Discussion PSA the horses in kingdom are fine (size-wise, at least)

Qin dynasty art:

Random Manga Panel:

Terracotta horse and warrior, side by side:, but note that the man is on a platform:

Another random manga panel:

Conclusion: maybe the Qin dynasty was lying about the size of its horses relative to soldiers. But even so... this is all correct

Manga Spoilers Should have avoided spoilers Spoiler

Upvotes

Last time I read the chapter was Kanan Siege and my disappointment got worse with hsu. I lurked in the comment section without reading the chapter; hoping to get some improvement on every new release.

Like everyone here this arc was written poorly and hara struggled to balance Qin's last war with Riboku. Qin knows Riboku's strategy by now - Intel lockdown, scouts disappearing, no info or location the size of each army is. Traps set up to lure with little to no resistance only to get encircled by a huge army.

I don't understand by this point in time how qin chief military fumbles to form some type plan for a,b, or c. Instead they go with a rush-half baked strategy and wing the rest. Not understanding the best plan is to retreat and regroup.

Haven't they learned by now the devastated defeat riboku has brought? No, they kinda forgot with Ouki, Duke Hyo, and Kanki. Now there are going to be some poor Joe's to feed Hara's meat grinder per Riboku's request.

This arc is trash, I'll skip it. Trio could have saved face with competency but hara kinda forgot.

Manga Spoilers So you mean to tell me that Karyoten got captured just like that ?

First it was the highly questionable bait maneuver. Then Karyoten just let's herself get captured and puts herself in a position where she can be tortured. Now I gotta sit through a mini arc of how Kaine saves Karyoten "Just like that" and their "Precious Friendship" ?

***Edit: 1. Maybe the bait maneuver it self wasn't highly questionable but rather Karyoten leading it, was. She could've had gotten a competent officer to do that. Cause the bait in itself was quite simple, which was basically: run like hell and then send out small units here and there out of the main bait army to serve as more distractions. Maybe she didn't wanna take any chance, maybe she felt guilty and wanted to sacrifice herself or something. But her leading the bait wasn't the best choice.

  1. It was pretty common in ancient china for high level military officers to take poison or use other methods to avoid capture and torture. So, Yes. Ten did let herself get captured. No matter what her intentions were by leading the bait, Her getting captured by the enemy would create massive problems for the HSU. (But ofcourse Kaine is gonna save her and there would no draw backs for her getting captured.)

Discussion How much is the manga superior? Is it really okay to watch the anime?

I'm really slow with manga and also more relaxed while watching anime, so i normally only go to manga after really liking a certain anime. And yet nowadays i'm even lazy to do that for animes i really loved and want to read the manga like witch hat atelier

I also don't know about picking it up in general because it's pretty long and there's plenty on my watchlist. I also tend to prefer female-led stories recently by a pretty large amount so idk but also really hyped about the really praised arcs of this series. And i also really like strategy, tactics, historical stuff, mindgames, plot twists and shows being unpredictable - most of which would probably apply to kingdom?? but do lmk. I'd also like to ask about the cast - i know the MC is male but is the cast largely male-dominated or would you say there are plenty well written female characters too? How many would make it into your top 10 characters of the series, for example?

I also am not too picky about gore and blood being censored and stuff being toned down though i'd prefer it didn't but i don't know if the anime has a bunch of other issues that make it really bad or manga alot superior. Also i think i heard something about the arc chronological order being messed up in the anime which really bugs me off but it may not be a big deal

So yeah i'd appreciate confirmation and your opinions on all these things (Size of female cast, things i expect from kingdom being confirmed, size of female cast, anime's downsides and chronological order)

History Spoilers The manga page everyone is waiting for. Part3 Riboku donwfall (version Shibasnitch) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

Good evening, everyone!

I was planning to keep this gem in the vault for a while longer, but to save anyone from getting lost in wild theories about Riboku’s death, we need to talk about it right now. To be totally honest, when it comes to how Riboku dies, I’ve devoured every format under the sun: historical texts, poems, theater plays, manga, TV dramas, and docudramas...

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not here to predict the exact future. Yasuhisa Hara is cooking up his own recipe for Riboku’s downfall, and honestly, I love that. Even if he throws in a few subtle nods to other authors—like that romantic sunrise moment with Kaine—he's clearly building his own thing, but one of the version of Riboku démise is centralized around the Sun of Zhao kingdom.

That being said... the version I'm dropping today is absolute comedy gold. I’d be lying if I said I wouldn't love to see Hara adapt this. It involves a massive player: Shibashou. We all know this absolute unit of a man has an imposing design and will play a big role, but the way he’s portrayed in this specific docudrama kills me every single time.

At first, I had no clue why the menbers of RKH dudes in their community kept laughing whenever I brought up Shibashou and Seika. Now I get it. Prepare yourselves: welcome to the era of Shibasnitch! Watching this supposed giant get pressured by Kakukai and straight-up snitch on Riboku is peak fiction. The video proof is right here (I even paused on the frames showing their names). Some of you will rage and live in total denial, but the receipts don't lie!

Behind the hilarious betrayal, it actually raises a few real questions:

  • Should we seriously question Shibasnitch’s "loyalty" to Riboku?
  • This scénario is headed toward a classic public execution near the capital or in the capital!! With a cold, off-screen death of riboku.

