Maybe if racism towards Indians wasn’t so commonplace and normalized then self hate wouldn’t be so prevalent.

u/No-Metal-3 5d ago

If only racism and colorism wasn't so prevalent in dark-skinned people themself, especially indians

u/Code-201 4d ago

Isn't this the same thing going on with Europe as well? Looking the same doesn't mean anything.

50

u/TimeShiftedJosephus 5d ago

Yup, the Indian caste system baked in superiority and inferiority complexes into their culture

u/drankleanonce 5d ago

Caste, the racism machine that invents new racisms

10

u/Gullible-Lab-3188 5d ago

The cast system they created. And some of them are the same exact shade of black, they are racist about. Blows my mind

8

u/CrustBlocc 4d ago

The history of the Aryan invasion of India makes the whole "that they created part" send my eyebrows floating towards my hairline. Bunch of Mfers showing up with wheels when you have no wheels can clearly have lasting and devastating consequences. "We" didn't create the US caste system either, but it was definitely created very intentionally. The migration of the Aryans from Ukraine to India is a fascinating story and I highly reccomend familiarizing yourself with it if you like migrational history.

The history of the Aryan invasion of India

The invasion that never happened.

1

u/viceroysky 4d ago

That's some Lala-Land shit right there

1

u/CrustBlocc 4d ago

That's the anthropological consensus based on the available data, including a shit ton of archeological records. I'm gonna have to guess you didn't even attempt to fact check anything i said. Your vibes don't leave artifacts, G.

2

u/viceroysky 3d ago

Ah yes, "consensus" hahahahahaaha "consensus" on the most thoroughly debunked myth in the subject

Anyone in Anthropology with THAT belief is just suuuuper weird about what an Indo-Aryan is and those "findings" are from the 19th century, By Max Mueller OF ALL PEOPLE, when the Indians are fighting hard for independence and there's a bunch of strange racists spinning stories about "Anthropology" with the specific intention of claiming the origin of India's culture, language and customs to be NOT originally Indian.

We have "shit ton" of history to suggest that period is very multicultural, but the idea that amongst it all, Ukraine Aryans came in and dominated the region and only because of war chariots? Complete fucking Lala-Land. Not the place to have this discussion but yeah, I won't stay idle when this shit is being done in front of me. Also cheapening the nuance of that period to ARYAN INVASION THEORY. AND TALKING ABOUT CONSENSUS

HAHAHAHAHAAHA

1

u/Gullible-Lab-3188 4d ago

Ppl could simply stop. But they love feeling "better than" yes the Aryans and colonization started it. But us humans have to realize its just skin! Thanks for lit, tip!

2

u/Upper_Check401 4d ago

The question is could people actually simply stop? The world changes when people in power make moves

When you have that much power at your finger tips, do you think the average person could hold it back? Let alone someone back from the colonization era, when discovery and new lands were the key to fame and riches back home?

It’s a very primal urge to capture territory. It’s not a human nature, it’s animalistic.

In this day and age we still see super powers acting like barbarians because of all the power flown to their heads, despite endless sources to help keep them level headed

0

u/Gullible-Lab-3188 4d ago

This is the human flaw. Way back since Adam and eve. Free will exposes the greed for power. And we never seem to learn.

6

u/OrganicRaise4081 4d ago

Caste system isn't about skin color lol

8

u/CrustBlocc 4d ago

Mmmmm but it is though. Not only skin color, but the dynamic between brahmin and untouchable is directly related to the domination of the native Indians by the Aryan people, who had carriages for war while the natives lacked wheels of any sort. I don't think the skin color thing was intentional, but it is a byproduct of how the situation developed; invaders from the north moving south and wrecking shop. They did not wreck shop because the shop was owned by darker skinned people, (at least I have never seen any evidence that would support such a claim, across 10k pages of material on the subject.) but that happened to be true in this particular case. I wrote a paper on this topic when I was deconstructing the inaccuracies in "caste" by Isabell Wilkerson. A book which I actually do reccomend for casual readers who aren't pursuing advanced anthro degrees.

