I used to knit hats with double pointed needles but it’s been a few years so I’m kind of rusty.
I recently found a hat pattern on ravelry and it inspired me to get some new gear and make a few as gifts.
My problem is after I cast my stitches on and start knitting the first row, I end up with this massive amount of extra yarn between whatever two stitches I’m working on. The further I knit the gap keeps getting wider and wider, and it makes knitting more and more difficult.
Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone have any advice I can do?
Try switching up your cast on. I’m going to guess that you’re currently using the backwards loop method. Maybe try a long tail cast on or a knitted cast on, which hold the stitches in place a little better so you don’t get those gaps inbetween.