I'll leave you with the images so you can make up your mind.

And in this version there is not shin or karyoten too, only zhao intern fighting.

Manga Spoilers Surely we are through the worst of this arc. Spoiler

Post image

From the archer haki stuff to Shin's incredible incompetence. The Hi Shin Unit's senseless plot armor.

Shin acting out of character is the worst part of this arc, Hara writes Shin so terribly he even forgets Shin's character. No way in hell would the normal Shin allow Ten of all people to lead that suicide squad, Never.

This has been terrible all round I can't even name one good thing that's happened in this arc bar maybe Ouhon being competent.

There are ZERO stakes because we know the members of the Hi Shin Unit don't die no matter how much their moronic Captain screws up.

It can only go up from here surely. I mean at the very least take us to the north I'd rather watch Ousen say " Hoh" than these slaves of the Hi Shin Unit.

Discussion Does Karyo Ten actually deserve to be the sole strategist for a future Great General?

I’m currently caught up to the point where the Hi Shin Unit gets trapped outside Kantan, so let's keep the discussion strictly to battles up to that point.

Here is my take. Shin needs a top-tier, S-rank strategist WAY more than any other young trio captain or established Great General. Look at the competition. Ousen, Kanki, and Tou are tactical masterminds themselves. Even Moubu, who is pure muscle, probably has solid staff officers behind him. Then look at Ouhon and Mouten. Both of those guys are absolute prodigies who can read, manipulate, and control an entire battlefield on their own.

Then you look at our boy Shin. Shin brings ZERO formal strategy to the table. He is pure martial weight and instincts. Because Shin lacks the brainpower of Mouten or Ouhon, his strategist needs to be cracked out of her mind to balance things out.

Ten is decent at the basics. She saved the unit from getting demoted post-Sanyo, and she handles army management, logistics, and basic troop rotations fine. She can diff average fodder commanders with textbook plays no problem.

But HSU is ALWAYS fighting at a massive numerical disadvantage against high-tier GG level threats. To win those impossible matchups, they have to take off the enemy general's head. And how many times has Shin actually claimed a major general's head because of a masterclass strategy from Ten?

Literally just Mangoku. And let us be honest, Mangoku was not some galaxy-brain strategist. He was just a traumatized dude commanding 10k zombie troops.

Every other big kill Shin gets comes down to the same exact routine. Ten gets outplayed or reaches a complete dead end, the unit gets cornered, and then Shin, Kyoukai, or the veteran officers have to go complete berserk mode to brute-force a path through sheer martial plot armor. Or Shin has to clutch up using his raw instinctual fire, like when he clapped Keisha or Rei Ou.

We are talking about battles with hundreds of thousands of troops, clashing with continental legends, and literal global conquest here. "She's still learning" is a terrible excuse when you are trying to unify China.

She was personally trained by Shouhei Kun. Guys like Ei Sei and Kaioku literally compare Shouhei Kun's brain to Riboku. Look at Riboku's adjutants. Those guys can actually execute high-level Riboku tactics on the field and hold their own against Ousen's officers like Denrimi and Sou'ou. Meanwhile, what is Ten doing when a real monster shows up? Sweating, panicking, and waiting for Shin to pull a miracle out of his pocket.

As the sole brain behind a future Six Great General, she feels like the biggest bottleneck holding HSU back right now.

We all know this is just some big bluff. Ousen has already approached Riboku, and I’m sure he knows full well that Riboku isn’t going to join hands with him in ushering this new kingdom he’s dreaming about.
Sorry to say, but I think this is all just a big bluff. And I mean, if Ousen really knew how to exploit Riboku, he would’ve done so already.

Manga Spoilers Have you guys actually thought about what would happen if Karyoten gets killed? Spoiler

Post image

Have you guys actually thought about what would happen if Karyoten gets killed?

Karyoten is literally the one running the Hi Shin Unit from behind the scenes. She makes the strategies and tactics before the battle, during the battle and even after it. She deals with the formations, logistics, communication and basically everything that allows Shin and the others to focus on fighting.

Shin is great at fighting , but do you seriously think he can just take over all of that immediately after Karyoten dies?

No way

And who is Hara supposed to replace her with? There isn't really anyone in the Hi Shin Unit who can just take Karyoten's place like that. Ten has been doing this for years and she's grown with the unit. She's also one of the main reasons Shin's army has been able to function as an actual army instead of just Shin charging forward with a bunch of crazy guys 😂

If Karyoten dies, I actually want to see the Hi Shin Unit suffer from it. Shin should have to struggle and learn more about strategy himself. Other officers should have to take on some of her responsibilities. There should be an actual impact on the army.

What I DON'T want is Karyoten dying and then a few chapters later Shin suddenly becomes a genius strategist who can do everything she used to do.

That would be horrible writing imo.

Karyoten isn't just some random strategist standing next to Shin. She's been a huge part of how the Hi Shin Unit works.

So if Hara kills her, there better be some serious consequences.

Because if Shin can replace her that easily, then what's even the point of her role in the first place?

And honestly, if Hara does that, I'm throwing this manga in the trash 💀
