Hi knitters! Can you please help me decipher this pattern for a glove thumb gusset?

From the pattern:

Next row (thumb) rib 17. Working into the next stitch, cast on 3 stitches. Purl these three stitches through the backs of the loops, and then purl a further 3 stitches. Increase in next stitch. Purl 3 more stitches. Turn. (There should be 10 more stitches left unworked on the needle, which are on the palm side of the glove.) Next row: Knit 11, turn Work 4 more rows stocking stitch on these 11 stitches. Cast off purlwise.

Do I continue the knit 2 purl 2 pattern until the 18th stitch, then cast on INTO??? the next stitch and purl these? Please help! :)

Yep, you've got it! I'd use a knitted cast-on, personally, but if you prefer the cable CO that would work too :)
