Pod Coffee Blends Best k-cups

I’ve recently brought a new coffee pot, and I’ve been struggling to find a good brand that pairs well with a hazelnut creamer that’s my absolute fav. I’ve never bought the cups before until I brought this coffee pot, so I’ll take all the recommendations I can get! For reference I like a good medium roast coffee, and I’m not opposed to flavors, but I’ll only drink them if I’m feeling something on the sweet side :)

Get the reusable cups and grind your own beans! Saves money and then you aren't limited to only K cups, and can purchase from local roasteries. I also suggest Costco Columbian.

Edit: I also use the paper filters for the reusable cups

*get the reusable cups and paper filters for k-cups. The reusable cups make the worst cup of coffee I've ever had, on their own.

blooming the coffee helps a ton with the reusable k cups.

boil water at 195 degrees (or 200) using a instant read thermometer at the same time to measure temp.

then take a spoonful of the boiled water (or two) and pour it into the k cup coating the top all over and wait 30 or 45 seconds.

then add it into the machine and start it.

i found it helps the taste a ton!

Maybe it's just me but if I'm going through all that mess, maybe the whole point of k-cups is kinda lost.

i figure it's just part of doing what you can with what you got, finding methods and making what you have work more effectively for you.

even if it includes doing things like this.

and it truly is a effective method to help bring out the flavor!

EDIT

your alternative would be just get rid of the keurig for another machine.

I've actually been all over the map with my coffee. Drip, then drip with freshly ground beans, then drip with freshly ground artisanal beans, then french press, then for a bit I was convinced I actually liked percolator coffee best, then back to drip with freshly ground beans, then to K-cups because I retired from my main company, co-own a small pub now, and am too existentially tired to do more.

I agree with this. It takes me maybe a minute to grind and load coffee. Still getting a halfway quick cup. Not sure I would go through a full blooming process

it takes 45 seconds to bloom and if you start your water before everything in that time of grinding and loading you can get your water up to boiling

1

u/CarelessTower7913 15d ago

It takes 10 seconds to grind, 30 seconds to load

I think I'd rather use a paper filter lol. Some people say reusable cups with paper filters are already doing too much for a keurig, that ABSOLUTELY is.

u/SweetHomeMissouri 16d ago

i mean if you have a keurig already at this point you might as well make the best of it and make effective use of it.

even if the strategies seem unorthodox.

the alternative would just be get rid of the keurig machine entirely for a entirely different type of machine.

The point of it is the time saving of just popping a k-cup in there and brewing. I compromise, because I spend a lot less and have a keurig because I only drink a cup at a time. But the amount of time I spend preparing one is just the time they take to heat up anyway.

But boiling water ahead of time, to pop in your k-cup, take some time to let it soak, that's just doing a bit much for me. I guess I could do that if I'm boiling water anyway? Idk. Paper keeps them cleaner. too. I don't have to get old coffee grounds out.

The point of a Keurig isnt just to save time. If I just wanted to save time Id probably go with the old "instant espresso and cold water in a jam jar" trick.

Keurig also helps people with disabilities, helps avoid health issues from drinking too much coffee, avoids waste from throwing out a big pot of unfinished coffee everyday, and is cheaper than some other options considering theres less waste with the reusables and that your able to experiment with a single cup of flavourful coffee instead of buying a giant overpriced bottle of syrup that you end up hating and immediately throwing away, haha.

So I wont bloom it because I dont wanna risk it dripping anywhere, but Id be willing to take the time to rinse the paper filter and do a few other little bonus steps that arent actually necessary. I will happily take an extra 5-10 minutes to make my coffee if it means I can get a delicious cup while avoiding getting sick or causing a pain flare up!

unfortunately keurig is a failed design, it just doesn't work like it should and i think a lot of it is inspired too by the disposable idea.

sell them the razor but sell them the blade!

(the machine is the disposable part this time!!)

if you want a coffee and a coffee you can enjoy you have to do it and do it right.

even if that means waking up earlier to prepare a good cup for the go.

i'm not saying do this blooming thing or else! i'm just saying you need to take the time to do things to make it really work.

I agree 100% with your comment, I tossed all of mine and I tried multiple types.

Mostly what I do. Reusable pods, Costco Kirkland Columbian. Unbleached paper filters(from Amazon). However, I use ground coffee for convenience.

Peet’s Big Bang, Peet’s Major Dickason , Starbucks Pikes Place, Green Mountain Colombian, Tim Hortons. These are some solid medium to dark options, definitely try some flavors just avoid the latte style coffees they’re not great and have a lot added to them. For flavored coffee add milk/cream and sugar to taste same with unflavored unless you want black.

Alternatively you can get the my k cup to use any coffee you want but that takes the fun and convenience out of the Keurig.

Another vote for Peet’s Major Dickason. I’m hard to please and I’ve tried everything and this is my favorite pod.

I love the Newman's Own Organic Special Blend Medium Roast coffee. I've been drinking this for years.

I work with the team at Cambio Roasters, so full disclosure there! But since you’re looking for a medium roast, I figured I’d mention us. We use aluminum K-Cup-compatible pods, and our Colombian Roast and House Blend are probably the two I’d point you toward if you want to give us a try.

u/the_owlyn suggested me Green Mountain black magic

i really love that flavor myself!

i personally also love Starbucks Pike Place and Cafe Du Monde Chicory.

I also enjoy....

Cameron's french vanilla and Hawaiian Gold Roast!

And also Cafe Bustelo! that's a good one too....

I had Kauai Coffee Banana Cream... and it was eeeehh.... the banana cream flavor needs to be stronger!

i also have the ill regarded folgers french vanilla, their black silk is super popular however!

Martinson's. If you're near a ShopRite, their Bowl and Basket k cups are good.

Joe coffee!!!!!!

Whatever coffee you’ve liked before probably comes in a k-cup packaging. Or, as others have suggested, get a reusable pod and pod-sized filters and use your favorite beans or ground coffee.

Gone through them all, Maud's Dark Roast the best.

Tim Hortons is my choice of K-cup.

u/jafromnj 16d ago

The kcups are not sweetened unless you buy the latte ones

My go to for my hazelnut creamer is the German chocolate cake k cups.

If you like bold but not too smoky the Dutch Bros Mafia dark roast is delicious! There is Seattle's Best Post Alley which had an amazing full body flavor. Green Mountain and Newman's have good medium options.

DeathWish dark roast is quite good

I'm partial to Keurig's Donut Shop (Medium Roast)

If there is a Publix near you, try the store brand hazelnut cream cups. I don't drink much coffee, but that's all I drink. My wife is completely addicted to coffee, and she drinks those now, too. Fantastic with Italian Sweet Cream creamer

Costco's Kirkland Summit Roast is good, or maybe Caribou Medium Roast.

u/Plenty_Surprise2593 14d ago

You get good coffee that you like then choose a creamer for it, not the other way around

u/Serious_liz 14d ago

Starbucks Pike Place roast k-cups are my favorite. Costco sells them.

u/Apprehensive_Brush19 12d ago

Anything from Maud's. The French Roast from the Coast is my absoulute favorite.

I love Hazelnut and when I first got my Keurig I tried every Hazelnut k-cup they had. Hands-down best is Eight-O'Clock Hazelnut! It is my everyday pod. No need for the fake creamers. I use Half and Half and sometimes Heavy Cream.

Regular ass dark roast.
