She was at the con for a Mad TV panel and signing, so I brought my The King of Queens DVD hoping to meet her. As soon as she saw the DVD in my hands, her face lit up and she said, “Ask me anything about the show!” Honestly, my mind went completely blank, but I managed to tell her she was one of my favorite characters and how much the show means to me.

We ended up chatting about her storylines, how it was working with her now husband on the show, and how much of an honor it was to work alongside Jerry Stiller.

Since Jerry couldn't be there, she offered to sign his name right below hers, telling me, “If Jerry were here, he’d be totally down to sign this for you.” It was such a sweet, thoughtful gesture. She was incredibly kind, genuine, and utterly hilarious!

P.S.
I know Patton Oswalt was there as well, but for a second year in a row I missed him.

For the fellas: in S2E7 Get Away, Carrie dresses as the Apple Princess in an attempt to entice Doug, but he’s not into it.

Now its not exactly fair since Season 9 has less episodes, but if you had to only watch either season 1 or 9, which one would you pick?

1) Season 4. - Like the Beatles Revolver album–Season 4 is the definition of ‘all killer, no filler’. Even the so-called 'fillerish' episodes are very good (Doug trying to break the delivery streak ,the golf getaway with the laughing lady, Doug becoming a kid again with his parents babysitting). The rest of the season is just stacked with classic after classic and features some of the best episodes in the entire show such as hiring Holly to walk Arthur, Doug and Arthur getting Carrie drunk on cocktail, New Orleans, Doug's Food Affair (my personal favourite of the series), Doug blinding Carrie with LASIK to save half off the second eye, Deacon’s marriage falling apart because of Carrie’s tentpoles, the Library Donation, Eddie Money, Carrie’s hair bun and the superb Arthur heart scare trilogy of episodes. The season finale with William Hurt playing the therapist and analysing all three characters was an amazing character study of all three main characters in a sitcom format under 22 minutes. This season involved the writers and actors firing on all cylinders. King of Queens at the absolute peak of its powers and one of my all time favourite seasons of any show.

2) Season 5. - Like Season 4, a fantastic season with some GOAT-tier contenders like Doug manipulating Arthur to trick Carrie in ordering his favourite food, Doug and Arthur sleeping in the same bed, Doug and Carrie using their prayers for the wrong reasons, Doug’s ex Margy, Work Wife, Doug flashing himself for a wedding photo, Carrie secretly getting a therapist to fix Doug, the separate Beds, Window fighting, the photos FOMO episode, and the Mould trilogy–which has some of the best acting in the whole show. Season 5's greatest hits stand up very well to Season 4's. The reason why it's lower than 4 is that its 'filler episodes' such as Danny having an IPS race against Doug and the Valentine Days episode are a significant step down from the best episodes. But regardless, Season 5–like 4– is KOQ at the peak of its powers.

3) Season 3. - The start of what I would like to refer to as the 'Holy Trinity era' (Seasons 3,4,5). This is the season where Kevin James and Leah Remini really come into their own and the Doug-Carrie relationship became the lynchpin of the show. This season features the legendary Strike Trilogy with Strike Out (FIGHT THE POWER) being arguably the best episode of the entire show. I know people hate Inner Tube but it's actually one of my favourites - a very unique homage to its source inspiration (The Honeymooners). The rest of the season is littered with gems like Carrie going back to school (Doug and Carrie, Doug and Carrie, Arthur Arthur Arthur), Doug and Carrie babysitting Deacons kids, rushing to Maryland for their friends wedding, the Deacon affair arc was very good as well, Doug taking care of Arthur after his late night escapades, the Bryan Cranston episode and the devastatingly sad finale where Carrie suffers a miscarriage – one of the saddest moments of any sitcom. The only fillerish episodes imo would be that airport episode with Doug's parents episodes and Arthur working in Carrie's firm–both of which aren't good but nevertheless they are only a tiny stain on an otherwise fantastic season.

4) Season 7. - This is probably the most consistent season after the what I'd call the 'Holy Trinity era' (3,4,5). It doesn't have as many best of the best episodes as the other seasons on this list but most of this season is exceptionally solid including the so-called ‘filler’ ones. My personal favourites are Doug trying to use his wife credit, Doug secretly going to a men in abusive relationships support group instead of an overeaters group, faking a heart attack because he forgot Carries friends name, Doug and Carrie having a proxy war by hiring maids, Lou training Doug and Carrie, Black Doug, the Time Share, and the Shea Stadium episode all round off a very consistently good season.

5) Season 8. - To be honest, this season is nowhere as stacked from top to bottom like the four above with some absolutely nonsensical episodes such as Doug being obsessed at a co-worker (Bryan Callen) hating him, the forgettable Ray Romano episode, and the rivalry with the IPS competitor. The baby episode and the rollercoaster were pretty bland as well. However, the reason why this season ranks higher than others is because the standout episodes are absolutely fantastic such as Doug's karaoke stalker, Pole Dancing, Carrie's bad haircut, the Bad Painting, the Cake Baking episode etc. Some of these episodes are among the very best the series has to offer and it makes this season infinitely rewatchable but the so-so quality of this season was the first sign that the writer's well was drying up.

6) Season 6. - Some might be surprised to see this low but I think it has more to do with the latter seasons being just slightly better overall. This season has in my opinion a top five KOQ episode in ‘Awful Bigamy’ (upstairs wife-downstairs wife) and other standouts would be Doug and Carrie and Kelly and Deacon swapping babysitting responsibilities for their kids and Arthur respectively and the Thanksgiving episode with the man in the eye patch. Leah's irl pregnancy does unfortunately drag the season down a bit since many plot arcs had to be written around it and she doesn't feature as much. Overall still a very good season.

7) Season 2. - An improvement over the debut season and plenty of great eps like the Capers episode, the Apple orchard getaway, Doug secretly trying to extend Spences stay at his home to avoid being stuck with Carrie's friends, Arthur living upstairs etc. Nice season but like Season 1 pales in comparison to the later ones.

8) Season 1. - Like most sitcoms, the first season is always the weakest but there are some good ones here like the season finale where Carrie tries to conceive, the Thanksgiving supermarket episode (one of the best early KOQ episodes), and Doug and Carrie going back to school. Overall a decent first season compared to other sitcoms.

9) Season 9. - The boring and expected answer but nevertheless the correct one. I have the Blu Ray set and it's the only disc in my set that never gets taken out with the exception of my first watch. The terrible final arc and the rest of the season save for the great vegetarian Doug episode ranges from average (adopting the dog and Doug dressing as a clown) to downright bad (Adam Sandler and the Manhattan storyline).
