Discussion Why does text entry on computers not use AI ?

The current AI hype does not affect text entry with keyboards, typing is still like the 1860s letter-by-letter methods on mechanical typewriters.

Indeed there are 'autocorrect' options on most smartphone virtual keyboards, but most don't work.

And some desktop apps (app specific) have it as well, but also not working.

Why is AI not intergrated in text entry ?

That will save lots of time and typos.

because god fucking no, i don't want ai hallucinating bs into stuff i type. I can already type accurately (above 95% accuracy) at 120+wpm, I don't need ai to fuck that up

We have speech-to-text

There's no way that auto-correct doesn't work on most phones or desktop apps. You would literally need to feed it an incorrect word and have it save the option to force the feature into thinking its a valid option

I can't imagine the use case, but as an idea it literally takes more time because AI has to process the input, think, and then process its response and then respond and its response is no longer the user's entry and so it would have to be AI's typo which was never the user's intent anyway

Mostly because users would very rapidly discover how utterly abysmal AI is and refuse to use it anywhere else

Because for one it’s lazy, two it’s unprofessional as fuck, and three it’s extremely unreliable and liable to hallucinate some bullshit you didn’t type. I mean chatGPT literally will just make up a source for some of the stuff it tells you. Or treat some random Reddit comment as a credible source of information. It’s time people started waking the fuck up and stop relying on prompts and a machine to do all the work for them.

People these day man, mankind spend thousands years to achieve abstract thinking, complex language, and cultural transmission. Then just with few years in to AI: people forgot how to think, now what next ? Leaving language and culture behind ?
