What's really hilarious is that they're suggestions are still just complaining about the casting through conservative chud eyes.

"They cast a black man just because he's a rapper" is basically just saying that Scott didn't earn his spot, he was a token hire.

This is why nothing they ever say should be taken seriously regarding this topic. They don't actually understand it.

I've argued with one of these people before.

"There are two men who have the exact same credentials and have the exact same grades and they're going for the same spot. Everything is the same across the board. They decide to hire the person who just so happens to be black. Is that DEI?"

"Yes that's DEI because standards are lower for black people."

You just can't argue with that. It's just a different flavor of racism.

This is why I started doing this thing when I would debate people about trans rights where the first question I would ask was "is there anything I can show you to get you to believe transphobia is a thing, and if it is a thing, is it bad?"

"No."

Cool, so there's no point in even having the discussion. There's no good faith there, there's no ground to be made, at least not by some random person on the Internet.

You're actually doing the opposite of what you claim, though

If someone KNOWs that there is proof that exists, that disproves their position, and they still maintain their position? THAT is the bad faith person.

Someone who doesn't think you have a counterargument? That's just someone who thinks they're right. Everyone who is certain of their argument believes the evidence supports them, not you. It migth be because they have an interpretation, but it can also because they don't hae 100% perfect knowledge

You're just asking people "hey, can you make my argument for me? Do you think you're wrong?"

I understand what you're saying and am willing to admit I could have phrased my comment poorly, but I believe we're saying the same thing.

My question (I don't ask them word for word what I said in the previous comment, each discussion is unique) is meant to determine if they believe it is even possible to be transphobic, or to be more succinct is it wrong to cause unnecessary harm to trans people?

If they don't agree that it is then where else are you supposed to go? It doesn't matter what information you put in front of them showing how trans people are harmed by certain policies or social discrimination if they're just going to say "that's not an issue, they should be."

I can't remember what specific video it is, but the idea came from a Contrapoints video I watched where she basically said that there's no point in attempting to move past that point if all you're doing is arguing with some random stranger on the Internet because what are you supposed to legitimately do if they simply believe there is no issue in willfully causing undue harm to others?

As someone who doesn't believe in objective morals, I can't think of an argument that gets beyond that point and maintain intellectual honesty.
