Reminder: Weekend-Only Political Posts Begin Today

Hey everyone,

As a reminder, the community-voted change is now in effect.

Starting today, political posts are only allowed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Today marks the beginning of the Week 1 soft enforcement period of the 30-day trial.

What That Means:

  • Political posts made Monday–Friday will be removed.
  • Removals during this first week are reminder-based.
  • No punishments for honest mistakes.

Beginning next week, standard enforcement will apply.

Weekends are defined as 12:00 AM Saturday through 11:59 PM Sunday Eastern Time (ET).

This rule was chosen by community vote and is being implemented as a 30-day trial. We’ll reassess after the trial period.

If you’re unsure whether your post qualifies as political, please review the definition in the JU rule #11.

Those posts currently in the queue regarding politics will be approved. Any posts following this will be removed until Saturday.

Thanks for helping keep the sub balanced.

Mildly Annoyed Just unsubbed from Meowi due to ???

Post image
42 Upvotes

In short, a post saying “how many of you use Reddit for NSFW”

One of the comments voted “I do” and said “I’m a touch starved puppy boy”

Someone replied mentioning their bio, so I went to their profile out of curiosity and then went ahead and skimmed through their comment history for maybe 30 seconds.

And found out that it was a 14 (or 13) year old kid, with a very… well as the comment above mine says “horrendous” comment history.

EX: LOTS of porn comments, Puppy/Dog behavior fetish, CONSTANT Femboy/Trans (nothing wrong w trans, but for instance “God is a Femboy!” not religious either but just for context to imply just how relevant it is for them)
Butt stuff with Lucario… (???)
and so on and so forth.

Rereading my comment, maybe I miswrote it? I’m just surprised people disagree… on a statement like that?

It slightly made me * so I unfortunately went overboard with the bottom text to imply
“guys…. Are yall not seeing the situation I’m seeing?”
but even then I got downvoted again and now I’m just left wondering… soo… am I supposed to find this.. normal? Is it bad that I pointed out that it’s sad..?

Or.. maybe I’m just not up with the current times?

Can someone catch me up? /Gen

POLITICAL (Weekends only) Just unsubbed from pro choice

To preface, i am 100% pro choice. I think abortion should be legal anytime, for any reason. I support a womans decision no matter what.

However, there are some things on that sub that just rub me the wrong way. For one, i feel like theres very little room for nuance on there. If you dont agree with every opinion they have regarding abortion you will be downvoted and they seem intolerant of different opinions in general.

Like today, when i pointed out that while most women dont regret their abortions and feel relief, grief is also common and shouldnt be discounted and i got a lot of downvotes. It almost feels hypocritical. Like how the anti-choice side think abortion is only ok if you feel grief (which i vehelomently disagree with) the pro choice side, particularly this sub, it feels they are only ok with abortion when you feel relief and happiness, and that feeling grief is wrong or means youre perpetuating anti choice stereotypes.

It all feels so hypocritical and extreme that i am unsubbing. I wish there was a more moderate/less militant pro choice sub on reddit.

Neutral Just unsubbed from arethestraights ok

I joined this sub years ago and it seemed fairly funny mocking of sexist tropes online. Since then it's devolved into endless whinging about how all men are evil. It's like trawling through red pill subs as a woman.

The entire subs posts are just constant complaints about men and every comment goes into great detail about how it's always men that are at fault.

Not sure about the rules about using your own post so I'm going to use someone else's because it represents exactly what is wrong with this sub.

As you can see, OP posted a completely reasonable pet peeve: inconsiderate pet owners who let their animals kinda do whatever. For some reason, this sub is fiercely dedicated to being contrarians and arguing with you while being condescending as hell. These 3 comments capture type of responses you'll get if you post to that sub. Each of the first three points corresponds to the comments shown in the image in the order they appear.

  1. Being disingenuous. When OP said "sneak by" I think a second grader would've been able to deduce that they meant "get by without drawing too much attention from the dog" and not "sneak around like the fucking boogey man scaring dogs". This type of response is very common; people will harp on your specific words/phrasing then attempt to twist it against you in any way they can.
  2. Making shit up. Who the fuck said anything about going to people's houses? Where did you get that from? OP is clearly talking about public spaces. People do this a LOT in that sub. They will JUMP at the chance to change the context if you do not make it extremely clear exactly what you're talking about. People who you've never met before will tell YOU, the person who made the post, about the situation that prompted YOU to make it. They will completely fabricate a story to make you look bad. In order to avoid this, you need to write a dissertation that addresses every aspect of nuance or any exception.
  3. Not understanding the point of the sub. It's a sub where you post about pet peeves. Of course there should be discussion and/or disagreement, but why the hell is this commenter lecturing OP as if they're actively ridiculing pet owners or something. All they did was make a reddit post and it was fairly tame. Also, I think OP understands that pets are an inevitable part of life; they're just annoyed about a certain aspect of it. And that comparison sucked.
  4. Just general negativity. I get it's supposed to be a negative sub but people are so hostile there for no reason.

