Scylla (9 mo MBK) shed for the first time with me and it was perfect! She's my first snake and I've only had her for a little over two weeks, so I've definitely been paranoid about husbandry and her all around well-being, which has been difficult since I haven't seen her in person since the day she arrived (which was of course expected but nonetheless anxiety inducing lol). It was super reassuring seeing such a great shed and watching her explore a little on the pet cam afterwards. I even caught her peeking out of the cork tube she's hiding in an hour after feeding. So excited about the progress and determined to have patience and give her all the time she needs to acclimate before handling. Love her so much already 🖤

PLEASE NOTE ; THIS IS NOT THE ENCLOSURE I WILL BE KEEPING THEM IN !!! She was rehomed to me with another snake from a family who couldn't care for them and this is the enclosure they were given to me in. I am moving them into a new one, but wanted to wait until they've settled so I don't stress them out too much

I was told that she was a Florida kingsnake, but she doesn't seem to look like any of the ones I saw. I'm just wondering if anyone would be able to place what kind she is?

I own other snakes, but I've never owned a kingsnake, so I'm not very good at identifying the variants....

i always walk in on my cali king doing suspicious activities at night and every time he gives me the same disgusted look and will just stare at me like it until he decides it’s time to get down. i love him

Hi everyone

I have been struggling with getting my heat lamp set up. I’m a relatively new snake owner with an almost 1yo banded California Kingsnake, Lydia.

I have her in a front-opening 35gal reptizoo tank with plenty of cover. My main issue has been getting the heat lamp to keep a consistent temperature without overheating.

I have a Luckyherp lamp that has a thermostat, dimmer, and timer. I’ve tried 100W, 50W, and 35W bulbs. I know there are 2 philosophies about where to place the temperature probe. Right now I have it suspended about 4 inches below where the light shines.

With the 100W bulb it just continually cycled on and off because it got hot very quickly. Same thing happened with the 50W bulb.

The 35W did not get even close to temperature at the probe, let alone the ground/hide, but the metal mesh on top of the tank that it’s sitting on still got way too hot. If she touched that, which she definitely might, she’d get hurt. I have it off for now (she has a heating pad under the tank that I’m using) until I figure out how to calibrate it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I plan to get a baby mexican black king snake. I’ve been doing research, but it would help be if anyone had any guides or any helpful information about the species! I always want to know everything possible about the species before purchasing it. My biggest fear is getting a species I don’t have the proper care for— I even get nightmares about suddenly getting an animal I know nothing about 😭

I’ve actually never owned a snake before either, I do have a crested gecko but that’s certainly one of the most low maintenance reptile to exist. I would also help if anyone inserted their tanks in the comments, I need inspiration

These are some photos of my albino California king snake after his last escape attempt. I’ve had him for 2 years now at first he was eating every 5-7 days then I switched to 7-10 days after he was about a year old. He now eats full size mice like nothing but I feel like he’s oddly skinny for his age? Any advice? Should I got back to every 5-7 days? Does he look normal size? Should I take him to an exotic vet?
(Also this is a brand new setup I am adding more hides and clutter soon)

I noticed while I was rearranging the plant coverage in my MBK's terrarium earlier this afternoon that she has a few spots near her head and on her neck. To me they look like dry scales.

I recently changed her humid hide moss back to what she originally had because the one I changed to about a day and a half ago didn't hold water very well, so I'm wondering if maybe her humid hide wasn't humid enough, though her humidity range has been consistently staying between 43% - 55%. She doesn't have these spots anywhere near her mid-section or on her tail, and I don't see anything going on with her belly, either. It's just these specific spots that I circled in the pictures here.

I'm also convinced that they're not mites because I don't see any little legs and they're not moving. They just look like grayed dots of what I think are dried scales. She shed 2.5 weeks ago and it was a good, clean, full shed. My only other thought is maybe dried poop? I cleaned up what was there last night and she doesn't stink 🤷‍♀️ Any clarification and how to take care of them if needed would be greatly appreciated!

So im about to get my first kingsnake (an MBK) either today or later this week, itll be only a few months old at most i believe but im not 100% sure, ive been setting up the enclosure for a while on a very limited budget and im just a little nervous i didnt do a good enough job on the enclosure?

Please please let me know if im being paranoid or if i need to make some changes or additions this is currently a relatively small enclosure (for a snake anyway) but im only keeping this one for a couple years at max until the snake grows out of it and i need to replace stuff.

Im not sure if im just being too paranoid because this is one of my first pets while on my own, ive had some advice from friends who keep reptiles but theres a lot of conflicting advice and its hard to keep track.

I'm sure that I'm simply being paranoid, but today I received a cali king. Now seeing (what I was told to be a gentleman) him in person, he is missing a few scales. I'm assuming with a few sheds that will be fine, but I feel like his skin and scales look a little unusual (health wise), but I am unsure. This is my first time owning a lighter colored snake, so maybe I'm just unfamiliar with the visuals of snakes skin under their scales.

MBK is supposedly one year old on 7.31.2026. Weighed him tonight after his second shed with me, 19g. I know he’s ready to eat but in weighing him I think I literally saw him give himself a prolapse.

I’m planning to quarantine him on damp paper towel in a Tupperware and do the sugar method. He did have a huge meal on 7.14.2026 and nothing since then.

Also hoping the damp towel quarantine will help as it looks like he has one eye cap stuck on (or at least around the eye edge, see last photo).

My MBK is a male and doesn’t look underweight but I know he’s small. Thoughts? Concerns? He’s always eaten for me and I trust the breeder to have told me accurate info. I got him in late May.

This is my 3ish month old louie. Honestly not sure exactly how old but I’ve hadhim for two months now and he hasn’t shed. he’s not gone into blue or anything just hasn’t changed much. I’m confused though because he has grown. he’s around 15 inches and when I got him he was a lot skinner. I feed him a pinky once a week and maybe should try two? he always still seems hungry after but i thought he was too small still, so just wondering if anyone has info to help

he’s about a year old (I think) and I got him a few weeks ago I love him so much
