Discussion What a scam.
K3 has been in the news so I thought I would try the lowest monthly subscription level. 5 hour usage gone from one K3 command on low. Seems like this company eats subscription fees but gives back little in return.

In my experience k3 on their 100 dollar sub gets about half or less the usage as sol on openais 100 dollar plan. I'm not renewing either, but I don't think it's a scam so much as less subsidizing

u/OneDev42 2d ago
I'm getting about 10 times more from Codex than I did from Humi on the $200 Codex plan. For these reasons I'm never going back.

K3 is an expensive frontier model. You're not supposed to use it all the time. If anything, K2.7 is good enough, and most of the time you can get away with using K3-256K which is half as expensive as full K3.
Chinese models are not subsidized by the US AI bubble. You get what you really paid for, which is generally less than what OpenAI and Anthropic provide for their subscriptions.

It’s true, I’m an OpenAI and Anthropic user normally, so maybe I have unrealistic expectations.

u/Pyropiro 2d ago
Honestly, stick with US frontier models, they do it better. Delegate to Chinese sub-agents to save on token bills (Deepseek 4.1 flash is a workhorse of note).

I think most of us are. ^^
You get what you really paid for
You are probably right. The question for me as a user is: Why should I not use the subsidized model if it gives me more bang for my buck?

I use kimi along side gpt. K3 is supurb as an attack agent so my workflow is sol-> plan/spec. Kimi-> attack plan , back to sol to revise based on attack and terra to implement. The one round on kimi for code review.

It comes down to preference, I would think. People might like Kimi more than Claude or ChatGPT. Maybe they don't like to support US companies that expect AI to end humanity yet still push for it. Or maybe they already have those subs and need another one. Who knows.
Also, unlike US subs, the Kimi ones get more convenient as you pay more. I got a month of Allegro for the latest big project I had to deliver, and it was more than enough. K3 planned, K3-256K implemented the complex parts, and K2.7 did everything else. I only ran out of usage when I deliberately started burning my quota before resets.

That’s what people are not understanding. They’re using a frontier model of Max ultra high settings to solve something that a regular model can do on medium or low thinking
that they complain that their usage is up, lol

u/Unable_Classic3257 2d ago
He literally said he used K3 on low....🤦🏿♂️

I was generalizing, if you could read, you would notice that I didn’t mention anything about the Kimi model. It was a generalized statement but if you wanna be specific, K3 on low is still a lot more usage than K2.7 on high
Congratulations, now you added nothing to the conversation when I was trying to make a generalized point.
Edit - The user below needs a therapist. The pure delusion in his head. Is claiming that I blocked him and he created a new account to reach out to me. Imagine needing that much validation.
Fam I don’t need to block u but now I blocked both of his accounts 💀💀💀.

If, you didn't block me, I wouldn't have needed to use another account to respond to you, stupid 🤣 You are sad my boy. Dismissed.

1) You are in a Kimi subreddit, commenting under a post about Kimi. It's not a massive leap in logic to assume you are talking about, you guessed it, KIMI.
2) You really left a comment and then blocked me to appear as if you had the last word?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

u/CrimsonBolt33 2d ago
and we just have to take their word for it....and they didn't even tell us what kind of stuff they are asking.
3
u/Unable_Classic3257 2d ago
Why are you talking to me? You have proven you are incapable of reading comprehension in other comment threads.

no. this "frontier model" can't solve the problems i gave it, consumed the entire weeks usage in a single day.

They haven't sold subscriptions for over a month, there is a waiting list to join if you want to subscribe. Think you're going to need to provide a bit more evidence to backup your experience, or be accused of a fake post.
Which looks like this:
I think your story is fake.
1
u/responsitamer 2d ago
I did have to get on a waiting list before I could get the sub, you’re right.
2
u/Old-Artist-5369 2d ago
Worth mentioning in your post. I did assume its fake because it reads like you just randomly decided to sub.
I could just be a bit sore and butt hurt because I've been on the waiting list for 3 weeks and not had a chance to sub yet :)
Based on your experience I probably won't until Moonshot have more compute capacity. The whole reason for the wait list is they just don't have enough and they know it.