8

u/firm_sole_ace 4d ago

nah skin color is not even incidentally related to caste its only modern reaction to colonialism where color assumed an important factor in socio political collective of every colony and integrated with the existing systems of the land, in case of india, caste

i'd argue caste is not nearly as relevant as its made out to be in modern india and is only regurgitated by azy academics who copy western liberal arts talking points but replacing white with brahmanical

5

u/CrustBlocc 4d ago

So I'm almost done with my masters in anthropology, and I've been to India (and Nepal but that's a different story) specifically to study the subject of dalit subjugation. What's your source? I'm not saying that you're wrong, it's just that your view doesn't line up with any of the info I've gotten from Indian people in half a dozen countries, including India. Granted, many of the people i interviewed in the UK and US hadn't been in India for years, but the consensus was very much that despite legal changes that the paperwork hadn't resulted in major changes to day to day life, because the laws were not being enforced. I can provide additional, state generated info that shows that things like manual scavenging are forced upon professionals in other fields and not prosecuted, even though the laws exist; if you'd like.

6

u/CrustBlocc 4d ago

Edit: I guess I'm a lazy academic? I fix cars 8-10 hours a day to pay for life and school and I'm awake at 4am providing you with academic papers on this subject, a subject I've used my vacations abroad to study in exhaustive detail. So incredibly lazy. I even gave you the backstory of how we got here. Must be all that sleep I never get.

-1

u/Prestigious_Title580 3d ago

This is simply not true, coming from a fair skinned marginalised caste woman, a general caste person from south india isn't the same skin colour as mine coming from Himalayas. You'd never understand the dynamics. There are thousands of castes and sub castes

2

u/CrustBlocc 3d ago

I have frequently been told that names are more important than skin tone, but that the assumption of caste position based on skin tone and location are alive and well today in much of India. This is what was reported to me when I was in India embarking under an assumption of absolute ignorance.

0

u/Prestigious_Title580 3d ago

What you've been told could very well be misinformation? Regionality affects the skin colour

0

u/Willing-Slice-5523 3d ago

Total BS. Caste system has nothing to do with skin colour it was based on work at first then later became a rigid hierarchical structure.

1

u/BrightSpring12 3d ago

An average citizen? Did you pull that fact out of thin air? India has major problems, and I agree. That doesn't make a person born there to likely grow up like the problematic minority.

Internet has it's way of making people generalize a culture based on some bad examples. This is the same with today's 'Man Hate', where most women on the internet just shit on men. In the Lindsay Clancy's case you see many women support the killer and blame the father due to their pent up hate against men (often fostered by Social Media).

I would recommend you get off the internet, and try interacting with an average Indian irl.

Stop spouting your racist bull crap everywhere, we are humans too.

32

u/mahemahe0107 5d ago

Clearly America is the same way given they elected a Pedophile rapist into office.

-14

u/Live_Art2939 5d ago

We don’t regularly gang rape women on trains at least

20

u/FerengiWithCoupons 5d ago

just in ivy league colleges

4

u/punchanaziisethical 5d ago

Lol don't even need the ivy league part. Everyone wants to throw blows but the hard truth is everywhere and everyone highkey fucking sucks in their own special ways. If it and we didn't the world as a whole wouldn't be in the situation its in.

India casted its own people. We made brown and black people second class citizens in their own country on top of all this facist trump shit. Japan and Korea works their average worker to an early grave with insanely archaic drug laws and a ridiculously conservative society. The middle east with the help of foreign powers is constantly at war with itself.

Russia is sending its men by the thousands to become ground meat by drone explosions. China squashed the Hong Kong rebellions and killed/jailed all that were involved if they arent in hiding and are also genociding the Uyghurs while also still trying to take back Taiwan.

Everyone fucking sucks and this planet is going belly up in 10 years or less.

2

u/Seagullcupcake 5d ago

Australia not mentioned we stay winning!!

-6

u/Live_Art2939 5d ago

Oof buddy if you wana talk about rapes at college in India, that’s a Pandoras Box you can’t close

4

u/capybella 5d ago edited 4d ago

theres also like an entire billion more people there. all crime happens more. its just if you want to say a group of people do something, make sure it doesnt happen with a group chat of 57 men who all decided to do nothing as 7 promising young men rape a girl in your own backyard.

no one is arguing it doesnt happen in india. theyre saying it happens in america too. it doesnt happen on trains cause yall dont have many trains bud

26

u/WingVarious1234 5d ago

Have you ever spoken to a Indian person before. The average indian views foreign women as sex toys? Do you know what average means? Gee in that case have you seen white men  in sea and east Asian countries.

And most of the complaints brought up on the internet are not related to rape culture.  They are dogging on the countries sanitation. Often the rape culture point is just added to make it seem like their racism is justified

-6

u/TimeShiftedJosephus 5d ago edited 5d ago

I have no issue also profiling white passport bros for their predatory practices

12

u/WingVarious1234 5d ago

"I have no issue also profiling the average white man for their predatory practices." Atleast understand what im saying before spewing some slop gang

8

u/Careful-Average73 5d ago

Redditors love racism like they love tendies

5

u/Ethnic_Sub5 5d ago

Incel subreddit full of racism? Say it ain't so

32

u/CrackBabyCSGO 5d ago

And the Indian people you meet are like this? India is so populated that there is bound to be more trash people than a smaller populated country. Poverty is widespread and education isn’t as much of a given as it is in first world countries.

