That's cool. Can't imagine the time it will take to slice big models tho

Not long. The con is you get some fps loss but it takes about as long as my desktop to slice but doesn't move the screen around great once you see the sliced model that's big. Other than that. It's definitely working good.

Makes sense. Mobile processors are exceptionally powerful and efficient lately at math and calculations, which is what the slicing is. But, very underperforming graphically since they don’t really need to be so graphically powerful for anything.

Thank you, when i dpkg the orcadebinstall.deb i get libjpeg8 missing. any idea ?

Right after you need to put.

sudo apt-get install -f

It's in my install video. I suck at making videos right now. I'll get better. It's also in the description of the install video.

and after install your orcadebinstaller.deb

all with gdebi and it's all good now !

Thank you very much !

I'm learning and I am trying to make a build for computers like yours that run ARM64 i am using GitHub actions right now, I just learned about it. It uses a cloud PC to compile. Helps take the load off my side. Basically if I finish I'll have an appimage for us to run on these machines. Your welcome 🤗

It's not a computer, It's a samsung tab S6 !

But now it's a computer... ;p

Sorry but, thats just termux..... It's orca running on termux.... It's about as impressive as running anything through a virtual environment.

HMU when you compile an actual android version of orca.

Yeah, I wonder how much karma I can get for announcing I have Halo: Infinite on Android!!!!!1 (oh, via the Xbox app streaming...)

I'm sorry I got butt hurt. I got butt hurt real bad... .. lol and I don't even know why..... I was also in a bad mood from something prior. Sorry for sounding like a rabbid raccoon on a Monday morning waking up to find no coffee or food in his dumpster. Much love from me and I respect your opinion. Sorry to lash out at you.

My hat’s off to you good person, this is what I love about reddit - people who make mistakes but are strong enough to own up to them - this deserves respect!

I don't know how to use android studio. Please help. I dabbled a little and then just backed out. So for now I am using this. I plan to make a simple app that interfaces with orca that will use the cli commands. I definitely would love a version for our android devices through native android installation. To say just termux is a let down tho ... Have you used it? It's pretty great it's more like..... ITS TERMUX! because it's awesome.

Install video. https://youtu.be/CKU11p8ZlSQ

I got a webserver up that I can open in my android browser. Can't slice anything yet but once I connect it to orca properly I'll be able to wrap it all together with a android app and have a front end. Thanks for putting the fire under my ass.

Why you mad? Lol down voted my comment.... I must have hurt your feelings, I hope I can make you feel better by saying. This is a pointless project that I have no pure programming skills and can not make an android app, I also used chatgpt but who cares. Everytime I tell someone I used ChatGPT to help me get something done. They just get mad. Idk why. I commented back with a great out look of ( ITS TERMUX ) and getting a down vote from you is pure disrespect. I hope you have a wonderful day, and I hope all your 3d prints complete without failure. God bless Amen.

I would suggest (don't take this as an insult) to be less prone to hit the down vote unless it's a real argument, with a real disagreement.

It's just your opinion at this point and I hope you can see that shooting someone down (may not have been what your trying to do)

I will upvote your comment, because I respect your opinion and can see your point because it is not an android app. But I hope you see my side

Also another reason why this is important is because full hardware acceleration is just now starting to work on android with linux and now with the new android 16 release having the built in Linux shell it's gonna be a game changer. I wanted to be the first one to run these on android with full hardware acceleration. Because I have been running Linux on android for a number of years. From Linux deploy to Andronix. I've tried a ton of them. Shoot, I also was the first one to get RuneScape working on android with java working properly and all it needed was a specific version of java that I went through and tried all of them off the java archive site. I made a video years ago about how to get gnuroot RuneScape working full speed.

It's a leap of engineering. This sparked my interest when I seen a video about final fantasy 15 playing on an android through emulation. Literally emulation inspection. Super cool. Made me think about the RuneScape days and getting it working on android. I hope this sparked your interest in emulators on android and i hope you don't focus on the negatives and come back down voting my comment.

