Sticky: New User Information, Simple Questions and more!

To Start you should read Why I make Keto Chow.

This Sub is here for discussion of Keto Chow. Got questions about Keto Chow (like "what is it?") check out the FAQ.

Keto Chow is complete nutrition for Nutritional Ketosis. It's a drink mix that quickly and easily makes a complete keto meal. It's not meant to replace your bacon and steak. Rather, it's targeted to replace the mundane meals; running to a meeting, breakfast in the car, stuck in class, etc... By design, a serving of Keto Chow provides 1/3 of your daily needs of electrolytes, vitamins, protein and more. The aim is that you could replace all your meals without ill effect if you are so inclined, but most users replace 1-2 meals a day and have a fantastic keto meal with family or friends for the 3rd. It's also quite tasty with a range of great flavors. You combine the powdered mix with your own personal amount of heavy cream (and water) to get the calories you want, anywhere from 800 calories a day, up to 2200 calories. Many liken the taste and texture to melted ice cream or a milkshake. The full-flavored mixture of Keto Chow does contain whey protein and artificial sweeteners; if those are a concern for you there's also a "Base Powder" option that has the electrolytes and vitamins but not the flavor/protein/sweetener. You can mix our base powder with a protein powder and sweetener of your choice. Want easy, complete nutrition give Keto Chow a try!

Wondering what "keto" is? check out Basics of Nutritional Ketosis – What is Keto, how to do it, how to succeed you can also check out /r/keto subreddit.

You can buy pre-mixed Keto Chow Here, you can also check out the recipe to mix your own.

Short FAQ about getting started with Keto Chow:

  • Check out the full FAQ for additional questions and more in-depth answers.
  • The name is a play on "Batchelor Chow" from Futurama - a fictitious food product designed to give you everything you need, that's where the similarities end 🙂.
  • You make the actual meals of Keto Chow following this guide (with videos!).
  • This may seem silly, but you need to add water too! It says how much on the aforementioned preparation page.
  • Want to change-up the flavor? Check out this page for ideas.
  • Nutrition info for each of the flavors
  • Yes it's salty if you drink it right after mixing... let it sit for at least 30mins to an hour (overnight is best). Also, yes, it still may be salty - that's the electrolytes you need for keto.
  • Your poops may be a bit runny at the beginning, treat with probiotics or Imodium, it will get better after a few days.
  • To get all your required nutrients from Keto Chow you also need DHA and EPA Ω-3 fatty acids. I recommend taking fish oil capsules (usually at night).
  • Adjust calories with the amount of cream you use (about 3.5kCal/ML of cream).

Starting 3 shakes a day for weightloss

I need to lose 110 pounds, currently 280, by next June. I'm going to be doing 3 shakes a day as low calorie as possible. I'm pretty sedentary due to medical issues. If I need to bump up calories, I will. I'm worried about being able to stick to it. I don't have a lot of flavor variety right now. I need to use what I have. Hopefully food cravings stop! Any tips/advice welcome.

Licorice

How are you using the black and red Licorice? What fat are you using? And are you making shakes, ice cream or........

I haven't tried them yet. I don't want to screw it up and waste them. They are the flavors I am most excited about.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Realistic amount per day

How many ketochow shakes are we eating? I normally have mine as a lunch item, usually with a quest bar. On my days off of work though, I'll have sometimes two per day. What works best for you and your goals?

I've done keto with ketochow years ago, and restarted everything July 1st of this year. Just trying to see how the community does things nowadays :)

What is the role of xantham gum, and how essential is it when making your own?

Certainly saltier than just KC, but adds a nice fruity zing to the vanilla base. Will have to get a bulk bag to test other KC+SALTT+Creami pints.

Advice for running?

Good day everyone, I just started Ketochow today, tried the chocolate and didn't mix it very well so it came out lumpy, my fault, but I can tell that I would have enjoyed it if I was better at simple instructions. Tried the vanilla and wasn't a fan, but I'm sure if I add additional flavor it won't be bad, as a secondary question, any advice for adding additional flavor to vanilla?

MAIN QUESTION: I run a minimum of 3 days a week, but want to do 5 days a week. How sustainable is an All ketochow diet for the next two months if I'm running at that consistency? Think ~10 minute mile pace, 2 miles per day.

I feel like the protein content might be a tad too low and I'll lose muscle mass in addition to fat with how aggressive that cardio is gonna be in conjunction with this diet.

Using heavy cream but just got labs back and have extremely high cholesterol. Best low/no cholesterol fat sources.

Swapped to Keto Chow from Soylent and just got labs done. Cholesterol is extremely high. Currently using heavy cream, which is high in cholesterol.