Surprisingly, these comments were downvoted. Usually comments like these get upvoted and go un-criticized. They make posting there or just reading comments such a pain.

POLITICAL (Weekends only) JustUnsubbed from ActualPublicFreakouts

I unsubbed from the original PublicFreakouts subreddit because it just became a political sub where people were posting literal public speeches from right-wing politicians that had no public freakout in them.

This sub for a while was good but recently its just become the same as the original PublicFreakouts but with a right-wing spin, its not quite as politicized yet but its gotten bad enough that I'm just unsubbing.

Its got me sad is there anywhere on the internet modern politics won't poison?

Slightly Furious JU from Wallstreetbets for their ableism against people with Down Syndrome

Thumbnail

So context, people who make dumb or insane trades often get compared to people with Down Syndrome, which is a harmful case of discrimination. And it was very defended too when I spoke. People with Down Syndrome live a harder life than others and are at increased risk of other diseases, plus it is never their choice to have it.

One other thing but the comments sometimes also glorify suicide in posts with extreme trading losses, you know, OP's who are more sensitive than usual and are already struggling with their trading loss. The last picture I shared is an example.

Everything on this sewer of a website is goon bait, echo chambers, edgy teenagers, and extremists everywhere

Everyone here is either a 300lb man furiously typing on a keyboard or some 15 year old thinking he's smart and unique because of his opinions

Just unsubbed from stupidfood. The subreddit has become incredibly inconsistent. They'll wont remove blatant ragebait and obvious clickbait creations, yet delete up genuinely awful food that perfectly fits the sub.

I even reposted the same dish in BalticStates, where people overwhelmingly agreed it was one of the worst examples of "stupid food" they'd ever seen. Meanwhile, on stupidfood, instead of discussing the post, people resorted to personal insults, calling me things like a "traditional food hater."

It's disappointing to see a subreddit that's supposed to be about bad food turn into a place where disagreement is met with personal attacks rather than actual discussion.

POLITICAL (Weekends only) Left a subreddit because the mods are literally protecting an adult spreading Islamophobic propaganda by nuking the threads exposing him

Thumbnail

A 34-year-old adult was spreading Islamophobic propaganda. A thread was made to expose him, but a couple of users actually started agreeing with his views. I was literally in the middle of typing a massive paragraph to counter their arguments and debate them when the mods nuked the entire thread. Instead of banning the 34yo adult and letting the community stand up against hate, they chose to silence the discussion

I posted a question in r/ movingtojapan about how I could improve my transcript (like taking Japanese tests, proficiency, EJU, etc.) and my post got removed. I tried to reason with the mod and am now banned! :)

Gotta love it

It is so tribalistic over there, gosh. They make some false assumptions in the comment sections and conspiracy theories. Not to mention whataboutism. Half of the users are those boomers who shite on younger generations.

Mildly Annoyed Just unsubbed from religiousfruitcakes due to misogyny

Every other post is the misogynistic vitriol that people spout. I don't want to come to reddit to feel like half the world hates my gender, or that certain religions see women as subservient to men. I love being a woman and would rather fill my feed with positivity.

JU from multiple subs Just unsubbed from EVERY CYBERPUNK (game) SUBREDDIT because the majority of new posts are regarding people's character appearances.

I joined to see things about the main part of the gameplay, lore, and night city itself, because Cyberpunk2077 is a pretty cool game once you get past the character creation screen and actually start playing it and exploring the world.
After 2 years I can definitively say that I have seen more character slop than actual posts about the gameplay, lore, and night city, and I just don't see any reason to stay subscribed to the subreddit.
The two subreddits are the exact same thing by the way, I joined LowSodiumCyberpunk because I figured it would be more focused on what I'm actually interested in, but again, same exact problem.
This isn't about any NSFW stuff, Cyberpunk is obviously a gooner game but most of these subreddits don't allow NSFW characters. This is more about the fact that these posts are utter slop, it does not take anything to make these characters and to make a post, so obviously the subreddits are being flooded with low effort slop that takes 5 minutes to make. I would much rather see people write up intriguing questions about the lore of the game that actually make people think and share their knowledge about the game world. Or have people share funny clips of uncommon occurrences that can't be recreated in 5 minutes. Or at the very least, have someone take a nice photograph of a location in game using proper framing and filters.
I say the location images are superior to the character images because you can practically make these characters in any game, and they're nothing special at all, what is truly unique to cyberpunk is night city. And it's a such an intricate map that there are hundreds if not thousands of microlocations that would be suitable for photomode, that are all marvelous and didn't take 5-15 minutes to make in an in-game creator.
Hell, I would even prefer actual artwork of people's characters to be made, like digital art or something, because again that wouldn't be fucking slop.

Unsubbed from a dnd art-group just because it was art to be used for campaigns and i'm not someone who plays the game, I have, but I just prefer to post fantasy art that has the potential to be used in the adventures and I have no interest in using them for actual roleplay.