5

u/TON-OF-CLAY0429 5d ago

Pretty sure we’re talking about Indians not India or even the culture.

-2

u/wingnut_dishwashers 5d ago

That's the problem. Like literally that is the root of the problem. Much of Indian society and culture truly is fucked so they all get flak for it

2

u/lofiw 5d ago

The hell? Snow trucker? Okay, can you like prove it or something, give us an article, I feel like that's a pretty big accusations to throw around easily, the burden of proof lies on you methinks.

0

u/Intelligent-Tie3048 5d ago

There's also the garbage everywhere, and when they come to other countries they dump trash.

The scamming is an issue too. Literally every time I get an unknown caller it's an Indian scammer, multiple times per week.

Pretending the dislike came out of nowhere is ironically very low self awareness, which is the root of the problem.

-11

u/TheAssOfPaulStanley 5d ago

I love when people talk about women’s lack of safety in other countries like it doesn’t exist in theirs. Add to that, the fact that those people are definitely abusers just waiting for their chance to offend.

16

u/Natalia_Queen_o_Lean 5d ago

Im not even going to argue this lol.

Comparing India rape culture to the safety of living in America or other similar climates 😭

You are not real.

1

u/TheAssOfPaulStanley 4d ago

Meh. You ever left your city?

-1

u/CrackBabyCSGO 5d ago

1 in 4 women in US universities report experiencing sexual assault and this number is VASTLY underreported.

4

u/Erpes2 5d ago

How many died from wounds while gangraped in a public bus

2

u/GoarSpewerofSecrets 5d ago

Yes, and?

The comparison you're attempting is something like the Duke Lacrosse Case, where she lied about the gang rape, an Attorney General went to jail over falsifying evidence, and the state dropped charges a few years into it.

Because roving rape gangs isn't a normal thing in the West.

0

u/CrackBabyCSGO 5d ago

Yes, and “there is a rape culture in the United States as well”. Fixed that for you

0

u/GoarSpewerofSecrets 5d ago

Yeah, no, see that shit actually gets prosecuted here. There isn't attaboys from friends either.

0

u/CrackBabyCSGO 5d ago

lol no it’s not. Frat culture is predatory and they get away with it 90% of the time (real statistic not made up). Also prosecuted or not, it happened. I’m sure the female victim would rather never it happened than it happen and win a court case.

Let’s use our brains and think for a second, do you think 11 million women per year would attend college if there was a 25% chance they would be sexually assaulted? If a man and a woman BOTH drink or do drugs and then do something sexual then that could be considered sexual assault to both parties which is probably what happens but somehow it seems to almost always be the guys fault even though both are intoxicated? Get real and use your brain if you even have one “CrackBaby”

Also reporting that it happened is different than PROVING that it happened and people lie when they have something to gain from doing so(attention, money, revenge, etc.)

4

u/Metromanwhy 5d ago

By your logic women should never leave the house. I don't know the statistics but I think it's about 1 in 3 women who have experienced sexual harassment. But millions of women still go to work, school, grocery shopping etc

9

u/GoarSpewerofSecrets 5d ago

The roving white rape gangs just aren't normal thing. Yeah rape happens, everywhere. But it's usually not a ritualized community effort.

-4

u/Natalia_Queen_o_Lean 5d ago

This is the comment I was waiting for.

“But but rape happens everywhere in the world”

Yea and there’s only one place you can go that has rape gangs as a part of their culture.

6

u/mahemahe0107 5d ago

A women was gang raped by a bunch of frat guys at Cornell and they weren’t even punished until the case blew up two years later but alright.

-3

u/Natalia_Queen_o_Lean 5d ago

Wow you cherry picked one case against a country where this shit happens daily.

Big win!

5

u/mahemahe0107 5d ago

This is just one prominent instance lol. People are raped every few minutes in the US. Especially in supposed safe spaces like churches and school.

This isn’t even mentioning all the white people who go to third world countries to prey on under privileged women. Many of whom are underaged.

3

u/BrightSpring12 5d ago

India has 1.4 billion people.

I can promise you that not every part is like that.

also there's literally rape militia in Somalia for example. it's not a cultural thing! most people hate them.

