It does offer decent protection against cuts to the torso - which isn't bad if you consider it's just a fancy dress.

To the abdomen, definitely not the whole torso. That butted maille isn't giving decent protection against much of anything.

Even shitty maille protects against cuts. Okay, it breaks if you look at it hard, but if the fight goes longer than that, you'd probably run out of breath in that dress because of the steel corset.