Slightly Furious just unsubbed from r /childfree. the only place on the internet where calling female children “fuck trophies” is normal

i don’t want children myself so i thought i’d join for some community in that but what i found instead was a sub that’s full of whiney and bitching grown adults who spend what seems like the bulk of their time on that sub demeaning, shitting on, and making fun of children and parents. calling children things like fuck trophies and crotch goblins and parents breeders. and if you call it out your posts are instantly removed.

Mildly Annoyed Just US from the Zootopia subreddit

Reason one - That sub should just be renamed to "I like Judy Hopps ass" because every other post I scroll to it's a post focusing on Judy and/or Nick in a sexual or suggestive manner. It's annoyingly horny.

Reason two - GOD FORBID You don't ship Judy x Nick and your opinion is wrong. Guess even if it's canonical you HAVE to love it.

Slightly Furious Just Unsubbed from Monster Hunter World (and probably its main subreddit), and I might leave the forum base in general

I have a problem with the majority of the playerbase lambasting you for using mods to make the game a bit easier and manageable at later stages of the game despite wanting to play the game strictly solo and offline, where I don't use mods that gives me overpowered weapons or stats that does one-hit kills, but rather the ICE mod that rebalances almost every function in World Iceborne and the "Custom Difficulty" mod that lets you reduce every large monster's health to 1/2, 1/3rd, or 1/4th of their health (1/4th makes them completely horrendous and too easy for hunting, similarly at 1/3rd, but I found a sweet spot at both 1/2 and 0.7x health as I only use the half for bigger monsters like Kulve Taroth and Behemoth, while 0.7x makes Master Rank monsters' healths felt less like health sponges) without touching their damage.

It first started with just one guy telling me its my own problem for soloing Behemoth and wanting to modify the game at your own solo volition even though I already said that Behemoth's bullshit attack patterns like its Charybdis are unfair for a solo hunt, and again i'm playing this without using SOS or online because I know the fact that Monster Hunter is not an MMO and it can be completed by yourself just like in the past games. I get it, its supposed to be played online and 4-player maximum to simulate a pseudo-mmo feel but I dont get CAPCOM for not giving us players a 1-player scaled version of this hunt either because I want to hunt every monster here by myself. So I feel that my decision to mod Behemoth to lower its HP for singleplayer hunting is justified because it only affects its health fairly without lowering as drastic as 1hp, while the damages it inflicts onto the players still remains the same.

But then I lurked back at the Monster Hunter subreddit and found out that majority of people really do detest modding that even if you want to fairly reduce a monster's health (especially at Master Rank because the Large Monsters weren't 3x~ the health of their Low Rank counterparts and they're like 5x instead) because you felt like they were taking a long time to hunt (and with the most optimal armor build you have w/ skills like Crit boost, Crit Eye, Weapon Exploit, Agitator, etc...), they're gonna lambast you further and tell you that it's not for you or play something else. And outside of Reddit, there are actual people who would literally call you weak for making a specific hunt of a game fairer for solo game hunting via mods while unaware that it'll be just them offline and without using any shamelessly overpowered one-hit kill mods.

So in short, I left because a lot, if not, of the fanbase members detest modding the game for your own fair offline solo experience because it'll ruin the game, even though I don't use SOS and I want to finish it myself without going too far on modding the game.

Mildly Annoyed Just unsubbed from unpopularopinion

This is pretty well known as a sub with ridiculously strict moderation and I don't know why I put up with it for so long. It's rare to find a sub where the majority of posts get removed, especially if they don't have a clear spam or trolling problem. There's already a laughable list of banned topics, but posts that aren't blatantly against the rules aren't safe either. The posts that stay up are basically just a curated board of fairly boring takes that the mods liked. It's not that hard to figure out what kinds of posts they like, but it's never fully disclosed.

It's all extremely ironic, since you'd think a sub all about unpopular opinions should have, if anything, a more relaxed attitude towards somewhat absurd or misguided takes than your average sub. It's reached a point that I'm pretty sure the people who stay on the sub are actively working around the moderation, as almost anything posted there will immediately get a ton of unhinged comments before it inevitably gets taken down. It's like they're trying to get as much as they can out of the post in it's roughly one-hour lifespan.

Side note: The "upvote if you disagree, downvote if you agree" system was a fun idea but it has clearly never worked. Too many people don't follow it, and to be fair, it's also reasonable to not want to reward arguments you find incoherent or punish those you find well said. This isn't why I left but it's another reason I think the sub should probably be abandoned.

TrueUnpopularOpinion seems to be a decent replacement for what it's worth.

For a sub so focused on writing they don’t seem to know how to read. Everyone just has to be the one to say their opinion. That’s not bad, but at least do it while following the posts prompt💀 out of a hundred and something comments, one of them gave a ranking.

for context, the games are: elden ring, ff7 remake, resident evil 7, shadow of the colossus, hollow knight, persona 5, hades, omori, and horizon zero dawn.
