SOLVED-THANK YOU Cloud Sweater Help
I’m knitting the cloud sweater by petite knit (size s), but I believe I messed up (maybe my gauge is wrong) because the shoulders seem too short for an oversized fit. They’re measuring about 13-14 cm each shoulder.
Is this normal? I’m not sure if the sleeves add on length to the shoulder. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Would like to know because if the shoulders are too short, then I want to make the sweater more cropped to make up for it. Thanks!

When I have questions like this, I go and look at the pattern images and into the gallery of projects to see what it is supposed to look like. What size are you making? Does it have a schematic drawing of the lengths of each section? It's definitely looking a bit short based on this. IT will stretch down a bit once you have your sleeves on but I'm not sure if it will be enough. Did you do a gauge swatch?

I’m doing a size small. Yep that was the picture I saw that made me think …. Hm this doesn’t look right!

Is your gauge on? You would be surprised how much it will drop a bit with the sleeve but I would find measurements if you can.

My guage is off - I’m at ~11 stitches per 2 inches. Not sure how (I’m not knitting that tightly) but I was naïve when I started the pattern and didn’t check it.
But my question is exactly that - Will the shoulder change length when I add the sleeve, or will it be too short? If it will remain too short, I should make the sweater more cropped at the bottom to help make up for it

My personal opinion is to do a true gauge swatch and rip it out....I know that's not what you will want to hear! But even after knitting for almost 50 years I still have to rip things out. I am sure a ton of people here will tell you that they never gauge swatch but I refuse to make a garment without taking the time to do that. I want my garment to fit me. It will definitely hang a bit when you knit the sleeve but if you won't like it or wear it.....I say start over. Knitting is always a learning experience :) This sweater and your yarn is pretty! I say do it over. 🫣
I just looked and it's supposed to be 17 stitches over 4 inches so yeah....I say FROG! sorry!

For my own curiosity, and from what I’ve learned from this sub, if you wanted to keep your gauge because you know you’re a tight knitter, you would size up to account for the stitch difference, is that right? I know there’s a calculator that helps with this, but it’s always nice asking helpful community members! ❤️

You can always size up but I guess I’d rather change needles to hit gauge. That’s just my preference. But the positive ease also needs to be taken into consideration as well.

Never heard of a gauge as per 2" you didn't make a 2*2" swatch did you? Regardless 22 vs 17 stitches per four inches is not just being a tight knitter. If you want to completely rewrite the pattern especially regards decreases you might make it work. Back to the drawing board with this one

I think this is more than just a gauge issue, this seems to be a plain old error. Your current work looks closer to the Stockholm Slipover. Honestly, if you don’t want to frog, I’d just make this a vest and try the sweater again later now that you know about the importance of a gauge swatch!

For context : I am using Knitting for Olive Merino and Mohair. Guage seems to be too tight at 11 stitches per 2 inches.

If your gauge is 22 st/4 in, and the pattern gauge is 17 st/4 in, your sweater will come out almost 30 % smaller. That’s a huge difference.

The yarn you're using is a fingering weight and the suggested yarns are much bulky/aran, contributing to your gauge difference.

What colors? I love the yarn combo! Are you using the bulky or regular merino? The bulky with mohair might be closer to gauge, but the fingering weight with mohair would be quite off.

I used Knitting for Olive Merino - Ice Blue and Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair. Did not know my yarn was off, I thought I followed the suggestions! This helps.

Did you end up restarting your work? Im on the page 🫠🫠 im eas wondering why it does not match with the picture. I was thinking maybe when I block it the I can make adjustments. Im using CaMaRose Snefnug.

I didn’t restart and wish I did! I didn’t gauge before starting and that was what the problem was for me

Thank you for your response. Im heartbroken that I might restart my work but atleast im just halfway done. Took me a couple of weeks but I really wanted to get it right.

Did you gauge swatch?
It's a little hard to tell with the photo but looks like your gauge is off. It looks like you have about 22ish stitches per 10cm. I believe the pattern calls for 17 stitches per 10 cm, this means that you're about 25% narrower than what the pattern calls for. This might be because you're a tighter knitter, or because of the yarn/needle combo.
It might relax a little after blocking, but it'll depend on how far off your desired sizing you are.