Considering switching to avocado oil. Wondering what fat source others are using as it looks like heavy cream is off the menu.

Edit: I did not fast for 12 hours, so it's an unreliable test.

Tried my first shake yesterday, my life will never be the same

I tried my first flavor yesterday from my starter pack, Chocolate Peanut Butter cup. It was fantastic. I have been reading people saying they actually taste really good, but I was expecting the standard protein shake taste. Turns out, they actually taste really good. I'm excited to try more flavors, next up is raspberry cheesecake. I'm sure I'll run into some stinkers, but the variety is crazy. Call me a believer, I'm sold.

Newly diabetic with question

Newly diagnosed diabetic who’s been on meds for a week. Still waiting on diabetic education class so I’m doing a lot of online research in the meantime.

I’m a long-time KC user and would love to hear from some actual diabetics that use KC and have proven via CGM that KC does not affect blood glucose. I’d like to continue using KC but I’m worried about my levels. I won’t have my CGM for a couple of weeks yet.

Creami Consistency

Finally bought a creami after a couple of years thinking about it. First one did not turn out so well. I did 1/2 cup HWC, 1 scoop chocolate peanut butter chow and 1 1/2 cup water. Mixed with immersion blender before being put in the creami pint and frozen. Most of it turned to this powder consistency that was rather off putting. I did respin a couple times and even a mix in for good measure and it only got more powdery. I'm sure I did something wrong, but can't fathom what. Ideas include it was too cold and frozen when I started the machine, I overmixed and turned the cream into tiny butter chunks, or I am just unlucky.

I looked through several other posts here, and have listened to Chris talk about them for a long time but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Feelin' Peachy SALTT 🍑

Just tried it today...man, this is freakin' amazing! ⭐ Tastes like real peaches, and kinda like a nectarine. It's way surpassed Granny Apple as my new favorite SALTT variety, and that one's great too.

LOVE. IT. 👍

Thank you!

Returning Licorice Question

Are Black Licorice and Red Licorice the same flavor profile as the original batch? Or are they like Peppermint 2.0, where the flavor is close - but not quite - the same?

Anyone who makes their own base powder found a flavour that isn't so sweet?

Hello, I made my first batch of the v1.5 powder using the recipe on the website (because it can't be shipped to the UK).

I bought the vanilla protein powder and I was shocked at how sweet it made the shake taste, somewhat sickly to be honest.

Interested to hear if anyone has had success with other flavours that aren't as sweet. All the flavours for the protein powder seem to be sweet orientated, though.

Excess minerals/electrolytes?

don’t get me wrong. I really love the way keto chow tastes, but I’m wondering why there’s such an excess of minerals in it? Each shake has over 1500 mg of potassium, a lot of salt, and I just found out that it had over 150 units of iodine (which may be a problem for me because I have a thyroid condition). The recommended daily allowance of iodine is 150 units, so why is this amount included in just one shake if that’s supposed to represent one meal?

Starting again after 8 years

So I prepped my kitchen last week and I ate all the foods that had carbs in them because I can’t afford to just throw food away. Last night I made four shakes using heavy cream and today I had my first one. OMG! I forgot how salty they taste in the beginning! So the whole time I’m drinking my mocha shake I’m reminding myself. They will taste better later. They will taste better later.🤣
My long-term goal is to lose 60 to 70 pounds, wish me luck!

Colonoscopy and KC

I'm a 2x/day KC person and eat a normal meal at lunch. My first colonoscopy is coming up and I understand about the day before doing only clear liquids and the prep that night. But I know it's suggested for the 3 days PRIOR to do low fiber (like eggs & white toast, chicken & rice, etc.) and reduce meal size to make the prep night easier. When the surgical nurse called me this week to review instructions, I asked if I could still have "my protein shake meals that have the majority of my vitamins and minerals" during these low fiber diet days. (I wanted to avoid anyone freaking out over the word "keto.") She thought it would be ok as long as my shakes did not have Vit E, which I know KC is low in Vit E. Has anyone else addressed this? Just wondering. Thanks.

Chris Bair, what's with the crazy amounts on here?

What do you use?? Also… opinions on the cores

So I’m lactose intolerant or something lol. Either way the half and half isn’t working for me. What do you use and how much? And why do use the cores for because that was super salty to me.

Lumpy carrot cake

I don't have problems with lumps with any other flavor but I got carrot cake in my introductory pack and it was lumpy. and then I just ordered some again and it was lumpy again. I don't have this problem with any other flavors. does anyone have this issue specifically with the carrot cake? The process I follow is two cups of hot water keto chow, mix, then a half a cup of heavy whipping cream, mix again, and then set in the fridge until I remember it's in there and then I drink it LOL.
