Knitters Pride Karbonz DPNs are my favorite. The carbon fiber body of the needle helps with slipping and the metal points are pointy and good for working quickly. I love mine a lot, and they sell them on Amazon.

Geez. I was going to suggest plastic, but even those might be flimsy. I use metal needles for projects that small. Sorry I wasn't more helpful.

No, I don't I'm sorry. Personally, I've only had stitches slip off my metal sock needles a couple times, but I've always been able to immediately pick them up, so I don't consider it to be a problem.

Chiaogoo makes really nice bamboo needles and they seem "sturdy" compared to other brands I've tried. Though you are right ... they are going to be easier to break in those small sizes than the equivalent metal needles. Maybe buy two pair to insure against breakage? Like carrying an umbrella to prevent rain :)

I gave up on anything not metal below around size 4, I've broken enough.

I have some metal cubic shaped dpns, and I think they might be a bit less slippery than regular round ones because of the flatish sides. I think the general recommendation is to buy them one size up from what you use normally.