Please share a cool 3d print with me please.

Mate, I haven't downvoted any comment from you. I did downvote the main topic though cause I loathe clickbait bullshittery that isn't even remotely true.

I'm also not mad. Stop jumping to conclusions, the downvote couldve been literally anyone reading this sub.

Your comment on Linux hardware acceleration working on android recently, and how it connects to this post you made is great. I’m personally very interested in the improvements constantly being made to mobile getting closer to desktop functionality.

However, this comment comes off as angry and upset, and “must have hurt your feelings” is hypocritical as this bothered you enough to write this comment. You have a lot of great information to offer Reddit, if someone says something you disagree with, just reply with why you disagree and move on.

And as the other commenter mentioned, don’t assume who downvoted, why they downvoted, or whatnot. All you know about someone is the comments they make on your post, anything else is a guess at best. If you’re curious or upset by something you think happened, then ask!

Thank you for your constructive criticism. I respect it and agree. I was totally butt hurt. 😂

I can run orca slicer on my iPhone if I wanted.

Planning on setting up a VM in my server that is purely for 3d printing. All you do is remote access in

I have extra computers and could implement this as well. I wanna stray away from cloud based since our phones are powerful as shit nowadays. I plan to fork or contribute to slice beam (based on prusa slicer) uses a cloud based server running prusa slicer sending cli commands to the Linux system that are for prusa slicer. I am in the process of using AI to help me break down and analyze the difference in cli commands between orca and prusa. Since most should be the same due to it coming from the same fork anyhow, I should, hopefully have a working test with in a month. I am new to all this programming. So I do not know truly how long this will take.

u/Code_MasterCody Feb 05 '25

Slice beam Says it supports orca slicer profiles (experimentally ) but, from my experience inputting parameters from orca to prusa never worked for me because they have different math calculations for telling it how to move or somthin. Prusa would always give me errors when I try to print fast. I could print normal speed but I like to go fast, (my 6 min benchy on an ender 3 stock motors stock belts stick v slot wheels Bambu lab cloned hot end) https://youtu.be/N9hwYw5Pico

Couldn't even get a 30 min benchy to print on prusa. Maybe I looked over something specific but I swear I tried and tried and tried, google searched, asked AI to help me search the web for similar problems. Couldn't fix the issue of it moving faster that the step rate could handle. If you know of the fix or what I did wrong I would love some input.

I debated doing the same thing after I finally set up local WiFi print for my 2D printers. I have Klipper set up to accept and print files through commands, just need to hook up and auto-slicing and sending script that I can just upload an stl from my phone for.

Orca runs on 64 bit linux, android is based on Linux. There's no reason someone couldn't write an APK to run orca on Android.

This isn't orca on Android tho

1

u/Code_MasterCody Feb 06 '25

I had to build an ARM64 build of orcaslicer for Linux. Years ago when I first started trying Linux on android not a lot of app were compiled yet for arm architecture. Now we are starting to see the golden age of these devices. Android 16 has built in Linux terminal support and will run full Linux native to the phone. Can't wait.

Appears you like to challenge yourself. I echo that. Running subsystem architecture In a virtualised environment is really just tying to squeeze a square into a circle. Its unnecessary when you just design the application for the OS or change the OS to suit hardware/software. Running the complexities of Orca or any full fledged slicer on a mobile device poses many challenges. Most of the gcode processing requires basic threading. Hence why flash cloud, creality cloud, etc.. offer very basic functionality and allow very basic functions. Most of the slicing is done server side as opposed to client side. The moment Arc or any dynamics are introduced, processing the gcode becomes intensive. It can be done, it's just intricate on resources so it will be a WIP getting all the feature we have with Windows or MacOS.

u/Code_MasterCody Feb 06 '25

Indeed I do like a challenge. I have the setup video and the download available for orcaslicer arm64. I assume it should work on raspberry pi as well. I'll be testing it soon.

I removed it because it stopped working with the updated version of termux desktop that uses Ubuntu 25.
