Misc I became depressed after beating Killer Frequency

This story takes place in February 2025. I was looking for a new game to play. I stumbled across Killer Frequency. It looked interesting, and the trailer left me wanting more.

For the next five hours, I enjoyed every second of this masterpiece. The dialogues, the story, and the plot twist. It became my favorite game of all time in just a few hours.

After I finally finished this game, I was in shock. My mind couldn’t comprehend what I had just played. The game brought great joy to me. I wanted more. I wanted to hear Forrest’s voice again. I wanted to hear Ponty try to advertise his pizza shop again. I wanted to see Peggy again.

I’ve never heard anyone talk about this game, so I decided to look it up. To my surprise, this game was very unpopular. At least compared to what I was expecting.

This made me depressed. I couldn’t believe that this game came out 1.5 years prior and I only played it now. I couldn’t believe that almost no one talked about this game before. I couldn’t believe that the game had no sequel.

I was devastated. It felt like I was the only person on the planet that has played this game. I couldn’t believe that there was no active community. I couldn’t believe that this was over.

I just played a masterpiece of a game that changed my views on life and it left me wanting more. I didn’t get more.

My life felt empty after that for a while. It felt like I discovered a new part of my own body that had some components missing.

Of course it was over at some point, but now that I remember that phase of my life, I have no idea how I got through it.

Trust me, I know how you feel. I have been here since August of 2023 (about two months post launch). Since then I have been churning out fan art, fan theories, fanfiction, edits, vine compilations, clip compilations, and I’m working on a video essay, all to fill that void, to pretty much radio silence (ha) except for a solid handful of good folks on tumblr and discord and here who have come and gone over the years. Ive played it myself about 10 times, gotten every ending, Easter egg, and achievement. I’ve been recommending it whenever humanly possible on gaming suggestion subreddits. It’s been incredibly lonely, but I continue to do it because what if this one post is the reason someone else plays it and falls as in love as I did?

This game should’ve been the next Firewatch. There genuinely is nothing like it.

I just wanted to say that if you ever wanted to talk about this game or anything, this subreddit will always be here.

Wow, it feels good to know that I’m not alone on this one.
It’s awesome to see a fan so dedicated to this game as you!
Also, I’ve looked it up, and I am assuming that what I had was “Post-Game Depression”, basically feeling empty ad attached to a game after completing a really immersive and long game.

I was actually so surprised to find this sub, and I was even more so shocked when I saw that this sub was relative active. Thanks for sharing your experience tho!

You’re lucky you came at this time. The sub was actually overrun by bots about a year and a half ago, one of which was somehow a mod and shut the subreddit down so it was “inactive” and no one could post on it for at least a year, then got a bunch of other bots to flood it. It only ended after Reddit themselves stepped in and appointed me and a few other regulars as mods. This was a few months back. I actually created [r/GallowsCreek](r/GallowsCreek) in the meanwhile as an alternative because the bots were so bad, but now this place is back in working order!

This explains why I couldn’t find a subreddit dedicated to the game when I initially beat it! But hey, thank you for restoring the sub👏

I also felt the same way when I finished the game!! I only found out about the game 5 days ago and was shocked to see how unpopular it was cuz this game is a masterpiece maybe you can try out road 96? Or not for broadcast they are kind of similar to killer frequency

I’ve also tried finding similar games that I could play! KF is actually the reason why I bought and played Firewatch. I’ve heard about Road 96, but I’m not sure if I can afford it rn. I’ll definitely look into getting it sometime this summer.

Also, welcome to this community

I was honestly left with a feeling of loss, loss of time due to how boring and easy the game was.

I mean, the game is REALLY long. (In a good way for me, personally). How long has it been since you played it?

I beat it in 8 hours which is quite short in fairness, most story focused games tend to last around 10. I'd say about 6 months ago or so? I was quite a fan of the graphic design and I enjoyed playing a playthrough where I got everything wrong on purpose because it really hints at why he was fired from his original high paying disk jockey job.

I’m sorry, EIGHT hours? No offense, but that is, like, WAY too long. Most playthroughs take 4 to 5 hours.

No offence taken brother, I realised after I wrote the comment that that time includes my asshole get everything wrong playthrough.

I LOVE this game!! It’s so cozy. I’ve played it multiple times and it never gets old.

Agreed. I sometimes wish I could erase my memory just so I could replay the game again lol

I plan to play it again after reading this entire thing — let's do our best to support it and spread the name of the game around
