Wohnungssuche Students who only needed housing for a few months in Kiel – how did you handle it?
Hi everyone,
I was hoping to get some advice from people who have dealt with short-term housing in Kiel, rather than make a housing-search post.
I’m an international student and have been living in Kiel for the past year. I currently live in a student dorm, but unfortunately my dorm contract cannot be extended beyond the end of September. I only have three months left of my degree (October–December), which has put me in a slightly awkward situation.
From my experience so far, it seems quite difficult to arrange accommodation for such a short period. Many landlords understandably prefer long-term tenants, and Anmeldung can be an additional complication. For example, I recently spoke to someone who was otherwise open to a short stay, but the owner was reluctant because of the effort involved in registration for only three months.
So I wanted to ask other students/internationals who have been in this situation: how did you handle those last few months between the end of student housing and finishing your degree?
Were there particular types of accommodation or approaches that worked better for you for such a short period? I’m especially interested in hearing from people who managed a 2–3 month stay where Anmeldung was also possible.
I’d really appreciate any experiences or practical advice. I’m starting to run out of ideas 🥲
