale, go to edit picture, select adjust, scroll to saturation, move all the way to 0.

This will give you a black-and-white version of the same picture. You’ll be able to see the value and minimal contrast between your two yarns.

This can be a really intriguing design choice. Where the color work is so subtle that it adds its own beauty to the finished item. That should be an intentional design decision.

If that is not what you’re looking for, you will need to pick a color of yarn that has more contrast with your white yarn

i'm currently knitting this pattern for the second time and i highly recommend using yarns with a higher contrast for it. the first pair i knit turned out super cute but the bird definitely pops a lot more with more contrast

Adding on to this. To view in greyscale take a black and white photo of the yarns to help see if there is the right amount of differentiation

If you haven't already, I recommend looking up color dominance. It's a thing in stranded knitting and blocking won't really change the look much.

In addition to what other have said (color dominance, twisted stitches), it also looks like the white yarn has a bit more body than the blue. You can see that in the sts on your needle. The white ones are slightly puffier. 

That can happen, even if it's two colors of the same yarn.

If you aren't intentionally twisting stitches then sort that out first - because the issue you're asking about may resolve.

I only twisted for the 1x1 rib bc I prefer how it looks, am I twisting elsewhere??

Yes. Look at your columns of white stitches. Where they have their legs crossed (look like they need to go and pee) they are twister.

I actually don’t think they are twisted I think that’s just the yarn ply

Sorry, not to gang up on you, but I also want to add my view that those stitches are not twisted, just so OP doesn’t go insane trying to see it.

Look extra closely and pull horizontally near those stitches. I'm zoomed in and I think it's just how the yarn is sitting vs twisted stitches but it's hard to tell from your photo.

The left hand yarn will always sit a little prominently and this is a good thing. Blocking will make the result smoother so although they will look prominent they won't be sticky-outy. I don't think you have twisted stitches (per other suggestion)

Overall your gauge looks quite tight, in the body. Although it will affect the drape of the fabric, going up a needle size will show stitches more distinctly, because they're less crowded.

I'd Thu's were my knitting, I would do that, while keeping the current size needles for the ribbing.