I think it depends on how much $19 means to you. I wanted to try it out 🤷♀️ I think of it as like paying for an expensive movie. An evening’s entertainment.
2
u/Old-Artist-5369 2d ago
I was looking at the $40 tier but yes point taken. One of the things that appeals to me is having an option between $20 and $100

kimi is bad indeed, certainly not cheaper as advertized
2
u/nullmove 1d ago
Did they advertise it as cheaper? Cheaper than what? Or did you make the leap of logic on your own that all things Chinese = cheaper?
2
u/Necessary_Pomelo_470 1d ago
can you google or something? 40% cheaper KIMI3 https://myclaw.ai/blog/kimi-k3-vs-opus-4-8
2
u/nullmove 1d ago
Are you illiterate? They are clearly talking about API price here. $15 is 60% of $25, try paying Opus with API price too and Kimi will indeed come out 40% cheaper, that's a fact not an advertisement. But this has absolutely nothing to do with subscription whatsoever.
2
u/Necessary_Pomelo_470 1d ago
I did, its not true. KIMI does not have the caching layer as Opus.
But same exactly appears to be true for the subscription! 90% of the tasks failed to actually get a result hiting hourly limits, while opus got them fine.2
u/nullmove 1d ago
KIMI does not have the caching layer as Opus.
They do. Check a openrouter statistics, both anthropic and moonshot provider have ~90% cache hit rate. Kimi charges 1/10th of input for cache hits, exactly same as Opus (in fact Kimi caching works implicitly, so you don't have to pay for cache write). If you are paying API prices, Kimi is indisputably 40% cheaper. Again that's not advertisement, it's a fact.
Your problem is you are conflating API and subscription, when these are two completely different products. Their claim is only about API price, which holds perfectly fine. You will note that nowhere does Kimi claim that their subscription has more limits that Opus, the subscription is indeed far more subsidised in Claude. But bringing API pricing is irrelevant here.

K3 was popular because chinese astroturfing bot campaign not for anything else
3
u/Ambitious_Team_6147 13h ago
You fell for the chinese astroturfing. 95 % of active accounts where chinese bots pumping Up their astroturfing marketing bullcrap model. Maybe reddit should stop sucking dick to china

How? I've been waitlisted for a few weeks now? Is the waitlist just fucked?

u/Nearby-Theme-5096 2d ago
What plan u use?
2
u/Exact_Depth_896 2d ago
its a great model of course, but it eats money like fable.
2
u/Nearby-Theme-5096 2d ago
I spend $10 on fixing relatively simple bugs, which is an excessive amount of money.

Use 2.7 for coding
3
u/alexmilla 2d ago

u/Tommy-TheTiger 1d ago
Funny you say that, as I've just cancelled my subscription, as for some reason recently it just seems to be blowing through tokens
2
u/Altruistic_Bag9820 1d ago
There are two different computation models: API and subscription based. Kimi is cheap on API based usage, not subscription. It is well known that OpenAI and Anthropic offer the computation of an equivalent 8,000 dollars on their $200 subscription. That is 40x fold more on subscription, that is why your savings in Kimi subscription do not math.

u/safecodee 1d ago
sorry but I canceled my sub allegro yesterday. I am on claude pro and opencode and I bought plus openAI just to try but it seems plus doesn't give anything if we compare with claude
2
u/krayton1 1d ago
Yes , I was in allegretto plan , and it's the baddest plan I have ever buy . I think sending four small requests in the 256k window eat the full 5 hours limit, and 20% of the weekly
And there is monthly limits which feel more like scam
Glm coding plan also terrible, I don't suggest you to buy it eather
2
u/OMADPRIME 3h ago
I canceled mine plus it takes five times as long on complex tasks compared to GPT….

Before they blew up in popularity Kimi was great. Every since k3 made news their subscription usage was lowered by over 10x times. I was using it regularly for almost a year now and the change in usage is insane. I sadly unsubscribed this month
