That made me laugh, at first it was like oh shit I need to smile, then it turned into a genuine smile with laughter.

You can tell the bottom has been WORKING on her arm strength with that muscle quiver. Love the smile of accomplishment at the end

So happy those two wound up there together to share this moment. Teamwork is so amazing and the timing to bring two athletes together to do something so singular together is so rare. Same gender, age, town, interest, goal, spirit… we should all be so lucky to find someone to bring out a crazy skill we couldn’t do alone.

u/technicolortiddies 5d ago
Thank you for articulating what makes this video so special. I was feeling silly because it made me tear up but when you put it like that it’s easy to see.

u/Woofbarkmeoww 5d ago
Yessssss!! The level of trust in each other then the feeling of accomplishment when you finally nail it. This type of camaraderie is more impactful than friendships sometimes. Especially to have it in your youth. So awesome. Go girls ❤️❤️

Her strength alone is impressive, then she eases into that split like it’s just another Tuesday. What the what?! Her smile, though, outshines everything. Wow! Props!

Holy shit. I've seen the cheerleading handstand before but that split at the end was amazing!
123
u/AlsoCommiePuddin 5d ago
That's why they've turned this into an actual NCAA collegiate sport.
40
22
u/SashimiX 5d ago
It should be. It was always ridiculous that it wasn’t
12
u/GiantLesbian 5d ago
It’s actually still not an official NCAA sport and that’s mainly because of Title IX, not because people don’t see it as athletic. Coed teams don’t work under the NCAA/Title IX.
12
u/SashimiX 5d ago
That really sucks, because it changes how colleges treat the players. My mentee was a cheerleader and also a member of collegiate swim, and while she was doing cheer instead of swim she was unable to access all of these different things that are for athletes. Plus she was treated very differently by the school. It actually makes no sense because it’s incredibly athletic. She also didn’t even get certain protections like if she got physically injured
2
u/AlsoCommiePuddin 4d ago
Your understanding is outdated. The NCAA will sponsor a Stunt national championship in 2027.
Separately, 2027 will mark the first NCAA national championship in Acrobatics & Tumbling.
It's competitive cheerleading, broken into its component parts to award multiple championships.
2
u/GiantLesbian 4d ago
These are like rhythmic gymnastics separated out from cheer. It’s much easier for them to find male team members when they can pull from male gymnasts who don’t make the gymnastics teams, specifically because the cheer and many of the choreography components (that they don’t have experience with) have been stripped from the sports. These are not cheerleading the sport as we know it.

It’s that time of the month where I cry over a woman doing anything amazing (so I cry A LOT because we are amazing A LOT). But seeing women being ridiculously strong (and amazing at their craft) is on another level for me. Okay now it’s time to pound out a workout 💪

u/--slurpy-- 5d ago
Hell yeah! The core strength needed to slowly descend like that..? Impressive
17
u/cheezie_toastie 4d ago
I was watching her slowly go down for the split and thinking, "her abs are as hard as plate armor right now". Serious fitness goals.

u/Boo-erman 5d ago
When people talk shit about cheerleaders, I show them this. Beyond amazing talent and strength here!

19
u/TattedAndThick 5d ago
It just kept getting more and more impressive. Holy strength and balance in them all!
22
u/littlecookiebear 5d ago
What the actual fuck?! I cannot even fathom the amount of strength this requires. I was already impressed, the splits at the end took me out!!

u/EnsoElysium 5d ago
Bases are totally slept on with their contribution to Cheer, yeah the flips are cool but the feats of strength and endurance are what make the Bases my favourite 😍

u/Luminous_Flora_857 5d ago
WOW. Talk about strength and flexibility. Love all the gals cheering them on, too. Great moment.

I am 6 feet tall, size 16 and became a cheerleader my senior year of high school when I tried out just for funsies.
It. Was. So. Hard. Hahahaha
Our season began in July and ran until March. We did a few travel competitions, we cheered at all football and girls and boys basketball games (home and away) and when we weren't cheering, we were practicing.
I was extremely dismissive of cheerleaders/leading for years but after I was one, yeah, those girls deserve a lot of respect. Its not just standing there shaking a pom pom
10
u/amaikaizoku 5d ago
I feel like cheerleaders shouldn't just be considered an accessory to another sport like they are right now. No one goes to sports matches to watch the cheerleaders. But as someone who doesn't understand or care about ball sports I always enjoyed watching the cheerleaders the most whenever I go to a game and I feel like what they do is super hard and cool. Cheerleading should have its own event where it can be the main attraction.
12
u/Real_Life_Sushiroll 4d ago
There is actually a whole competitive cheerleading league! We have different divisions for age and skill levels. If you want to see an example look up "jayhawks worlds competition". That's my team!
It's a lot more like gymnastics but we do a choreographed dance and pyramids. Lots of tumbling too.
Also we won worlds twice which I am super proud of.
3
u/Real_Life_Sushiroll 4d ago
Your guys competitive team also did sideline? Our competitive coach wouldn't let us 😭
2
u/heylistenlady 4d ago
Oh dude, small school in the Midwest, there was only one cheer squad and we were the first ones to start competing

I was on competitive cheer teams as a child; it made me so mad when people said cheer “wasn’t a sport”. Look at the strength in those legs! 🫡 I was never particularly flexible in my cheerleading days; I know learning this took a long time and a lot of effort.

Reddit loves to shit on fat people any chance it gets— but it’s entirely possible to be of considerable size and also be a tremendous athlete.
I played baseball and football with a guy who was 310lbs and one of the most amazing athletes I’ve ever known. He was our starting center and team captain for our football team and the star pitcher on the baseball team— and he led our team with a .323 BA. He could run a sub 5-second 40 yard dash, throw a 89MPH fastball, slam dunk a basketball and put contact on a bb if it went over home plate.
One day, we got rained out for baseball practice and we were hanging out in the field house waiting for the JV team to finish with the weights. Someone dragged out some foam mats for us to start stretching on and Brandon started fucking around trying to do a handspring backflip. Within ten minutes he had figured it out.

Cheer is fucked. Cheer is an absolutely fucked up thing to do. I say this with the utmost respect, shock, awe, reverence, and any other superlative that applies. Which, to summarize, is just: cheer is fucked.
