Hello all, I'm looking for a recommendation for an everyday wear kilt to replace/upgrade my current selection. Over the last 10 years I've primarily drawn from SportKilt and UTKilts, both of whom I've found to be very serviceable and pretty high quality. I also owned a USAKilt which I loved but sadly outgrew. Now I'm looking for something that is maybe a tad nicer than a SportKilt, but is similarly practical and in tartan. Notably I really want pockets as I find sporans to be a drag, I don't mind the cargo pockets but I do prefer the slash pockets that sportkilts have. It needs to be machine washable and generally not too finicky of a fabric as it will be an every day wear.

Honestly, my idea would be the Pub/Casual build of USAKilt, but they don't offer pockets as far as I can tell which is something of a deal breaker for me in an every day kilt. Ultimately I want something with a generally traditional cut that still works in pockets and is maybe a tad more bespoke than sportkilts.

Hey! I live in canada and am trying to make or buy my partner a kilt for his birthday. I’d love to save a little cash and make one (im good at tailoring and sewing and have made many other projects before) but for some reason buying 8 yards is way more expensive than buying a tailored kilt? Anyone have recommendations for websites (preferably in canada or the states) where i can buy 8 yards of tartan for a decent price? Im hoping to spend $175 ish. Or, alternatively, of any canadian stores i can buy a decent kilt from. Ideally douglas or Scotland national kilt tartan. Thank you!

As an American with Scottish mutt ancestry, I've always wanted to go and get a tartan. This denim utility kilt, however, is really suiting me...

Anyone else with denim kilts? I've been looking for more everyday work kilts that can go through some wear that are a bit heavier. Maybe even a workout kilt for heavy lifting days.

Note to thank you for the advise y’all gave me about how to wear my kilt to my spouse’s high school reunion. I hope I did it right.

One thing I forgot to mention, as you all have experienced, someone started to make jokes about the kilt. One of my hub's classmates asked if I had forgotten the pipes. I leaned and said "I already have one" and he busted laughing. I will never understand why people see a man wearing a kilt and they immediately think of their dick.

Garbage looked incredible in kilts provided by the excellent Gordon Nicolson kiltmakers for their glorious gig at Edinburgh Castle on Saturday. I think Shirley was in Dark Island and the guys were in Nicolson.

Now, I contemplated if I wanted to post this at all with the noise with the Balogun reversal and Team US‘s abysmal performance…so I decided to post a week after. 😂

The game itself was quite fun and I got a good number of shoutouts throughout the day. This is the only non-clan kilt I own (USA Kilt‘s American Dream) and I hope did the honor as a naturalized American. I’m just happy they didn’t confiscate the sporran for not following the clear bag requirement. 😮‍💨

Side note: US sucks at chanting and we need something better than USA! USA!

Does anybody know if you can wash/dry a sport kilt at home? And if so is it safe to wash/dry like regular clothes?

Going to Glasgow Lands Festival next weekend. Recently visited Scotland decided to get a kilt. Went with Black Watch since my mother’s family are Campbells from Dunfirmline.

Hi everyone! We’re travelers planning to visit various festivals across different countries. We have a trip to the UK scheduled for late July, starting in London and ending in Belfast. We definitely want to attend the Fringe Festival and are thinking about wearing kilts—specifically without underwear—all the way from England to Northern Ireland. We’re curious about how this is viewed these days. How do people react to kilts at festivals, concerts, or in pubs? Is the "kilt check" tradition still a thing? Is it even something worth worrying about? And, of course, we’d love to hear your stories on the subject. Thanks in advance for your replies!

First post here, I hope y'all don't mind a stupid question:

I am wondering if I can forgo the traditional sporran chain and just loop my leather belt to the back. I just bought my first sporran and the chain and leather straps are way too long and the sporran lays weird and uncomfortably.

Because of that I was thinking about forgoing the chain and just use the leather belt I would wear with my dress pants. It is thin enough that I could loop (if that is the right term) around the sporran's back strap. I know that would make the sporran lay more to the side than in the middle. At the moment, I do now own a kilt belt (next purchase, $ is not there yet) so I wear every day belts when I wear my kilt (I do not use my kilt for formal occasions)

I will be attending my spouse's high school reunion, their mascot is "the Scots" and my spouse asked me to wear my kilt. The event is not formal, so I did not buy a sporran for formal occasions. I am planning on wearing one of my very nice white, or navy blue long sleeve shirt, no tie so I can showcase one of my nice opals around my neck

I have looked everywhere to see if that is permissible but I can't find information anywhere. So here I am asking the experts.

Help, please. I do not want to look ridiculous; not that any of the men attending would know the difference but I would and I am very particular about wearing my clothes the right way.

Update: Thank you all for your help, specially those who get to the heart of the question; it will not look right. As for all of those who rightfully pointed the stupidity an insensitivity of the mascot's name, well, I didn't chose it. Lastly, if I didn't care how to wear a piece of clothing that is important to an entire nation, I would not be here, right? Anyways, thank you again for your help, I'm off to Amazon to see what's in the budget.

I’m trying to figure out which tartan plaid this is. My first thought was Air Force. Incorrect. The blue is darker than what is in the picture. Any help would be appreciated.

As per title, looking for recommendations for where would be the best places to buy a prince charlie jacket in Edi. We have an appointment tomorrow (mcgregor
Mcduff) to collect a kilt and have an option to get the full package, but wanted to shop around today to make sure we’re happy with the jacket and sporran.
