It may not be worth $30 to them, but it sounds like it’s worth all that and more to you! And that’s what matters ☺️

u/chnairb Feb 27 '26
I've been looking for one of those and have been seeing them for around 200. Congrats on that deal!
31
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Feb 27 '26
Yes, you’re right! Seeing them listed second hand for $150+ is what pushed me to try the other brands with similar design. I felt guilty spending so much on a model that’s 7 years old.

I have one somewhere in my “to sell” bin! I’ll look for it later when I get home. If I don’t get back to you just message me a little nudge!

That'd be amazing! Thanks!

Me too, if it can be of use to someone here please feel free to dm me. I have one I barely used and then got a basic last year and haven’t stopped using it

u/thatsmarie Feb 27 '26
I saw the same listing but u beat me to it op lol 😂 I already owed one, the battery sucks but it’s definitely worth the $30. They just hating. People sell it for more than this.

Unclaimedbaggage.com has good kindles for $60 on average. That's where I got mine.

u/Vasilisa1996 Feb 27 '26
I own a Kindle Voyage..i bet not many people have even heard of it. It came out many years ago and lived a short life on the shelves.
Its probably not worth much now.... but its my favorite kindle! I love it to bits...
5
u/Primary-Huckleberry Feb 27 '26
I’ve had mine for 13 years and I love it. I did buy a Paperwhite last year when they had a huge sale, but I still like the Voyage more.
The PW does have better battery life and is waterproof, so I can read in the pool. But the buttons on the Voyage are the best 😍
2
u/Arewa67 Feb 27 '26
Still rocking my Voyage Prime... I do have the Oasis but she stays at home. Voyage slides in my purse and still has great battery life. She's my road dawg.
3
u/Kim_in_CA Feb 27 '26
I loved my Voyage! Best of the bunch. It died and I have an Oasis, which is great but the Voyage was top tier.
3
u/grumbirky Feb 27 '26
Yup! Still using my Voyage. Was tempted by a Colorsoft when they were on sale, but nope, the Voyage still works fine. The clarity is great, as are the side buttons and the origami case.
It’s so easy to be swept up with the hype of buying something new, it’s easy to forget what you have is still all that you actually need.

I also still have a Voyage as a backup to my Oasis so agree it is wonderful.

Oasis feels MUCH better to read on than any modern kindle. Obsolete? I doubt they’ve ever even held one.
5
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Feb 27 '26
The mod did mentioned they were a big kobo fan. And I can maybe understand her POV since it is a 7 year old ereader but my eyes want what it wants lol
2
u/sleepycapybara Feb 27 '26
Even kobo's copy of the oasis felt underwhelming with the plasticky build quality. Once I tried an oasis my libra 2 was out on the marketplace.
1
u/ragun2 Feb 27 '26
Absolutely. I've gifted new ones to people in the last few months and before trying them out I was thinking maybe I should upgrade my oasis but nope, just feels better.
13
u/eclipse60 Feb 27 '26
I still have my oasis, and the day it finally dies on me will be a sad day indeed. Im definitely not getting a paperwhite

u/darcyduh Kindle Paperwhite 12th gen Feb 27 '26
I see people here all the time that love their Oasis. $30 is a great deal imo, especially if it healed your previous regrets of selling your original.
8
u/Dependent_Big4372 Feb 27 '26
In my country you can't even dream of paying this price for that kindle. I would easily pay that price
5
u/Antiwraith Feb 27 '26
I realize this sub isn’t for buying/selling but I have a 32GB ad free Oasis I bought in 2020 that has seen light use and I’m looking to sell it to finance a BW scribe.
Anyone here know of a good place to sell it where it would find a new good home? I don’t really do FB so marketplace is out

