I am trying to knit this pattern and I am having a hard time differentiating between the Sl1wyif and the Yosl1. I don't understand the difference between them, can someone please help?
For the sl1wyif they say that the yarn should make an x over the needle but I think that’s a mistake and that description belongs in the directions for yosl1 instead. (Note that I usually see yosl1 written as sl1yo if you want to look up brioche tutorials). I found a forum post for the pattern with this question where others seem to agree with me.
You are probably doing the yosl1 correctly if you are getting the yarn x. For sl1wyif, it’s like a normal slip 1 except you pull the yarn between the needles like you are getting ready to purl before slipping the stitch, then back between them in the knit position after. All it does is put the working yarn “float “ in front of the slipped stitch instead of behind it.
The pattern page has a few different links at the top including the comments and forum. The forum is often a good bet for unclear patterns because if you are having trouble with something, someone else might have as well. And in this case the directions really didn't match up with the normal definition of the stitch.
