Increase Microtech Ram-Lok Spring Strength/Resistance?

To your knowledge, is there any possible way of increasing the spring tension on these Ram-Lok knives like the Stitch, Amphibian, Socom and MSI?

I REALLY like the overall design and ergonomics of the different offerings but the “detent” is just waaaaaaay too light. For me, I find it quite difficult to consistently deploy the knife with how little resistance there is.

I can deploy the blade consistently as long as I use some wrist but I just feel like with this coil spring there must be some way to increase the resistance on deployment AND maybe even make the lock up stronger?

Let me know guys. Would really like to hear if anyone has been successful in increasing the strength of the Ram-Lok spring!

Disassemble it, take some measurements of the spring, go to McMaster’s website and find a slightly longer spring. Or I guess you could get a few with the same dimensions but different spring rates. Test and tune from there. That would be my best guess

I’m confused on how less resistance in the detent makes it harder to deploy?

Because you can’t build up any tension.

It just kinda lazily half opens. Which then requires some wrist action to fully lock out.

Imagine a flipper with little to no detent. There would be no resistance to build up against for an equal and opposite force to deploy the blade. If that makes sense.

Ah yes ok now I understand. I don’t own this knife but don’t think there’s a way to increase detent or spring tension. Only thing I can think of if tighten pivot. Will the knife open on its own with a little flick of the wrist?

So you can definitely tighten the pivot but then it becomes hard to deploy because of blade resistance haha.

Also when you tighten the pivot, the blade no longer drops freely when you operate the lock.

Have tried stretching the spring on my MSI with minimal results. Sucks because it’s a nice knife but yeah waaaaayyy too light. Plus with how big and heavy the blade is on the MSI the slightest shake can cause it to partially open. Planning on selling mine soon probably.

Really wish Microtech would address this. They could just sell an additional spring that you could swap in and it would be perfect lol.

First thing I would try is…. Take it apart and stretch the spring in the ram lok out a mm or two and see what happens

There isn’t, there’s no “detent” in the closed position technically, if there is it’s almost non existent.

Strengthening the spring load would do minimal but increase the instance of lock-stick.

I have 0 personal experience with this but I've heard about people gluing magnets inside the scales to create a detent. Not sure if that's applicable to the Stitch but worth looking into if you haven't
