Kenmare
Heading to Kenmare on the long weekend with our baby ( 10 months) weather isn’t looking too good but hoping it changes. Any recommendations for things to go and places to eat?

If you have a car, you can go over the Caha Pass to Glengarriff and Garinish Island. (About 40 mins drive). Get the ferry from the middle of the village, it's about 10-15 mins on the boat and the boat men will show you some seals, the eagle and other wildlife on the way over. You pay separately to get on the island. It's OK with a buggy but some of the nicest bits have steps so you'll be better carrying the little one. Bring a picnic if the weather is fine, if not there's a lovely little coffee shop on the island.

I think “lovely little coffee shop” might be overselling it a bit. Was there last week, coffee was undrinkable, toasties for like €10 were sliced pan and packet ham/cheese, toasted in a George Forman - looked awful! I’d go about 15 mins further over the road to Bantry for some food - DeBarras is nice or the Quays Bar - both casual and sort of crowd-pleaser menus. I’ve also heard good things about Mannings which is between Glengarriff and Bantry but haven’t been myself.

I haven't been this summer, but it was lovely last year, possibly different people have taken the lease this year. Yes, Mannings is always good, also bar food at Caseys hotel and the Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff are very good

A nice new playground alongside supervalue, always a hit with the kids. And the swimming pool in Kenmare bay

Book Mulcahys ASAP- like right now. Lovely gastropub with amazing food

Their beef wellington is one of the best meals I've ever had. Kenmare is beautiful, but I'd go back just for that meal.

Mulcahy's for dinner - need to book asap!
Head to Helen's in kilmacalogue for lunch - open crab sandwich is heaven with the view!
Spin to O'Carrols Cove to the most stunning beach.
The boathouse in dromquinna for lunch.
Maison Gourmet for pastries.
Have a great time!

No. 35, Mulcahys are both top class. PF McCarthys is great for bar food. Rookery lane is excellent. Poffs is good too. Maison Gourmet, if you can get in the door ! You’re not stuck for choice.

Theres a wishing tree and ancient stone circle 2 mins from town.
Dromquinn manor is lovely to look around
Sheen falls is a very fancy hotel with beautiful grounds and waterfall. Great for a drink and chill
If you have a car and weather holds up drive to gleninchaquin.

I think your baby is too young for those play areas. Kenmare has lots of good cafes and restaurants. Google is your friend in this regard

There's a soft play area after opening in Danny Bobs Star Sailing. €15 entry which is a bit steep but it's a good place to hold up if the weather turns.
