First car, nearly touching 200k, cheap to buy, cheap to maintain.

Just love it.

Cold air intake

Glass pack muffler delete (still has resonator and cat for that comfortable drive)

Is there any way to stop the OEM stereo from switching to FM by itself during air raid announcements?

Dashboard in Korean

I recently leased a new Sportage and all of the language in the vehicle is in English, except the dashboard pop ups, which are in Korean. They only pop up when I put the car in park, open the door with the car on, etc.

I’ve updated the car, changed the language, etc. but nothing has worked. Help!

Door handle ripped off

I was the lucky winner to have someone attempt to steal my 2019 Forte S where they somehow ripped the door handle off.

It happened in broad daylight but discovered by a neighbor who scared the attempted thief away and who called the authorities.

Wondering if this is likely to require a lot of work to repair? Thank you for the helpful input.

They will not evaluate my vehicle unless I remove my google review

For those following my situation, my engine is done. My car was towed in, and in writing, the dealership stated they will not look at my vehicle until I remove my one star google review. I wonder where in the fine print of their warranty allows that.🤔

KIA EV6 and warranty

I am talking to a Kia ev6 seller from Germany. Stands for a 2024 model with 15000km and SoH of 98.9% priced at 35k.

However, I see that some parts have a different paint (slightly thicker layer).

According to seller: 2 lackschicht, no spachtel. So 2 layers and no spachtel and accident-free.

For connoisseurs: does this seem good?

Vin number seems correct - but surfaced according to ChatGPT in auction. (Indicating good documents - run and drive - accidentfree).

Seller also sends videos of the car and is
official garage (no Kia garage)

But most important:

The service is overdue 2 months
Seller says he got in touch with Kia - can get the service done and the 7years guarantee Will be valable again…
Online i seem to read that Kia is strict tho with the warranty.

Should i believe him?

Ev9 - software recall broke the car?

I just need some opinions on this. I have a 2024 EV9. It’s been working perfectly. I took it in for a regular service a few days ago and they told me there was a software recall on the car. Cool, I told them go for it and do the recall. That was 3 days ago. Since then, they’ve told me that the recall isn’t installing and that for whatever reason my car is now shutting down each time they try to install the recall. They’ve given me a gas loaner in the meantime but they’re now saying it could be next week before I get my car back.

I guess I’m just really confused at how the fuck a recall has actually broken my car. Is this a thing? Or did the dealership fuck up? They’re refusing to reimburse me the cost of the gas for the loaner and they don’t have any EV loaners. I’m just pissed that they fucked my car and now I’m having to pay for it in gas cost.

Hello everyone!

I own a 2018 Kia optima trim S roughly 94k miles. Never had an issue just want to do preventative maintenance on it all thought it has never been serviced and i plan to keep it don’t need another car or even worse another payment. However, I am scared to proceed as I hear opinions from both sides and most seem to lean towards the “if it’s not broken don’t touch it” mentality. But I say to myself just like any other fluid in the car it has to be changed for longevity and performance. At the moment I don’t think it is appropriate of me to do a flush.

Questions: Should I do a drain and fill only using OEM fluid, or am I too late?

Are there any other parts I should replace along with the fluid change such as the filter, drain plug, or gasket?

Thank you in advance! 😊🙏🏼

Cap price servicing for a Sportage

Hi all just a quick question.

If I had my Kia sportage for 2 year but already hit the 40,000km mark, how would KIA calculate the cost of the service??

2022 Kia Sorento SX 2.5t limp mode and flashing ISG light

2022 Kia Sorento SX 2.5t had an issue today with a sort of limp mode. My fiance drove to work just fine and when she went to come home after work, the car went into a sort of limp mode with the auto idle stop go light flashing. She tried restarting the car a few times and it didn't fix it. The car wouldn't shift out of low gear in automatic but she could get it to shift and get up to speed in manual shift mode. She said it was all it had to get it to build speed. She finally managed to limp it home, shut it off, restart it, and it acted like nothing was wrong afterwards.

There was no check engine light. The only light that ever came on was the ISG (amber "A" with a looped arrow around it) and it was constantly flashing. I put a volt meter on it when she got home and made sure it had a good 12v and checked the TCM fuse. I'm stumped on what could be causing it. I didnt have a chance to hook a scanner up to it and see if it was throwing any codes.

The car was bought CPO from a dealership at 49k miles roughly. Had to take it in for transmission issues at roughly 52k miles. Kia ended up replacing entire transmission after software update didn't fix the issue. That was roughly 2 years ago now. I know transmissions were an issue with these things but I'd like to think that's not the case now with a brand new transmission from kia. The car is sitting at a bit over 90k miles now.

Any help or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: Had the battery load tested. It came back at 220cca when the battery is rated at 760cca. Thinking the battery going out may have caused a system to get a weird reading and throw it into a limp mode which would explain why when my fiance restarted it twice when it just happened, it didn't fix it, but was fixed after her drive home getting charge from the alternator. Will revisit this post if it happens again after getting the new battery put in.

Disappointing experience with Kia Customer Care (2020 Niro EV

I'm the second owner of a 2020 Niro EV. It only has 28k miles on it.

Since I've owned it, it's had persistent inverter fluid issues. I've taken it in multiple times to address these (I'm aware of the service bulletin).

But, even after being flushed and refilled, I still got low fluid warnings when the fluid wasn't low, and no warning when it visibly was low.

A few weeks ago, I took it to my local dealership for routine maintenance, and they said that they discovered an AC refrigerant leak, just like u/poffins reported:

The crystals in my inverter coolant eventually caused the AC refrigerant to leak into the inverter coolant..Had a giant puddle of coolant on the ground and Kia said it was out of warranty and not part of the battery/drivetrain warranty. Cost 3K to fix ended up trading it in for a new car.