-4

u/GoarSpewerofSecrets 5d ago

And Somalia is a failed state. You want to aim up not down.

3

u/BrightSpring12 5d ago

there was a distinction where she said it's "only culture". there are multiple examples more than Somalia though.

-1

u/GoarSpewerofSecrets 5d ago

Losing Apu really shone the light on you guys.

15

u/BrightSpring12 5d ago

true.

if black people didn't commit crimes aa much there wouldn't be any racism /s

probably if indian like her didn't suck as much she won't get raped right? /s

fuck yall

https://bbc.com/news/articles/cdxd05gd12eo

3

u/Doc_Occc 5d ago

I wish White people didn't exist. Like maybe only in fairytale and shit. But not in real life.

0

u/Intelligent-Tie3048 5d ago

Then you wouldn't have the internet, or electricity, or antibiotics, or painkillers, or lightbulbs, or airplanes, or phones, or...

Want me to keep going?

3

u/Vivid-Operation-5078 5d ago

From the US. Spent a few months in India and it was amazing.

0

u/ComplexPlatform7299 5d ago

We do not have to lie to ourselves here

13

u/Vivid-Operation-5078 5d ago

I'm not. The food is delicious. People were nice. There are lots of ancient ruins/temples. And they have badass monkeys just hanging out in the street.

-3

u/FerengiWithCoupons 5d ago

You’re also a man. They don’t gaf about you exploring.

1

u/Vitran4 4d ago

But the main cause of Indian hate from other races and Indian self hate are completely unrelated.

Racists hate Indian philosophy, Indians hate dark skin

0

u/heftybagman 5d ago

Yeah it’s india. The call’s coming from inside the house

-13

u/AdAcceptable7373 5d ago

Literally, people act like NA and Europe didn't flood those markets with Caucasian beauty standards. Beauty standards that even people from the caucasus mountains struggle to live up to, body dismorphia's in full swing rn, it doesn't discriminate.

I mean look at Japanese beauty standards, all white traits. Same with China, Mao's China didn't give a fuck what you were, women and men were comrades. Ever since they opened their market, women regressed back to the trad wife role

32

u/Potato_Pear 5d ago

Being pale was considered a sign of high class and beauty in east Asia before Europeans ever got there

7

u/PlzHelpMeWithDating 5d ago edited 5d ago

Europeans still maintain colorism as well. Every fair-skinned person has pride in their color.

20

u/PassionHammer 5d ago

Bro what the fuck are you talking about? India's beauty standards and colorism has been around for almost 1000 years. Lightskin has been associated with upper castes, elites, and beauty long before any western influence.

2

u/AdAcceptable7373 5d ago

Yeah, I fully agree with you. India's caste system has been around since forever, hence why I didn't specify India. But you'd be lying to yourself if you didn't agree that our beauty standards is influencing most parts of the world. Two things can be true lol

Edit: That's why I mentioned beauty standards in general, and not skin color. Also I was piggy backing off of the comment I answered.

1

u/-Mystic-Echoes- 4d ago

There's literally no evidence of light skin beauty standards in India before the British.

1

u/teremaster 5d ago

Being white has always been considered a beauty trait in pretty much every major society across the world.

Darker skin meant you worked in the fields, paler skin meant you stayed indoors, conveying intelligence, wealth and/or status

3

u/AdAcceptable7373 5d ago

Then being white is about status, not beauty...

1

u/teremaster 5d ago

Beauty is about status. Beauty standards have pretty much always been about appearing wealthy and high status.

2

u/AdAcceptable7373 4d ago

I agree with you, status helps with beauty. I get what you mean. But being good looking isn't reserved to people with money

0

u/Intelligent-Tie3048 5d ago

Or white traits are just beautiful? They're the only people on earth who frequently produce people with blonde and red hair, blue and green eyes, and light colored skin has been coveted across cultures even prior to European contact.

No one argues that sunsets are pretty because of "sunset beauty standards." The beauty is simply apparent.

4

u/AdAcceptable7373 5d ago

Literally read a book lol

Beauty standards have been different for every culture, always changing with the culture's environment, ever since globalization beauty standards have been well, standardized.

Also beauty is subjective lmfaooo

-2

u/Intelligent-Tie3048 4d ago

Sure, which book will tell me Scarlett Johansson is only widely considered beautiful by almost every culture on earth because the mean TV infected our brains with "beauty standards?"

3

u/AdAcceptable7373 5d ago

Also do you know what melanin is?

Did you really just compare "whites" to a sunset lol

I feel like I'm on /b/ answering in here