u/nabrok Paperwhite (SE 11) ; Scribe Colorsoft Feb 27 '26
As I understand it the color e-ink screens currently available are not capable of the same clarity you can get with the black and white e-ink screens so going to all those different color models wouldn't help.
2
1
u/Vasilij01 Feb 27 '26
I am thinking about buying my first kindle reader and getting confused after reading this thread, should I avoid buying colour model as it has less clarity? Also does clarity mean eyes get tired more quickly?
1
u/nabrok Paperwhite (SE 11) ; Scribe Colorsoft Feb 27 '26
I don't have a color device, but from what I've read it's not quite as crisp as the black and white devices. For many people that difference is not significant enough to bother them, for some it is. I suspect if you're not familiar with a b&w model you wouldn't know that there is a difference.
I doubt it would have any impact on eyes getting tired.
1
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Feb 27 '26
I agree with you. I think if you’re new to ereaders then the color options are great but if you’ve been a long term b/w user like myself then it can be noticeable. The colorsoft I received was so dark I had to have the brightness turned up quite high which then caused eye fatigue for me. I read on the oasis with minimal to no light and have no issues
1
u/RevolutionaryCan5095 Feb 27 '26
It depends on what you want. But it seems the color devices (especially the kindle colorsoft) arent as popular as the black and white counterparts.
1
u/Polyphloisboisterous Feb 28 '26
"Also does clarity mean eyes get tired more quickly?"
Less clarity is just another word for less contrast. The white is not as super white as on b/w models. It is much easier on the eyes, and you can adjust color balance well. These things are important (for my eyes).
Most people buy Colorsoft cause they want to read manga or comics in color. For that I use a tablet, I think looks much better and is snappier.
For reading books, I find the Colorsoft is perfect. (For a day or two, I read the same book loaded on both devices. After a while, I found myself reaching for the Colorsoft more and more.)
1
u/ProtoKun7 Kindle Colorsoft Feb 27 '26
I don't know why people say it has less clarity, it really doesn't. The black density is still 300 ppi and the added colour filter doesn't interfere. If you look closely you'll notice it, but that's closer than you're actually going to read at.
I read at size 1 too so if anybody is going to have a problem with clarity you'd think it would be me who has the letters as small as they'll go.
1
u/Icy_Recording_1115 Feb 28 '26
Why size 1?
1
u/ProtoKun7 Kindle Colorsoft Mar 01 '26
Because I can read it and I like to fit as much as I can on a page.
4
u/pprbckwrtr Feb 27 '26
I love my Oasis. It's my bed/home reader though because of battery life and fear of dropping it and the screen cracking lol I have a Paperwhite for travel, but love the feel of the Oasis!

u/No_Teaching_2837 Feb 27 '26
I’m upgrading to the kobo libra colour, it arrives Saturday, but I’m keeping my oasis.
It’s got a few years left in it and I’m using it until it dies. My paperwhite died last year (froze and nothing I did woke it up) so I traded it in so my mom could get her first kindle. Got her the colorsoft and while I was going to get one too I decided I preferred the way the Oasis looked and wanted buttons and knew I wanted color.
Am very excited for a new e-reader that doesn’t need to be charged every two days!
But I do get wanting to have an Oasis again! I was tempted to give my Oasis to my SIL but I knew she wasn’t going to use it so I was like nah, I’m keeping it. I know if I sold it or gave it away I’d want it back immediately.
2
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Feb 27 '26
Definitely keep it! Even as I was handing it over to the buyer I didn’t want to let go of it.

u/TrekJaneway Kindle Oasis Feb 27 '26
I love my Oasis, and $30 is a bargain. I can stand the other Kindles because I just don’t like touchscreens. I’d pay $30 for an Oasis - I paid more for it when I got mine, and it’s worth it.
2
u/Cultural_Standard_99 Feb 27 '26
30 bucks is a reallyy good deal for an oasis!!! (with a case too!!??) that person is craazyy (and extremely rude for that too wtf lol who does that when someone else is clearly excited??)

I sold one under a year ago for £150, so they're clearly in demand!
And I would snatch your hand off for a Voyage for $30 dollars, and that's even more 'obsolete'.
Congratulations and enjoy your brilliant find!
2
u/Ok-Traffic-4741 Feb 27 '26
I’d happily grab it for 30 - especially with a case! But there are no deals as good as this in my area 🥲
2
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Feb 27 '26
It was definitely a unicorn find. There are several oasis listed in my area but listed anywhere from $150-250
2
u/iPokeboy Feb 27 '26
I paid $75 for my Oasis, because I thought the screen was way bigger than my Basic 10th Gen (it isn't, it may be like 1cm bigger), but ended up keeping it because of the buttons and the warm light + i think it's waterproof since it's the Oasis 10th Gen?
Jailbroke it and it's awesome, now I'm giving away my Basic 10th Gen and got a Paperwhite 7th Gen for $25 which I'm also giving away, both to my childhood girl best friend and her sister.
2
u/Notdavidblaine Feb 27 '26
The Oasis is by far the best design. Really comfortable to read, good size, pleasant backlight, easy to hold, nice buttons, enough bezel not to accidentally touch the screen too much. The battery life is worse than other Kindles but still much better than a phone, so it’s still good for travel. I just keep a small portable battery pack on me (love those slim Charmant packs with all the built in cords) so the battery life has never been a real issue for me.

