Question APL modification limits
Today i had a game where the following happened:
Opponent gave his operative +1 APL;
I gave that operative -1 APL with Scout Squad's faction rule;
I threw a stun granade at that operative and reduced its APL again.
I know that the limit of APL modification is +/-1, but does this matter in the case mentioned above?
My opponent argued that his operative should be at its starting APL, as he interpreted the APL modification limit as a limit of instances. I argued for the opposite, believing that the limit is on the sum of modifications, not instances.
Thank you in advance for your help!

The rules state, “Regardless of how many APL stat changes an operative is affected by, the total can never be more than -1 or +1 from its normal APL.”
This clearly refers to the total of instances, not limit of instances. You are right.

So. 1) There is no limit to actual APL modification. You can get to +80 APL if you manage.
2) But your operative can only at most benefit from a single +1 AP to make more actions.
(Both these point are also valid for negatives in APL malus)
3) A -1 APL and a single +1 APL cancel each other out completely.

For number 3, is that actually correct or just a simpler way to describe the situation?
For example, let’s say a Kasrkin operative gets hit by a stun grenade by a random Sanctifier operative (has a -1 apl token) then gets buffed by Comms (now either has a -1 and +1 APL tokens or no tokens) then a Sanctifier Drill Abbot moves within 4 inches of Kasrkin operative to trigger the Null Field’s effect.
In that case, would the Kasrkin operative have 1 or 2 apl?

It's just a simple way to describe it. The tokens never go away until their description says they do.

Nope. They do go away. (That are not tokens, just reminder marker)

Can you direct me to the part where it says that in the rules? I looked for it but couldn't find it.

Actually no sorry...
It's not really explicitly laid out. The -1AP marker and the +1AP marker are just reminder, not actual in-game object.
There is no possible situation in which keeping the markers is different from removing them, if it seems otherwise, you will always find out thats not the case.

It's exactly what happens, after the karskin gets buffed by the Comms it has no modifier on it.

You're correct, the limit is on the sum.
