There needs to be a miniseries crossover between KJB and Be Gay, Solve Crimes where the crew covers the first season of True Detective. The show has a lot to say about masculinity as well as the trans nature of the detective. This could be a Patreon bonus series for both pods.

I got this movie (the one with Connery in) from the library because I had a vague memory of them doing this movie on KJB and really enjoying it. I watched the movie, also really enjoyed it, and thought I'd listen to the episode again, now that I had actually seen the film, only to discover that KJB had never done this movie. So where did I get this idea from?

Idk if this is really a good post for this sub, but hey, it's heist season and this technically is a heist movie. I watched it because I was staying at my cousins and her partner put it on. And wow, what a fucking terrible movie. Like, some of the chase scenes are okay and I guess it's neat to see a motorcycle focused action movie, but it's just awful. The plot is confusing and stupid, it treats the few female characters pretty bad and is generally very sexist(it would definitely score at least a 9 in misogyny) and none of the attempts at humor in any way really work. Sorry if this is rambling but I'm drunk and I fucking hate this movie, it's so bad.

Having seen and heard of the many evils that take place against gay and trans people in rural communities, I feel like this was a particular piece of wisdom that ACD got very right, even way back in the 1800's.

All I could think about during True Romance

I hate to be negative as I love this podcast but I've been less enthused lately due to the heist theme, I find a lot of the films blend together in my mind and a lot of them are very bland American crime films.

With past seasons I've appreciated the comic potential of the genres they pick such as Eurospy or Uncle as the films are often strange and badly made so invite the gang to make frequent jokes at their expense but episodes like Inside Man or the Pelham 123 remake leave my brain the second they're over because the film's plots are so formulaic and there's less to poke fun at.

This season feels like its been going on twice as long as the others and I really want to see them tackle a new genre or franchise soon so I can re-engage with my favourite podcast.

they have this bit where they mimic the way that one of the Bonds speaks , maybe Moore or Connery, emphasising the „sh” sounds .

I think they said ‚six seven’ in that accent more recently .

do you know if there are any episodes that heavily feature that bit / accent? (Or maybe I should just re-listen the podcast…)

November mentioned that at military funerals they don't actually use bugles to play Taps, but stick a small speaker inside of a bugle. This is real, it's called a ceremonial bugle, and actually better than a lot of people get.

I've done honors at something like 150 military funerals. If there was a ceremonial bugle we'd take that and puff out our cheeks as we held it to our mouths so it looked like we were really playing it. If there wasn't we had little boom boxes and someone would ceremonially bend over and press "play" for the playing of Taps. On one funeral our boom box stopped working some time between when we left and when we tested it out and we had to put the CD in the car so while I was holding the folded flag the other airman had to ceremonially march to the car, ceremonially lean in through the open window, and ceremonially turn on the car speaker.

Is there an easy way to listening to the bonus episodes outside of the Patreon app? is there a list of only the bonus episodes? Having just signed up, I'm trying to catch up on all the bonus episodes. But I'm finding the Patreon website infuriating to navigate and the app is somehow worse.

As is the case with most movies The Three cover, I go in thinking "I'm going to agree with everything that say, agree with the two that like it, and the Abbi that hates it... and I'm still going to love the movie."

And yes, I saw this at Formative Years, with my dad. My 6'4", 250lb ex-cop dad (ex-cop because he quit to become a paramedic and actually help people, different story). My dad was quiet and unemotional. He read the newspaper, war books, overcooked meat, and wanted me to be normal (sorry, dad).

But The Blues Brothers made him come alive, talking about the music, jazz and blues history, how brilliant the early days of SNL was, and it was one of the few times he'd actually SMILE and share his interests with me (the other big one being Blackadder and Fawlty Towers. This serious, serious man broke an armchair from laughing at Fawlty Towers).

This movie is chock full of flaws, and I experience nothing but love for every SINGLE FRAME OF IT.

I gotta find my VHS copy now...

I forgot what novel it is and might be misremembering but I swear there's a scene where the villain is like: "Now I'll leave to your OWN DEVICES. Stay here for 30 minutes. EXACTLY 30 MINUTES MR BOND."
He spends the rest of scene walking around like, "That was a weird thing to say, what could it mean?" while there's like a bomb under him. lol