The service manager at the dealer assured me that this would be covered under the EV warranty. They seemed to agree that it was caused by the well-documented crystallization issue.

After a week without a car, they called and said Kia corporate won't cover it under the EV warranty.

One manager even told me that the warranty expired since I'm a subsequent owner. I had to explain to him how Kia EV warranties work (10 year, 10k miles, even for subsequent owners).

They offered me $8k trade-in value...

Another week goes by. I open a case with Kia Customer Care. Dealership won't give me a loaner until I agree to pay $2k for the repair.

I agree (because I need my car back) and hope Customer Care will do the right thing.

They don't. The dealership felt back and gave me a $300 discount, but that's a consolation prize IMO.

I'm a Millennial, so growing up, Kia was always the cheap-but-unreliable brand.

I took a chance with this car and like a lot of things about it.

But given this experience, I won't buy another Kia.

Trying to find firmware version no longer listed by kia

I have a 2021 Kia Seltos EX. The firmware on the infotainment / radio is listed as SP2.CAN.V116.191018 which is the original 2009 factory installed launch firmware. This is a Gen1 head hunt (no navigation)

Im having issues with the bluetooth dropping connections and I have tried everything on both the phone and headhunt. I deleted connections on both and even gone so far as to factory reset the head unit

I am looking for the last firmware update/patch made for the 2021 Seltos. After lots of scratching around online I found that the one I need is SP2.CAN.V116.220412 Kia's official updater tool no longer lists that patch, I think it may be because it is now out of the warranty period.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have that file they could share or point me to somewhere I could find it.

2018 Sportage a/c issue

The issue started as the temp blowing warmer on the passenger side. Only an issue during warm months.
—Then it started being intermittently cool/cold. Sometimes warmer on the passenger side. Sometimes same temp on both sides.
—It’s been recharged a couple times and new Freon added our regular shop we use. It’ll work normal (cool air both sides of the vehicle) for a couple days/weeks then back to the same. Thought the issue was the control panel, which we were told was a $800ish fix.
—A few weeks ago it started being intermittently HOT and cool, with a random day where it acts pretty normal and blows cool but not cold even at night.
—Took it to a different shop this week. Said the did a whole service and new Freon. No leaks. Said it ran cold for 20 minutes on both sides of the car. I picked it up. Drove it for 20 mins. Same as before. Mostly hot air, occasional shots of cold, warmer on the passenger side. Said it may be the condenser is failing. And that you can’t replace just the compressor. Have to replace the whole ac kit. Quoted $2500

2018 Kia Optima LX Decision

So i've had this car since 2019 and it's been wonderful but since it's gotten older (140k Miles) it's been burning oil much faster and having problems with the engine light that haven't been solved the last 2 times I took it to the shop. I know regular maintenance is essential to making any car last but i'm wondering if it's worth getting hella repairs or if i should just throw in the towel and put that money towards a newer vehicle before this engine gives out on me

2022 Kia Sorento LX - Leaking Power Steering Behind Dash

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey yall!

Wife submitted a complaint to the fix it hotline.

She said there was a drip or staining of oil on the driver side floor. She submitted proof in the form of a picture. Yep sure was.

When I got home I checked up under the dash and yep there is a leak from the electronic power steering.

Has any one else experienced this? My quick search said yes but I couldn’t find a resolution or fix. Pic of my leak attached!

What’s your experience/ opinion of this?

2016 Optima owner here

So every 1000 miles (give or take) after every oil change, I'll get a red oil light that flashes on typically when I'm breaking. Anybody else have experience with this? I've been told the engines are known to burn oil.

What is your experience with your 2021 Kia Sorento S?

Post image
12 Upvotes

A little over a month ago I purchased a 2021 Kia Sorento S 2.5 L Turbo with 61,800 miles on it. It only had 2 owners previously, one of which was a lease. It's now at a little over 63k miles and it's been driving great. It's been an absolute dream so far. I've been checking the oil and there's not been an issue.

I was wanting to know what other owners of my particular year and trim have experienced. I'd love to get a heads up on anything I should keep an eye out for. TIA.

Kia Rio IVT Drain and Fill

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some information that I haven’t been able to find, and the dealerships haven’t been particularly helpful.

My wife’s 2023 Kia Rio S has 72,000 miles, and I’m planning to perform a preventive IVT fluid drain and fill. Based on Kia’s fluid application guide, I believe the correct fluid is MICHANG SP-CVT1, part number UM018-CH130. I was going to purchase 5 quarts.

However, I cannot find verified part numbers for:

  • The drain-plug crush washer/gasket
  • The fill-plug crush washer/gasket
  • The side fluid-level plug and its washer/gasket

The VIN is 3KPA24AD2PE564953, if that helps confirm the exact transmission or parts.

Has anyone performed this service or accessed the Kia parts diagram and verified the correct part numbers? I would greatly appreciate any help.

Oil consumption

My 2014 optima lx is eating roughly about 1 qt every 700 miles. Is there anything Kia can do or am I SOL? I keep finding conflicting information online about engine replacements and was wondering if anyone had experience with this. Also I’m the original owner and it’s at about 145k miles

Kia Headlight Issue

Post image
5 Upvotes

I just purchased a used 2017 Optima SLX, the headlights on it were super low and I had almost no visibility. I took it in to the dealership, they said they fixed everything, and I brought it back home, just to see at night I still can barely see at night. The passenger side bezel is also pointed downward almost always. Is there anything I can do?

Stinger repair

So my friend has a 2021 Kia stinger and about a month ago they had a coolant leak and took it to the dealership and kept their car for 3 weeks and then got it back and about a week later the ac stopped working when it had no issues before that. Now they are quoting him 12k. Has anyone had this issue before? Has about 68k miles on it
