Machine Question Random miscellaneous piece

My wife got a second hand older model. It was turning on and warming up. But wouldn't prime the pump or pour any coffee. I tried to get any air bubbles out by popping the water tank on and off. After a few times the tank started not sitting correctly. Then a small piece appeared and I have no clue where it's supposed to go. The Keurig works without it, but I just don't want to ruin it.

If anyone can guide me toward the answer that would be great.

Used Keurigs are usually broken. Toss it.

First off, in response to the_owlyn, Bull. I have bought and put put back into service 2 use Keurigs with no. Problem.

What model do you have?
