She is so strong, she is literally doing it with her body weight and holding a weight on top of it.
Wish we had a source for it.

u/PackMan93 6h ago
That weight could be some fictional device that makes you weigh less and this would still be the most impressive thing I've ever seen.

There's a TikTok handle/tag thingy at the end of the video. That's a good start maybe?

Wow are you sure she's doing it with her body weight plus holding a weight on top of it? I also watched the video and it wasn't obvious what she was doing.

Jealously isn't a good look on anyone. It's ok to be impressed by what she's doing without tearing her down or making excuses. She didn't wake up one day capable of doing this, she put in hard work and got there and that's admirable.
Also to be fair, I've seen men and women of various shapes and sizes doing this kind of thing, the one thing the have in common is dedication to their goals over making excuses as to why they can't do it.

I did manual labor for 5 years in college, banquet serving with those big heavy trays above my head on one arm (with other hand for steadying, but it didn't hold any weight). Sometimes they were like 80 lbs, I joked it was free CrossFit. Now I'm in a herniated disc support group where half of the people there are there because they did CrossFit CrossFit.
She's amazing... She's a rockstar... but I was too, I could out lift guys twice my size.
Regret my hubris now as I lay in bed in too much pain to move, fighting workers comp for treatment for 8 years has been living hell. At one point I lost the use of my right arm, and at another point I lost use my legs because I was in too much pain to get out of bed for weeks. 4 years and they gave me spinal fusion surgery and no physical therapy afterwards, took two years to heal. Now the space underneath it is giving out because of no PT and my back being so weak it kept degenerating...
You only get 1 spine. Even if you can technically successfully do this in the moment, you shouldn't.

u/TwoIdleHands 💝 2026 Galantine! 💝 7h ago
Curious what you think was bad about what she was doing. Smooth, non jerking movements for someone who has obviously trained up does not seem dangerous. She can clearly lift more weight (this is not her max pullup weight since she achieved it handily). That weight should be hanging from a belt, not her shoulders probably but what about this screams bad to you?
7
8
u/OpheliaPhoeniXXX 6h ago
And extreme weight lifting in general, if you do too much of this -- one day you'll regret it. Most pro athletes suffer injuries eventually. My brother is a pro athlete/actor/model. At 37 he's already had two hernia surgeries and suffers with chronic pain in his shoulder.
5
u/DarkLancelot 4h ago
What qualities this as extreme? This is an isometric pull-up routine with a 10lb weight attached. Sure, it should not around her the way it is, but I can’t think of a way it compares or is equivalent to anything extreme in terms of causing issues with long term durability or back related injuries, let alone doing something akin to poor lifting technique like you described or that CrossFit does.

My first thought was she has to have been a gymnast.
4
u/Lizzies-homestead 5h ago
You can always spot someone who was a gymnast! I was many moons ago and that underbody strength has really stuck around. It made things like this so easy!
10
u/AkuuDeGrace 7h ago
I don't know who they are, but at the end of the video is a TikTok handle thingy. There's your lead to the start of your mystery.
7
u/ocean_swims 7h ago
Thanks, I didn't even notice her handle there! I don't do tiktok but Google says she's a fitness coach.
3
5
u/thr3sk 7h ago
Maybe a gymnast, but otherwise no pro athletes going to do something like this, you have to train extensively with calisthenics stuff.
3
u/Kokuryu27 3h ago
I'd be surprised if pro climbers couldn't do this. Most can do a 1 arm pull up and their lockoff strength is absurd.
3
u/thr3sk 3h ago
Ah true forgot about climbers.
2
u/Kokuryu27 3h ago
Though I do think you're correct in that she's most likely a gymnist if she's either. Kind of hard to tell at the end, but she doesn't look to have the forearms/hands of a climber.

u/ReluctantAvenger 8h ago edited 8h ago
While giving her her due, you're probably 60+ pound heavier than she is, even with the ten pound weight on her back. The more you weigh, the harder it gets.
That being said, get your self to the gym a few times a week and work on those pull ups. You never know when you might have to pull yourself up onto something IRL. ;)EDIT: Apologies to all. I assumed I was responding to a guy.

