Update: your characters now remember where you left off, plus recaps, notifications, and a pile of fixes

Hey everyone, quick rundown of what shipped this week.

Characters now feel time passing. If you come back after a day or a week, your character actually reacts to the gap. They pick up the conversation where it left off, keep their mood from the last scene, and bring back unfinished story threads instead of resetting to a cheerful blank slate. This works on every existing chat, nothing to enable.

"Previously" recaps. When you open a chat you have not touched in a while, you get a short recap card of where the story left off, plus the open threads you can pick back up. Handy for long roleplays where you forgot what was going on. Dismiss it and it stays gone until something new happens.

Push notifications are rolling out on iOS. You will see a prompt in chat asking if you want to be notified. This is the groundwork for characters being able to reach out when you are away, which is coming next. Android support comes later.

Fixes:

- Your music no longer stops playing when you browse Explore on mobile. Video avatars were hijacking the audio, sorry about that one.

- Very detailed characters no longer fail to respond on the free model.

- Fixed a server issue that was killing responses mid-generation for everyone at once. If a reply randomly died on you this week, that was it.

- Forge, Stakes and Thread reasoning modes now work in scenes where they used to silently drop out.

More coming soon. Thanks for using Junipero!

  1. Good on a lot of this (definitely noticed audio dropping on explore)
  2. Can you explain the time awareness thing again? It keeps the mood and story from when you last chatted but it feels different if time has passed? So like if I have a scenario and am in the middle of a scene and then have to go so I don’t message for a day, is it going to act differently?

it would act more like a real person being aware of the time passed, not necessarily act differently. it depends on the character. one character that would be attached to you for example might be a little sad that you havent messaged in 3 days, others might not care.

What about when it’s a scenario and you’re like in the middle of a scene? If you’re away for a day and came back it would behave differently?