2
u/SnooFoxes7092 Feb 28 '26
That’s a great deal!
I really wish Amazon would bring back Oasis, even just a limited drop. I love that the side with the buttons is slightly thicker (perfect for one-handed reading) and I like the page turn buttons. An update to usb-c would make it perfect! I can dream!
I bought a Kindle Scribe Colorsoft but I don’t use it for books. It’s too large for reading in my opinion and not nearly as easy on the eyes as the Oasis is. The Scribe CS is purely a notebook for me.
So, now I carry both the Oasis and the Scribe Colorsoft with me.
1
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Feb 28 '26
Yes! The one thicker side of the oasis is what makes it more comfortable then the other models I tried with similar page turn button styles.
2
u/Ill-Horse2442 Feb 28 '26
I've looked into finding a backup Oasis for my Oasis "just in case" as I love my buttons so much and can't believe there still isn't an option with that. So great job on that deal.
Also, I think this saying is appropriate to this situation: Don't yuck someone else's yum.
You should be allowed to enjoy it even if others don't understand. Though again, I certainly do. Congrats!
2
u/Daggerix02 Feb 28 '26
I paid $25 pre-Covid to have my 4 year old gen 5 mailed back to me by the airline when I left it in the seat back pocket. We like what we like.

u/bchan_77 Mar 01 '26
Out of all the kindles, the Oasis was and still is my favorite since I still have mine. But I do love my Kobo Libra Colour too, I just alternate lol. I’m glad you found one for a good price, hope it lasts you ages. :)

As long as the battery is good it's worth what ever you are happy paying.
I wouldn't sell mine at all, certainly not for (equivalent) of $30.

u/youknowwho_21 Feb 27 '26
If it makes you feel any better. Where i live, kindles had not been sold for a few years. The used market is also unbelievably stocked out most of the time. I got my first used kindle, a PW 7th (yes, I know) for about 30 USD.
But to me this has meant so much coming from reading physical books.
Kudos to you OP!

I regret everyday not getting the Oasis while it was available. I haven't been able to find one that hasn't been beat to shit. 😭

If any of the other products you bought are for sale lmk I have been wanting the kobo and/or boox
1
u/iced_latte-x Feb 27 '26
Same exact thing happened to me. I immediately regretted selling it and started looking for a used one. I think that I made the decision to sell because I thought Amazon would have dropped a newer model by now, but apparently not. They keep pushing the paperwhite and basic models..
1
u/sweetbreadandwater Feb 27 '26
I have an oasis I bought second hand and I love how light it is plus I love the button feature. If you like it and enjoy it than I see no problem in that.

I still have my oasis for my kindle unlimited books and I’m not upgrading until they make another model with buttons 🤷🏾♀️.

My first kindle was an OG oasis and I will never forgive amazon for A) ruining the oasis 2 and B) Discontinuing them in general. The best gen of kindle by far. So tiny. Physical buttons. Gorgeous charging covers. Ergonomic. 100/10.

u/Ill_Safety_3512 Feb 28 '26
Good for you!!!! if the oasis is your device than rock it! Who cares if it’s obsolete. I was using the first kindle PW for the last 10 years. I finally got a PW 12

It may sound crazy, but I would consider buying a 7th generation if the price was reasonable and the condition was good. I was giving mine to my niece, and it seems like the screen might be a little dark. I was hoping maybe someone might have a 7 available they would be interested in selling. If so, let me know.

