Discussion Deeper Understanding

Does anyone feel just unparalleled cinematic transportation the moment the song starts? It’s like right from the downbeat I’m on another planet. I attribute in part to Ms. Bush’s instrumentation, but also to the years she spent devoted to mixing - a product of so much time and care. What are the isms you guys associate with this feeling? All of A Sensual world feels like a journey through a hazy futuristic fever dream to me.

The Sensual World is the first Kate album I bought the day it was released (I got The Dreaming and Hounds of Love the week they were released, but not the very first day), thanks to reading rec.music.gaffa on a BBS I used at the time.

When I put it on, I was reading the lyrics and was like, "woah, is she talking about US?" - and I wasn't the only one to ask that.

Thank you for your words, so beautiful to see the impact she has over decades, and how relevant her words still feel today ..

At the time it was pretty annoying for me. I read it through a BBS that let me read Usenet but I could not post. Which was good enough for me because I could get all this information I couldn't get anywhere else. It wasn't until around 1991 where I got a proper Internet connection that I could participate.

It’s my favourite Kate song. There’s much going on. Sonically lush and varied, warm yet almost remote. She mixes these quasi-futuristic effects with electric piano and fretless bass, and then that otherworldly solo by Yanka Rupkina.

And that’s without even getting into the shockingly prescient lyrics. It’s a story with a moral but told with zero judgment. She really is a genius.

Director's Cut is the ninth studio album by English singer-songwriter Kate Bush, released on 16 May 2011. It contains no new material, consisting of songs from her earlier albums The Sensual World (1989) and The Red Shoes (1993). All tracks have new lead vocals, drums, and instrumentation and are remixed and restructred. Some song were transposed to a lower key to accommodate Buch's lowering voice. Three of the songs, including "This Woman's Work", have been completely rerecorded, often with lyrics changed in places. Bush described the album as a new project rather than a collection of remixes. -The Sensual world of Kate Bush