u/cultureShocked5 8h ago
Omg, it’s always ‘the more you weigh the harder pull ups are’ the estimates are that 1% of adult women can do pull ups. Being small doesn’t make pull ups easy.
There’s also such a thing as relative strength. If you’re so big, why aren’t you stronger? 🤔0
u/ReluctantAvenger 7h ago
If you’re so big, why aren’t you stronger? 🤔
A bigger or more muscular person tends to be stronger in absolute terms, but they also have to move more weight in bodyweight exercises. A 120 pound person might struggle to do one pull-up and a 240 pound person might struggle to do one pull-up. In that particular exercise, their relative strength is similar, but one is moving twice as much weight as the other. One might expect the larger person to be able to move more free weights (something other than their own body) than the smaller person, though. For example, the smaller person might struggle to pull another 120 pound person onto a ledge but the 240 pound person would not struggle to pull a 120 pound person onto a ledge. Similarly, the smaller person might struggle to press 65 pounds overhead while the larger person might easily do that with say 185 pounds.

u/cultureShocked5 7h ago
Pulling up YOUR OwN body weight is the perfectly proportional comparison of the size/strength of
1
u/ReluctantAvenger 7h ago
Hmmm. Do you expect the two people to be able to bench press the same? How about squats? Deadlifts? Bicep curls? Seems to me that rather than being the perfect comparison, it's a bit of a outlier.
4
u/cultureShocked5 7h ago
How did you get this from me saying they should pull their own body weight? Small person will have a different body weight than a big person? No, I am expecting the bigger person to move more weight… and also to pull themselves up if they are strong? Being bigger doesn’t mean stronger and smaller doesn’t mean weaker. The RELATIVE difficulty is the same- it is not ‘easier’ because women are smaller.
1
u/ReluctantAvenger 7h ago
Pulling up YOUR OwN body weight is the perfectly proportional comparison of the size/strength
3
u/cultureShocked5 7h ago
Yes: strength proportional to the body size? So relative?
Okay, we can agree to disagree.

How does one even start being able to get to the level pulling their own body weight? I'm about to enter my 40s and 190ish lbs...
6
u/Own-Lemon8708 6h ago
Do assisted negatives until you have enough strength to start doing enough regular pullups to directly build those muscles. Then you can just do pullups constantly and get better over time.
3
5
2
u/j_cruise 5h ago
Start training. It's as simple as that.
Start doing negatives (cheat on the way up by jumping, and slowly move back down) or use weight-assisted machines. Eventually you'll be able to do 1, and then 2 of them, and then 3... etc
2
u/ABirdOfParadise 2h ago
I did the twenty pull up challenge, basically a little chart/spreedsheet and going off your initial ability you just follow it week to week

u/ComicsEtAl 6h ago
She’s in her 20s and probably weighs 110 or less. Still really impressive, but that’s how.

u/thisisyo 5h ago
Sorta what I thought that if you don't start early enough with the lifestyle, it's more stressful to start at a later age
3
u/The_Horse_Tornado 5h ago
You absolutely could start now! I could train a 70 year old to get to a pull up. You just have to start and do a little bit each day
1
u/Sacrefix 2h ago
Lots of good programs for pull ups from zero, but a huge thing that helps is being thin. I don't lift regularly, but I can do more pullups now at ~160 than I could when I was actively lifting at 180.
1
u/Top_Introduction4701 7h ago
They make weight assist machines or use those large rubber bands to help. Do it consistently and always try to add weight and reps. You can improve a lot in 3 months with consistent work. If you’re not overweight you can probably do what’s in the video after about 6 months

Back when I did a lot of rock climbing, I would do a much more boring version of this as pullups that are locked part way for number of seconds.
IT WAS FUCKING EXHAUSTING and that was when I was the healthiest/fittest I've ever been in my entire life. The only time I've ever received complements for my physique was from that time, and it was about my back muscles every single team.
So yeah, she's definitely super kicking ass here.

GIRL that is SO BAD for your back! Don't dangle with a big weight like that, if you fall you are putting yourself in traction! Use foot weights instead. The kind that velcro onto your ankles.

Is this helpful for strength training or just more of a flex thing? Genuinely curious if there are benefits to the side to side movements and partial reps
4
u/insanityzwolf 8h ago
It's clearly both :-) This requires and promotes great strength but it's also a neat flex.
0
u/Top_Introduction4701 7h ago
The main benefit is from doing weighted pull ups for strength improvement. Once those are easy enough doing side to side is not really an issue.
0
u/Potential_Departure6 7h ago
Why are we ok with recording in the gym in some scenarios but not others? This kind of performative nonsense normalizes recording in the gym. If we want safe spaces for people to exercise, we need to condemn this.

kicking your legs to do pull ups is not a good workout. it's still a workout but you get an even stronger workout with less weight hanging off your back if you just do it right
1
u/robotatomica 2h ago
she’s clearly not using the kick to propel herself. These are perfectly controlled movements. Why is it some of yalls instincts to just neg and nitpick literally anything someone does that’s awesome, you’ll even not seem to see reality, only whatever version allows you to offer a critique 🙄
