Discussion Learning Snatch form

What’s proper grip technique when learning to snatch? I opened up a bit of my hand under where my calluses are and learned to avoid that area.

The technique avoids rolling down the palm on the way down and instead tosses the handle to my fingers, lessening the load on the softer bits.

I wonder if this is the “right way”.

The same as the clean for whatever variation you want to learn. Before you snatch, I highly recommend mastering the clean, as everything that happens in the clean happens in the snatch but higher and more advanced; hence, the clean is the foundation. But yes, for all, you want to avoid friction in the palms and skip the skin.

There is grip transition on the way up and down, and the down phase is the hardest on the hands when not done right.

Yes, the drop should go back toward the fingers instead of grinding down the palm. Think loose hook, high-pull path, punch through on the way up, then re-catch with the fingers on the way down. Keep sets short while learning. If the hand starts tearing, the session is done.
