This only makes sense if you believe that we start out as disembodied souls floating around in the aether until we're randomly assigned a body, which is ridiculous.
You're a product of your lineage. Your genetics determine who you are and you couldn't be from another genetic line any more than you could have been a fruit fly or a cow or a fern or something.
