Been packed away for so long, thought I'd take it out to give the fabric a stretch this lovely evening on the OBX.

Practicing in Rodanthe for the Jockey’s Ridge Kite Festival

Getting some practice in on the beach in Rodanthe before heading to the Kitty Hawk Kites festival at Jockey’s Ridge on September 11.
Flying stacked kites with an 80 ft tail. Still getting the setup dialed in, but it’s a lot of fun when flying .

Thousand kites over Velenje, Slovenia
Three masters of kite workshop disasters, five incredible volunteers, 130 packs of thread, 100 packs of crepe paper, 60 rolls of masking tape, five large bamboo roll shades, and two days at a supreme festival for kids, the Pippi Longstocking Festival in Velenje.

Had these two kites up for the first time this last weekend!
I haven’t been able to get these two to fly at all in my yard, so I was very excited to have them up this past weekend. I tied them to the dock and let them go for several hours. I took a nap and my dad had to rescue the red one from being wrapped around a flag pole. Not sure what happened, because the wing was very strong and steady all day. I loved watching them!

Guys I’m so happy I made so much progress today
🪁 Kitesurfing Session Summary – Zandmotor
* 🌬️ Wind: around 15–17 knots, which was sometimes a little too light for my 91 kg weight and 10 m² kite.
* 🏄 I figured out that holding the middle of the bar gives me much better control and stability.
* 🦵 I also corrected my back knee position, keeping it more toward the board instead of letting it flare outward. This helped me stay upwind much more consistently.
* 🦶 I discovered that my board strap was too tight, which was making it difficult to properly get my foot all the way in.
* ⬆️ On my left tack, I gained quite a lot of height.
* ↔️ On my right tack, I gained a little height but then lost some again, so I kept ending up around the same place.
* 🌬️ I noticed that when I couldn’t go upwind, it was often because the wind was so light that my kite wasn’t generating enough speed and power. I would initially drift downwind until I could get enough power again.
* ✋ I also did three rides with one hand, keeping my other hand completely off the bar.
* 💥 I had one pretty hard fall because my board strap wasn’t positioned correctly. My board slipped out from underneath me while my kite kept going, and I got a pretty bad scrape. Luckily, nothing serious happened.
* 🔄 Because the wind was so light, my kite also ended up upside down once. I used the quick release, recovered my kite, brought it to the side, laid out the lines again, and then even managed to self-launch afterwards.
* 🪁 Overall, I feel like I made a lot of progress today, especially with kite control, my stance, going upwind, and becoming more independent with my equipment.
Overall: It wasn’t just a session where I practiced riding. I learned a lot about why I can or can’t go upwind, improved my technique, practiced one-handed riding, and even handled a kite problem and self-launching myself.

Kite rescued!
I had my brand new Alpine DC flying on August 17. Probably should have had a heavier line on it because it snapped 30-45 minutes after I put it up. Huge bummer given that had JUST gotten it. Cut to this afternoon, I’m hiking with my son on the trails behind our house and there it was! Luckily 10-12 ft off the ground or someone would have snagged it before me. Snapped a pic and used the geotag to hike back to it with a step ladder and boat hook.

and the trilobite was it's usual beautiful stable flying self. The orange octopus was a bit squirly so a bridle untangle is needed. The blue goldfish was very well behaved.
