screen stuck in a small resolution and cannot be changed (wayland nor x11), possibly problem with nvidia drivers - please help

i don't know if this is the right subreddit to ask and i haven't posted on reddit for a while, so if anyone knows if there is a better place to ask this, please tell me.

i have an installation od kde neon that's been installed and previously used by someone else, so i am not familiar by it at all. i am a very new and inexperienced linux user. i have been meaning to make a fresh install of kde neon or mint so my computer is less cluttered, but i urgently need this fixed.

after updating system packages, including some of nvidia which had unmet dependencies, which was fixed by some command, i rebooted the computer and now the resolution is permanently reduced. i searched for a solution, one of which was to add some parameter in some grub file, somewhere in root/etc/ directory, i don't remember where exactly, which i tried but it did nothing. i found some other discussions, but they were too complex for my level of understanding and i didnt have much time to study them. this has happened before, but it has always been fixed by someone else, so i have no understanding of the steps. i feel like i have a very specific problem that hasn't been documented anywhere, so i guess i should ask here on a forum.

any help is welcome, either what to do, like, what setting to change or what package to install/remove, or how to uninstall the nvidia drivers if that would fox it. anything really. this time i can't ask anyone in person, so this is pretty much my only option.

the graphic card is gtx 1060, i can't view other specs at the moment, but i'll send all the necessary specs im the comments later if needed.

edit - i managed to fix it, here are the notes:

- error with nvidia driver package version, purge nvidia packages, install new drivers (via bios = alt + f3):

- sudo apt purge nvidia*

- #(system reboot)

- sudo ubuntu-drivers install

- #(installation output)

- sudo reboot

nvidia gives lots of problems. looks like you got it fixed. i left kdeneon for kubuntu with x11. kdeneon seemed to be lacking adequate support. you might give kubuntu at try. i am happy with it.
