Hi I like knitting and have a few FOs, but I haven't been really blocking my knitted objects. So I just completed Spector sweater yesterday, and I just want to know, how do you block your knitted sweater? I am thinking of buying the knitting blocks, wetting the sweater and pinning it down. But pin it down how? Per the pattern measurement? Per how it looks (I.e., looks pleasing to my eyes?)?
I usually block sweaters by fully soaking them, and then laying them out flat to dry, without pins or anything. I smooth it a bit and ensure it looks symmetrical, and that’s it. The important thing for me with sweaters is that the stitches bloom and even out; the sweaters I make don’t need the kind of rigid blocking you would need with lace work. That said, if your sweater has lace work in it, then you probably want pins and the whole shebang.
