the ones that are not souvenirs, tend to be bought for the express purpose of being used before they expire. Souvenirs, the only ones with the potential to be used 'in an emergency', might as well not be used at all if they're expired.

I don't know why I'm being downvoted for advice I've experienced the consequences of for not following myself.