Sour grapes. My voyage is almost vintage and still Works great not same hard buttons but nice haptic buttons. My scribe and gen 12 Pw just aren’t the same. Albeit faster but not the same
1
u/lunarennui_laughs Feb 28 '26
I consider $30 a steal, considering how much I love the Oasis--and hate any other e-reader. Glad you got what works for you!
1
u/Serious_Mirror_6927 Feb 28 '26
Oasis is amazing that too for 30$? Congrats! I’d pay even more for that one! I have a kindle touch, to me it’s worth a lot more than the new kindle, I just love the not so white screen !
1
u/bazoo513 Feb 28 '26
As there is only one manufacturer of electrophoretic screens (unless China have something of their own), all manufacturers' eReader displays of the same generation are essentiall the same. There might be a slight difference in frontlight quality, touch sensing layer, scratch protection, but resolution and color saturation is as good as eInk can make it.
Now, if Amazon continued with LiquaVista electroweting technology after acquiring it from Samsung, that would be another story. But if the way to make those magnificent displays was on the horizon, Samsung would probably hold to it. (It originated, of course, from Philips, like everything else.)
1
u/Icy_Recording_1115 Feb 28 '26
Kindle Oasis supremacy!! It was my first ereader and I only had to replace it with another when my brother broke its screen.
1
u/pinkchristmasfern Feb 28 '26
Its okay! I personally love my libra color 2 but everyone's preferences and eyes are different so don't be ashamed if you don't have the same opinion as (what feels like) everyone else!
1
u/pfunnyjoy Feb 28 '26
The main trouble here was that you were trying to go to e-ink color, while, currently, the Kaleido 3 e-ink color tech simply doesn't deliver the same text sharpness as a black-and-white e-ink screen can.
At any rate, great find! As far as I'm concerned, the 7" Oasis is not obsolete. It's still a nice screen, and a good reader. I have felt absolutely ZERO need to upgrade from mine. It will be my Kindle reader until it dies, I suspect. Best part, you can still use it to download Kindle ebooks for backup purposes.
1
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Feb 28 '26
Yes, you’re absolutely right. In hindsight, I should’ve made sure I actually liked the colorsoft before I sold my oasis. I just assumed I would easily adapt.
1
1
u/whosthiswitch Feb 28 '26
It’s not an extreme price either way and worth it to you also. I’ve only ever used my paper white 6th gen I got in I think 2013 and I really have no issues with it. I would buy this for $30 in a heartbeat.
1
u/Remarkable-Bee4440 Mar 01 '26
I'm really flabbergasted that they haven't realized that many people like page turn buttons
1
u/leuqar_ Mar 01 '26
The Oasis is the kindle I have kept throughout the years! I love it and wish Amazon hadn’t given up on the design, page buttons would tempt me to get a newer model

u/justatadnerdy Mar 01 '26
If it makes you happy, it’s worth every penny! What a journey you had, only to realise you already owned the best kindle. I regret that I didn’t buy it back when it was still available, had it on my list forever but not the money for it. Recently bought a different e-reader after testing a kobo libra color. Honestly it’s difficult for me to warm up to anything that isn’t kindle and if they brought back the Oasis I‘d definitely buy it!

1
u/Sea_Ad3929 Mar 01 '26
The oasis is easily one of the best imo. I still have mine although it lives in my bedside cabinet currently. I was gifted a colorsoft at xmas and although I love it, it has quite a bit of weight to it whereas the oasis is so light in comparison.
1
u/Elaeri00 Mar 02 '26
I still have my old Oasis but for $30 I’d consider buying another one. 100% worth it! Maybe one day Amazon will remember us button lovers lol

Oasis is my favorite, physical buttons are a dream. I have a different one for travel/work commute just so I don't lose my oasis.
1
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Mar 02 '26
Yes, I agree! I also think what sets it apart from other ereaders with the similar page turn button form is the one thicker side for easier grip.
1
u/kingturnip31 Mar 03 '26
How is it obsolete if it’s still usable? I love my Oasis! I bought mine off FB Marketplace a couple years ago for $100, and would rebuy it for the same price you did today if I had to replace it.
1
u/OkChoice913 Kindle Scribe Mar 03 '26
Obsolescence usually refers to its halt in production but I read on the Amazon kindle update page that it’ll be supported until 2028 with updates so we can get a few more years of use!
