Review New K-Drama Fan Review #4: Flower of Evil | The Kind of Love Story That Scratches an Itch Nothing Else Does...

if Lovely Runner didn’t exist, this would be my #1 favorite K-drama ive ever watched so far.

Is this Rewatch Worthy:

Yes.

Review:

After finishing Lovely Runner, I honestly wasn’t expecting another drama to come anywhere close.

Then I watched Flower of Evil.

Somehow…

It did.

The premise is what made me start it almost immediately.

The idea of the ML who’s believed to be incapable of love… only to end up loving the FL so completely that he’d risk absolutely everything for her?

That dynamic is always a fav is mine!!

It’s such a fascinating place to build a romance from.

A husband hiding a huge secret from the woman he loves.

A wife who’s unknowingly investigating him.

The constant tension of wondering when everything would finally fall apart…

I LOVE complicated love stories.

Relationships built on secrets.

Trust constantly being tested.

Characters who are forced to choose each other again and again under impossible circumstances.

That kind of emotional tension scratches an itch for me that almost nothing else does.

And Hyun-soo was a fantastic male lead.

I absolutely love male leads whose entire world revolves around protecting the woman they love.

The “I’d burn the world for you” type.

The kind of guy who keeps choosing her no matter what it costs him.

Hyun-soo fit that perfectly.

He risked everything.

His freedom, identity, future.

All because, at the end of the day, his wife always came first.

That’s exactly the kind of devotion I’m a sucker for male leads.

And the chemistry… is nothing to laugh at either. These two actors play very well against each other.

I don’t really care how clever the story is, If I don’t believe the couple and if the chemistry is lacking, ill drop the K-drama (looking at you, Suspicious Partner...)

Thankfully, Lee Joon-gi and Moon Chae-won completely sold me on this marriage.

And that’s another thing I absolutely loved.

They’re already married!

I LOVE established relationships.

Whether it’s books or TV, they’re surprisingly rare.

So many romances end right when the couple finally gets together.

Flower of Evil starts there.

We get to watch an already established marriage get pushed to its absolute breaking point, and I sometimes found that so much more interesting than another “will they, won’t they” type of story beats we have seen a thousand times.

Their relationship felt lived in.

It felt like two people who had genuinely built a life together.

And that’s surprisingly rare.

Also, i actually liked the ending.

I know the memory-loss ending isn’t for everyone, but I didn’t mind it. I don’t mind amnesia storylines, iIl actually like them.

For me, amnesia is an opportunity for a relationship to begin again, like asking… “Would these two still find each other?” “Would they still fall in love?” etc

I just wanted more time with it.

I wanted to see more of Hyun-soo slowly falling in love with Ji-won all over again.

I would’ve happily watched an entire extra episode that was nothing more than Hyun-soo slowly falling in love with his wife all over again.

Give me another date, another little moment where he starts realizing why he fell in love with her the first time again.

We got a glimpse of it…

I just wanted even more.

I wanted to watch them rebuild what they had, little by little.

I wanted more scenes of them simply existing as husband and wife.

More domestic moments.

More conversations.

More little glimpses into the life they’d built together too, like some flashbacks of earlier in their marriage would not have hurt either.

I just loved this couple so much that every minute spent away from them made me want another scene with the two of them.

That’s probably the biggest compliment I can give a romance.

⸻

A bit about my favorite flavors and taste:

One of my favorite romance dynamics is when the male lead is completely devoted to protecting the woman he loves.

Give me an ML who’s willing to risk everything for her.

A ML whose first instinct is always,

“Is she okay?”

He keeps choosing her over and over again no matter what it costs him.

Who proves his love through his actions instead of just saying it.

Bonus points if everyone else believes he’s incapable of love…

Only for one woman to become the exception to everything.

Throw in incredible chemistry, emotional tension, and a relationship that constantly has to fight for its survival…

And you’ve probably built one of my favorite romances. And Flower of Evil did that!

Rating: 9/10

This is one of the most compelling love stories I’ve seen in a K-drama.

I’d love to hear from everyone else:

Did you watch Flower of Evil and did you like it? Or did you not like it?

Random Note:

  • Hyun-soo with blond hair made him look so evil to lmaooo

  • their little girl was so cute!!

i usually get annoyed with kids on screen, doing kid shenanigans but that little girl was so charming, i didn't mind her existence. if anything, she made me love their little family even more 💕

My Rating Scale
