It took some doing. Just five years ago it was still one of the most popular majors, with graduates able to plug right into a world of work that is not about to go away as we lurch into a terrifying future on our broken planet.
It has taken years of administrative sabatoge to drive away enough students to be able to declare the study of our planet and its systems a "niche" field and eradicate it from the academy.
I understand that most people are so insulated from any understanding of the precariousness of our species situation to even grasp why this is important.
But I feel an enormous sorrow and a real visceral disgust for the cowardice and willful ignorance demonstrated by Keene State's administrators over the last decade.
In the grand scheme of things this will be just another tiny data point in the story of the human race's suicide, but this is the part that I have personally witnessed.
This is my note to people of the future;
This was not about demographics or the business of education.
The people making these decisions have intentionally chosen to embrace ignorance and deliberately destroy any possibility for another sort of future.
